Blacksburg's charm is very much made up of its citizen's and its independent and local businesses. Blacksburg will suffer with the introduction of a big-box store. Part of the charm of the town will be lost, taking away what makes it one of the best places to live.
Blacksburg is a beautiful place and a Walmart or a Home Depot will surely destroy the hometown atmosphere. Small business and local shops are what make Blacksburg stand out above the rest. It is a great place for entrepeneurs to start a craft, trade, or business and a giant like Wal-mart would lessen their chances of success. They need community right now, not a Wal-mart.
Do you really want to destroy the town of Blacksburg? This would be the first step in it's destruction! If the town of Blacksburg decides it really does need a store such as Walmart, plese do NOT build any where near a school. That is only asking for trouble. Please don't do it!
Please do not allow Wal-Mart to dominate and destroy the Town of Blacksburg. Wal-Mart is notorious for killing local businesses, destroying local economies and exploiting its' employees. The Wal-Mart located in Christiansburg is sufficient to meet the needs of people in this area that support Wal-Mart despite its' destructive history. I have lived in Blacksburg my entire life and would be deeply saddened to watch Wal-Mart destroy what I know Blacksburg to be.
I strongly oppose the underhanded way this developer is attempting to slip a Wal-Mart (or other similar large store) into the town of Blacksburg. What other deceptive tactics will be used to push this project through? Newspaper ads? Threats to pull out the entire project? Wait, we have already seen both!
Even if it isn't a Walmart - large format stores like this would destroy the aesthetics of that neighborhood. It is baffling that the big-box proposal has gotten this far.
walmart kills towns,,,and it would ruin blacksburg's downtown charm. plus traffic would increase and corportate america would win,,,,,say no to walmart and stand up for our town!
Big box stores simply do not fit with the progressive Blacksburg community. Local control over development is essential to maintain the essence of our town. The thought of a Wal-Mart in Blacksburg is simply appalling.
The original site plan for the Blvds was wonderful! The last plan has MANY negatives. Town council needs to KEEP WATCH OVER UNETHICAL DEVELOPERS!!!!!!!!!
