The serious breeders of pure bred dogs in this country are the very future of each breed's survival. These hobby breeders are the backbone of the breed, and it is their passion and unwavering dedication that keeps their breed's
standard onsistant over the years. It is for the sake of purebred dogs that I urge you support the AWA as it was previously written.
As a concerned citizen and voter, Please Do Not Pass This Bill. It will only hurt the quality of purebred dogs, because Puppy Millers will go underground and find a way around the law.
It will also hurt those who rescue the unwanted stray ones and make life better for them.
Congress needs to concentrate on commercial breeders and not pet/show/responsible breeders-Stop the importing of animlas from foreign countries!

This bill will hurt the hobby breeder and help create more of a demand from large commercial breeding operations, since there will be less healthy, quality puppies available for the general public.
This bill will only hurt the people who are doing things right and not really address problems for which there already plenty of laws. The main problem is enforcement of current legislation.
It is easy to forget that the USDA's primary concern is our FOOD! 'agri-terrorists' and BSE as well as other diseases and threats to our safety must take precidence. Homeland security extends to our dinner tables as well.
We do not need our tax dollars funding the 'puppy police'.
I am a hobby breeder and show breeder. This would seriously impact my breeding program and rights to do this. It will be a great loss to all if PETA gets away with getting this passed. Please do NOT pass this bill.
Erroneous animal rights being the concern..what about the rights of the American people...the voters, who will not forget the passing of such "rights" violation bills come election time!! This reaks of the fanatic PETA folks who revert to violent extreme methods to get their point across..even terroristic attacks on peoples lives!
This bill will have an eventual negative affect upon AKC registrations as well as upon many breeders.
Also, most areas only allow commercial businesses in appropriate zoning. Being considered "commercial" by the USDA will force many successful show breeders to move to a commercially zoned area, at great expense -- which is in line with the animal rights agenda of making it more and more expensive to own animals.
This bill discriminates unfairly against the hobby breeder who works to better the breed. Please do not pass this bill. This is exactly the type of regulation PETA wants.
As a breeder and dog show supporter, I find it abhorent that AKC is even considering supporting this. I know many toy breeders that this would affect badly.
There are many laws on the boks that are not enforceable on the exact people they are for. The only laws that work are the ones we have for ourselves. Ethics.

This legislation introduced by Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) called "Pet Animal Welfare Statute" of 2005 will put undue restrictions on hobby breeders such as myself. This is just the first step in the Animal Rights movement to severely restrict and eventually eliminate our rights to pet ownership.
On the surface, this bill sounds reasonable. However, when you factor in co-ownerships(common practice), small litters (2-3 pups per litter) or 3 large litters (11-13 pups per litter) you will see that even the most responsible, occasional breeder can fall under this regulatory control. This bill is a huge victory for PETA, HSUS and other such fanatical groups.
Also, this bill will do nothing to curb the abuses of puppy mills but instead will give them greater economic incentive by severly restricting the law-abiding, responsible breeder's ability to supply good quality, healthy puppies to the public.

In this proposal, the AKC has had the opportunity to make is opinion heard, albiet without the support or approval of its constituents, however NONE of the Cat Fancies were allowed a voice, eventhough this amendment will directly impact the breeders of pedigreed cats.
This amendment will only discourage people that work hard to improve their breed and provide wonderful, responsibly bred animals to private owners. I work with 2 breeds of cats, have 4 queens and 2 studs, all of whom live in my home and kittens are raised underfoot...am I now considered a kitten mill! This bill needs to be killed.
Please, let's get our priorities as Americans in line. The money spent funding and enforcing this ammendment could be channeled elsewhere to more "needy" causes. We have service men and women putting their lives on the line for us, we have people in American who do not have adequate health care, we have children starving in America--the list could go on and on. I would hope the legislaters I helped elect would devote their time and efforts to the "big" picture and not be swayed by special interest groups who have their own limited agenda. Thank you

I have been a breeder and exhibitor in the sport of dogs for over 30 yrs. I can not believe AKC is even considering this. This bill will support the agenda of the radical animal rights groups.

Currently we do not have knowledgeable people uphold the existing laws on a local level to begin requirements on a federal level for more unknowledgeable people to uphold poorly written laws left open to questionalbe interpetation.
This bill will require licensing of hobby breeders who raise puppies in their private homes, requiring USDA inspections which will take valuable resources away from the inspection of the large commercial kennels who sell puppies for resale and need inspections. It will also require rescuers to be licensed. These individuals will probably cease their rescue efforts, creating more animals entering shelters and being euthanized. It's a bad bill and should be killed.

Many people who raise dogs for profit, for whatever purposes..show or pets, competition, etc., are leftovers from the "family farm" tradition that built our nation. Our ancestors pioneered America, made America mighty with their sweat and blood, raised the crops and livestock that sustained our people and much of the world's hungry, and then dropped their plows, exchanged their cowboy boots for combat boots and went to war to defend our soils and our freedoms.
Many of us (dog breeders) have the blood of these ranchers and farmers calling out to us from distant years long past.
The small family farms today are rare...but in this day and in our way...we are providing for the people of our nation. We are providing good quality animals that give unconditional love to the unlovable (and the lovable), we are providing service dogs to help those who are disabled, we provide dogs for sport and hunting for America's recreation and competitive enjoyment, and for protection in an ever increasing hostile social environment. Never, in our history has so much money been spent on pets and their needs, as well as products for our pets.
A lot of revenue is exchanged...and taxed, by the folks who love and need their animals.
Please...once again...vote NO!

If enacted, this bill will decrease the number of well-bred pets, not increase it! It will also decrease the number of high-quality rescue groups, and thus, cause *more* euthanasia, not less!
I don't really know where you get off.Responsible breeders who have spent hundreds/thousands of dollars over the years trying to improve their breeds.Plus these dogs are also part of their family.If you pass this bill, you are doing an EXTREME injustice - you have your nose this time where it does not belong.
It disturbs me greatly that our legistlative body finds it acceptable to slowly...no, actually, very quickly errode the rights and priveledges of United States citizens because a few radicals think it is the right thing to do. Our country was founded to protect the rights and priveledges of the citizenry. Our troops have gone and continue to go to war to protect the rights of people around the world, yet, here in our own country, you our governing body continue to take, take, take them away. This bill is an example of the arrogance of the legistlative body who thinks they can a)govern morality and ethics by oversite and b)grossly and willingly misunderstand a given situation based on the inflammatory rhetoric of known radicals and terrorists. Do you not think for yoursleves? Where do you think the funding is going to come from to manage this beaurocratic nightmare should you be shortsighted enough to pass this bill?

I have family members who fought in wars to ensure our freedom and freedom of others and my own govt. is taking away my freedoms one by one. I can't believe AKC is endorsing this. While I may only have 1 litter or so a year, who has the right to tell me that I HAVE to allow USDA into my home? That my dogs, raised in the home, now have to be kenneled outside!!! That I have to go against my own beliefs and research and have surgeries done on my senior dogs in order to be able to keep them and let them finish their lives being couch potatoes and not chewed up by concrete and arthitis from being on that concrete!!! I can NOT believe AKC is doing this!!! What will happen if people start registering over in other registries that are fighting for the rights of their breeders? How many can AKC stand to loose honestly?
