I sign this petition with my whole heart because the Opry was never meant to be a place to show off the selling artists. It was meant to be a get together spot for everyone to come and play on Saturday Night.
Not only do I sign this petition on behalf of the Legends of Country, I sign it on behalf of the Legendary Ghosts of Opry past who would be ashamed of the way things are run today. Even CMT is now a joke! Mr. Acuff I wish you were here because the Opry's changed a lot in the last 20 years and not for the better.
The Opry already has a death rattle, don't shut off the oxygen. Without the few legends, country music has been banned from the Opry; although we have a very few young singers who still sing country. Without them there would be no lifeline.
If artists over 65 not can be acepted, there would not be honest country music. As older the violin, as smoother music... Traditional country is the native Americans heritage, prepare, protect even fight with claws and nail to keep it healthy, it really deserves attention. From Country Music DJ Dann Hansen, Denmark
if this ever happend it would end the opry the reson we go to the opry is to see all the generations from 9-109 then u end the opry and tourism dies in nashville
The Opry is hardly worth listening to anymore, if you can even find it on TV. It's all Country Rock. Let's mix in a little entertainment for everyone, after all, we older fans have been supporters for years.
i allways wanted to take my wife and family to nasville and be able to sing one or two songs on the stage at the old oprea.......i support your petition!
Tandy you don't have to worry about being a FOOL.
You're an idiot.
Its the older singers that created the opry for country music not for this For lack of a better title ) rock n roll you want to force on us now.
George said it all with "who,s gonna fill there shoe,s"an Mr. Jackson tried to tell you to. with "murder on music row" but Nashville ain,t hearing them.Clean-out your ear,s boy,s there ain,t many of the great ones left
If it wasn't for the country singers of days gone by, there would be no country music today.
Keep the legends on stage as long as they want.

its the legends of country music that made country music what it is. it sure aint country music today thats for sure. lets keep the legends in country music.
because most of today's singers are not singing country music. I don't know what to call it but is not country music. When I get into my car I always listen to the Sirus Satellite Radio Roadhouse Station because it is pure country music. I don't even watch the Grand Ole Opry unless some of the Legends are going to be on it. All I hear the new artist do is holler and yell and act stupid by breaking gituars and foolish stuff like that. The young teens and young adults of today watch this behavior and thinks that is the way you should act, the artist of today should look at what these young people are learning from their behavior on stage. It seems to me that as long as the Legends are wanting to and able to sing then it should be up to them if they want to retire or not. If it were not for artist like Porter,Bill Monroe,Grandpa Jones, Kitty Wells and others there wouldn't be a Grand Ole Opry. Artists like Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and all the others in that group, that call what they sing country music should find a diffenet place to sing their music because it sure isn't suited for the Grand Ole Opry. I would still pay $25-$35 dollars to go see a show by Porter. I wouldn't pay a nickel to see artist like Garth, Trisha, Faith and all the others.
I cannot believe that anyone would just assume that the classic country fans would not want to hear the legends in country music sing again after they are 65. Shame on you tandy Rice. I don't know how old you are but I will tell you something, it is the legends in country music who made Nashville what it is today, the home of country music, and that was classic country music, thank you very much.
Even the suggestion of putting the Legends out is a nightmare. I was lost in the sixties but found these guys in the mid seventies. These people are like gods to the Country Music world. If you let them go you lose your true foundation.... and standing on empty soil, you have but one place to go (in case you can't figure it out - it's under - way under) Do not do this. It is wrong.
I support this petition because the Opry is the Legends. I can't believe Tandy Rice would even suggest such a thing. After all he ain't no spring chicken. Every time we watch the Opry, and there is no George Jones, Jimmy Dickens, etc. my hubby says who is that. They sure can't sing or that's not country music. I think the Opry would would not exist if there wasn't the Legends. I know my hubby and I sure wouldn't care about it. I say Tandy Rice needs to retire!!!! or just get out of Nashville!!!!
because the are the backbone of Country. Who does this Mr. Rice think he is.????? He does not have a clue on what country is really is. Yes there are younger superstars but a lot of them are not country they are Pop. I want my country back to the way it used to be THAT IS THE LEGENDS and keep them right where they are you don't like it Mr. Rice then don't watch it on TV or go to the Grand Old Opry. We don't want you there. Yes there was a murder on music row.
Mr. Rice obviously doen't have A clue about country music let alone the tradional country music. Who does Mr.Rice think he is to even vocalize a thought such as this. I have grown up on ALL of country music artists from Lefty Frizzell, Bob Wills, Hank William, Kitty Wells, George Jones, Merle Haggard & Connie Smith as well as todays Country music singers. My kids have grown up on the same & are still teenagers. They LOVE the traditional stuff. People DO go to the Opry to see just these people not only the new & hip artists. Go back into & burrow your head back into the ground Mr. Rice.
Leave the greats alone. They travelled the two laners across the country to build this industry. Go find another cause I'm sure there's more to worry about than this.
Who does she think made it what it is today! I would spend good money to see Loretta or George any day and so would my kids. She needs to keep her mouth shut!!!!
Does the Opry own the arstists ? The individual should be able to call it QUITS ! WHENEVER, THEY want to !! AGE has Nothing to do with it ! The Opry should be GREATFUL to still have them on their show !!!!!!!
Mr. Tandy apparently doesn't understand that the Grand Ole Opry was never created to fill seats. It was created as a place for people to all come together and sing on Friday and Saturday Nights. It's people like Mr. Tandy who need to stand Trial for killing country music!
I think Tandy Rice should retire (asap)If it wasn't for the old acts I wouldn't watch The Grand Ole Opry. The new stuff sucks, it's rock n roll reject as far as i'm concerned. I can't stand to hear it. I'll stick with my old CDs when country music was country music. Thanks!
NO WAY! If not for our older country artists, there would be no Opry as the newer and younger acts are to busy with full tour schedule to fulfill all duties of the Opry! This would be soooooooo wrong!
If they don't play this music then I don't guess that I will listen to it anymore
unless I listen to my records, I believe that It would be just auful to force them out.
I support the Golden Voices of REAL country music. I think those who do not should think long and hard about WHO GOT THEM WHERE THEY ARE TODAY. Larry Cordel and Larry Shell said it best... Nobody saw him running from sixteenth avenue.
They never found the fingerprint or the weapon that was used.
But someone killed country music, cut out its heart and soul.
They got away with murder down on music row.
The almighty dollar and the lust for worldwide fame
Slowly killed tradition and for that someone should hang
(oh, you tell them Alan).
They all say not guilty, but the evidence will show
That murder was committed down on music row.
Chorus:
For the steel guitars no longer cry and fiddles barely play,
But drums and rock 'n roll guitars are mixed right up in your
face.
Old Hank wouldn't have a chance on today's radio
Since they committed murder down on music row.
They thought no one would miss it, once it was dead and gone
They said no one would buy them old drinking and cheating
songs (I'll still buy 'em)
Well there ain't no justice in it and the hard facts are cold
Murder's been committed down on music row.
Chorus:
Oh, the steel guitars no longer cry and you can't hear fiddles
play
With drums and rock 'n roll guitars mixed right up in your face
Why, the Hag, he wouldn't have a chance on today's radio
Since they committed murder down on music row
Why, they even tell the Possum to pack up and go back home
There's been an awful murder down on music row.
My name is Ron Crites I am 54 years old. I have been playing Country Music all of my life. I still would like to see all of the Legends stay. Thanks. www.roncrites.com
THE OLDER SINGERS VOICES MIGHT NOT BE AS
THEY ONCE WERE ,BUT IT THEY WILL ALWAYS BE MUSIC TO MY EARS,AND A JOY TO HEAR,AS LONG AS THEY WANT TO PERFORM,THEY ARE THE REAL GRAND OLE OPRY.
tell tandy rice to take a powder
i am quite sure that many, many of the young stars came about because of them following in there idols footsteps, the same as all sports
