A megacenter with every imaginable consumer prized commercial item awaits but a skip away in Christiansburg. Big stores bring lots more. Resist the invasion! Viva la Blacksburg!
We talked about this issue in my Intro to Urban and Public issues class. Having a Wal-Mart in Blacksburg would do more harm than good, espec when there is a Wal-Mart already 10 min away.
Wal-Mart Is good for nothing... except for cheap. If we want Blacksburg to be a cheap town, than Wal-Mart is just the thing for it. But I believe Blacksburg should strive for class. Besides, is Christiansburg really that far?
The residents of Blacksburg prefer the small town personality of local business over the suburban facelessness that box stores propogate. Please keep box stores out of Blacksburg.
Don't let Wal-Mart or something like it come to Blacksburg. I grew up there, and its always nice to come home because there ARE no big box stores. Don't let the beauty of the town be damaged for money.
We do not need another Wal-Mart--big corporations are already pushing local businesses out. This is a horrible plan and will damage so many aspects of the Blacksburg community!!!!
I called Blacksburg my home for five wonderful years. I've been out of the area since 2004, but barely a day goes by when I don't miss the feel and beauty of Blacksburg everyday. It is a most splendid place and I fear for its (and its inhabitants) welfare if Wal-Mart is to get its greedy, soulless fingers on it. This must be prevented from happening!
I definitely do not support a Wal-mart in Blacksburg. The town cannot suport the traffic - it should never be placed that close to an elementary school. I don't want one in my town. I don't shop at the Cburg one and I won't shop at one in Bburg.
There are enough Wal-Marts in the world. It will bring unnecessary suburban sprawl and cause negative effects on the environment. Besides, there is one already a couple miles down the road. There is no reason to construct another one on the beautiful land that is in Blacksburg. Please, don't build another place that supports corporate takeover of our country. It already ruined the area near my hometown. Let's prevent this from happening.
I moved to Blacksburg to live in a community. Part of that is to take advantage of the local businesses that create a sense of place. For those who desire big box stores there are more than enough in Christiansburg.
With all of the retail stores and chain restaurants just 6 miles down the road in Christiansburg, a WalMart in Blacksburg would only accelerate the destruction of local business and remove any shred of uniqueness from our town.
There is no need for 2 Walmart locations with 10 miles with the population density of the area. The only time it gets overly crowded is when students are stocking up at the start of each semester. I don't feel this warrants another store.
Walmart would destroy the mom-and-pop integrity of local blacksburg shops and restaurants. IF you support walmart then its not an inconvenience to drive to C-burg.
Keep Blacksburg Wal-Mart free.
PLEASE keep these big stores out of Blacksburg! It will ruin a unique town. We should have boutique, local, mom and pop stores here. Leave the ugly stuff in C'burg on 460 where it is now.
I grew up in Blacksburg and my family has been there for 25 years, and Walmart goes against everything Blacksburg stands for. The one in Christiansburg is only 10 minutes away. No Walmart should ever be allowed in Blacksburg-- it will take away the beauty and peace of the town.
I am already upset enough about the 2 new parking garages and multistory consumer hubs that have gone up in the last couple of years. Blacksburg is a nice, small, comfortable town, and it should stay that way. The addition of large, hideously ugly buildings beyond what is already here is supremely undesirable.
