We Call on the House of Representatives and the Senate to pass into law the Renewable Energy Bill for the sake of our environment and our country's future.

Why pass the Renewable Energy Bill NOW?

The bill, once passed into law, will accelerate the use of clean energy technologies (wind, solar, biomass, hydro and geothermal). The use of indigenous renewable resources reduces the reliance on imported fossil fuels, which makes us less vulnerable to fuel cost fluctuations in world market price.

Wind energy is the fastest growing power source in the world. With a 7,404 MW potential, there is no reason why the Philippines can’t be a world leader in wind power, similar to what it achieved with geothermal energy (where it currently ranks second in the world, next to the US).

Likewise, an agricultural country like the Philippines has tremendous untapped resources in biomass energy such as those from bagasse, a waste product of the sugar industry, rice hull and coconut shells, to name just a few.

Tapping indigenous renewable energy potential is not only good for the environment but makes economic sense as well. While capital investments tend to be high, renewable energy systems run on free and inexhaustible energy resources, making them cheaper in the long run.

The urgency of the bill to be passed as a law addresses our country’s issues on the threatened energy security, environmental degradation and rural poverty. REB (House Bill 1068) promotes the development, utilization and commercialization of renewable resources that will further

a) Accelerate the development of renewable energy resources to achieve energy self-reliance through the exploration, development and utilization of renewable energy resources such as, but not limited to, biomass, solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and ocean energy sources or hybrid systems.

b) Increase the utilization of renewable energy by institutionalizing its use, developing national and local capabilities in the use of renewable energy systems and promoting its efficient utilization and widespread commercial application by providing fiscal and non-fiscal incentives; and

c) Establish the necessary infrastructure to carry out the mandates specified in this Act and other existing laws.

Let the government know that we care about our environment and our economy's future!

Yes! let us go for renewable sources of energy to lower power rates and save the environment. Let us start with the many inactive hydrothermal and geothermal plants we have. It is put to waste.

because it is past time we develop more environment-friendly ways of obtaining energy. not only will we stop being dependent on other countries for energy, but we will be giving the next generations a better world.
