I fully support this petition. We must do everything we can to save what remains of Blacksburg's marvelous character and landscapes. I personally do not know a single person who wants another Christiansburg environment, nor aspires to Blacksburg as the next Charlotte.Charles Good
why do we need another one when it only takes 10 minutes to get from one side of blacksburg to another. there won't be enough profit to substantiate that buisness and it will only bring lower property values
For anyone who works in a local Blacksburg shop and doesn't support this: If Wal-Mart comes to town, I hope you look good in a blue vest- downtown B'burg will become a ghost town and Wal-Mart will be all there is.
As has been pointed out, we don't need another Wal-Mart in this area. Christiansburg is close enough. Also, the place where they want to put it is pretty cramped to be putting a super-center there. Also, I wouldn't want a Wal-Mart right behind an elementary school, for the sake of the safety of the children. I think the current buffer area between Beeks Elementary and Gable Shopping Center is a necessity for safety of the children and of the many vendors who deliver goods to the shopping center.
In addition to that, the traffic would also become horrible, as is the case at most Wal-Marts, which would result in putting yet another traffic signal on Country Club Drive, which would bottle-neck traffic even more. Blacksburg neither needs, nor wants, this.
