Having a Walmart in Blacksburg is not necessary, especially when there is already one that is a short driving distance away from people who live in Blacksburg.
The traffic would be horrendous, especially in that particular area of town. To solve this, much more construction would be needed than the onerous amount that would already be present with a huge building and parking lot being created. This is a horrible idea.
Blacksburg is a beautiful city and walmart is just going to destroy local business and cause traffic issues. There is one in roanoake and I think that's good enough. Walmart, Stay out of Blacksburg, period!!!!!
Whenever Walmart comes to a town, most of the local businesses shut down; and this is the last thing Blacksburg needs. I love the small town feeling of Blacksburg, and I know others do too. Allowing Walmart to come here would destroy that completely. Plus, it's not a problem driving 10 minutes to the Christiansburg Walmart. Blacksburg is fine the way it is...plus Tech is already doing enough construction...we don't need more here.
Blacksburg is a uniquely beautiful town and community. With their large footprints, big box stores like WalMart tend to crush the beauty and identity of the surrounding areas where they build.
We DO NOT NEED or WANT another Wal-Mart. This is a residential and educational area and which it is our duty to keep safe and respectible for our children.
The current relationship with Christiansburg as the big box center and Blacksburg as the "Main Street" college town works well...why destroy it to build a business that serves the community well enough being 10 minutes away?
Walmart will ruin the small businesses in Blacksburg. Local businesses will disappear. There is already a Walmart in Christianburg and look what it did to that town, look at downtown Christianburg-there is nothing there. It's an estimated 15 minute drive to Walmart from Blacksburg, why do you want one closer? Do you want a Walmart in your backyard instead? Give me a break, leave Blacksburg alone! There used to be beautiful peach orchards and farms before Walmart took over in Christianburg, you can't get any of that back since you poured concrete over the earth and ruined it.
A Wal-Mart would ruin the whole setting and small-town personality of Blacksburg. Instead of trying to bring a giant corporation to Blacksburg we should be trying to find a solution to the horrible traffic problem, which would be made five times worse by building a Wal-Mart.
Walmart doesn't need another store. They don't need to barge in on smaller towns to make more oney. They already have enough. All that will happen is smaler, personal businesses will go out of business and the un-employeed percentage will rise. Walmart is unnecessary.
WalMart will crush this town and leave Main Street desolate. It represents everything that is wrong with the current state of this nation: greed at all costs, reckless disregard for human rights and the environment, and the disintegration of the true American Dream. Please do not let WalMart destroy our homes and our values.
If the town decided to bring a Walmart into Blacksburg, it will completely destroy the small businesses of downtown.
Not to mention there's already a Walmart in Christiansburg, is two so close really necessary?
We are a special town that should not give in to the excessive wastefulness of capitalism in America. We need to remain a unique town that opposes big coorperations that ruin local businesses. There is no need for this wal-mart.
Walmart and all the other large stores are 10min away in Christiansburg. Blacksburg needs to maintain its character and not be destroyed by big box stores
Blacksburg Is Unique, and I think it should stay that way and serve as an example for the rest of the state and not let it's charcater and culture be overtaken by suburban sprawl where everything is just alike.
DO we really want to turn into Christiansburg? That town sold itself for revenue from taxes and is now nothing more than a jumble of stoplights and 4 lane roads
