Christiansburg is 10 minutes away and if people can't handle that then they need to remind theirselves of their community. Walmart does not fit into Blacksburg's small, charming essence. Adding a retail giant like Walmart lessens Blacksburg's simple beauty.
christiansburg is close enough. blacksburg is not and will not ever be a commercial center, but it is exactly that which attracts people to this town and VT campus so if you can, please remember your values and that profit isnt one of them.
I've chosen to live in Blacksburg because it is not Christiansburg! I came from Northern Virginia to appreciate a small town where I could get a high-tech job. Keep the feel of the town! Keep the the small town stores in business!
we don't need two Wal-Marts withing a 10 mile radius (or however close that would be to the Christainsburg Wal-Mart). It is a hideous thought to have our town infiltrated by such a de-generative take-over giant.
We have a Wal-Mart less than 15 minutes away!! It will only take business and revenue opportunities away from Christiansburg and future Tech students will not know about what Christiansburg has to offer...
Ordinance 1450 is a great starting point for keeping the Blacksburg that we love, but the only real way to break down these big boxes is to practice what we preach and really support our local businesses as much as possible. If everyone shops local small business, then these places won't have customers, and won't exsist. We can do it! Shop local!!
