This bill misses the animal mills. Those who are hobby breeders to include rabbit and poultry fanciers will be those that will hurt the most! Current laws and the AWA, if appropriately enforced, can meet the ends of animal rights activists. These bills are unnecessary, and only expands government.
Oppose this bill! Please do not support it. Responsible, ethical show breeders will be effected. We care for the dogs we produce, require spay or neuter as a mandatory for pet quality dogs, and show dogs are very well placed or kept and taken care of. This bill will only effect those of us who put forth effort to do things right, it will not effect the people who produce dogs for dollars or puppy mills. Those are the people you need to go after. Do not take away my rights as an American or my freedom of coice.

This is another example of people who don't know anything about the situation trying to pass laws that will actually hurt responsible breeders and help puppy mills.
I am a small ARBA breeder, and I feel that this could potentially harm the small breeder/showman while allowing the large scale mill to flourish as unregulated as before.
I as a breeder keep my dog in the house they sleep with me every night these dogs are loved very much this is not a puppy mill this will infringe on our rights as private citizen to own or sell dogs please stop this this bill
This bill will not slow puppy mills as they are already hitting the current volume to be licensed. Spend more on enforcing the law already on the books.
Please! RETHINK THIS!!!! This will only hurt the SERIOUS,CARING, breeders. These are the small timers that try to keep and improve the breed. This will be a bad can of worms!
Hobby breeders tend to do more environmental enrichment and are more attentive to the individual needs of their stock. Laws hampering the ability of small operations or hobby breeders only lends more leverage for corporations to take absolute control of the pet trade, offering a much less socialized and healthy pet.
AKC makes me feel like a criminal for showing and breeding dogs. I'm a small show breeder, not a commercial kennel. My dogs live in my home, sleep in my bed and have a name, not just a number. 75% of any profits I make goes right back into my dogs. I would spay/neuter my dogs, pull them from the shows and place them in homes before I would get a USDA license(livestock license). I think that most breeders would agree. It seems to me that this new law will only allow the puppy mills and pet stores to stay in business because those businesses will be the only breeders with the assets to afford the USDA license. They will not only survive but they will get stronger and bigger. What happens to the quality of purebred dogs then? I thought that was AKC was all about.
The AWA legislates commercial breeders. Adding small-scale and hobby breeders to this legislation takes money and resources...both of which are already in short supply. Government intrusion in private homes is unacceptable.
What possibly can AKC be thinking! The greatest joy is whelping our puppies in our homes and raising them with the family. The best puppies come from a home-raised enviremont.
I have been a dog show exhibitor for 30 yrs. Puppies need to be raised in the home with human contact. I love my puppies and need to hold and play with them. This law will destroy the right of Americans to have household pets.
The PAWS 2005 proposed legislation SB1139/HB2669 will harm private breeders whose puppies are well-socialized. It is the puppy mills that should be targeted.
This proposed legislation is severerly detrimental to those of us who breed and show pedigreed cats and dogs as a HOBBY. We raise our pets in our homes for socialization purposes, and I believe that the PAWS 2005 proposed bill SB1139/HB2669 would violate our Second Amendment rights.
TheDogPlace.com joins all groups and individuals who oppose ordinances or laws limiting our rights. The real motive is political and monetary - NOT about animals. Wake up people.
WOW akc is going to the dark side. I cant believe akc would even concider such a bill. Are they just trying to losse all of there akc supporters because i can see thats whats going to happen if they pass this bill theres other dog registerys out there. After all the fees we pay to akc to have akc registered dogs. This is nothing but another way for the goverment to squeeze more money out of us allready paying to much in taxes. What a joke.. Leave us small hobby breeders alone and go after the NASTY PUPPY MILLS AND PUPPY BROKERS.I WILL NOT ISOLATE MY DOGS THEY NEED TO BE SOCIALIZED AND AROUND PEOPLE ALL THE TIME.. THEY ARE NOT PROPERTY THEY ARE LIVING FEELING CREATURES WHO DESERVE THE BEST LIFE HAS TO OFFER FOR THEM. Think on that a bit (AKC) I think we the hobby breeders and show people out there should do what petition No# 1014 says leave akc for good.
IM SHOCKED I CAN NOT BELIEVE AKC WOULD GO ALONG WITH SUCH A BILL.AFTER ALL THE FEES WE THE HOBBY BREEDERS AND SHOW PEOPLE PAY TO AKC WE THE HOBBY BREEDERS KEEP YOU (AKC) ALIVE..I KNOW THAT IF THIS BILL PASSES MYSELF AND ALL THE HOBBY BREEDERS I KNOW WILL BE LEAVING AKC AND GOING TO A DIFFERENT DOG AND CAT REGISTERY..THIS BILL IS NOTHING BUT ANOTHER WAY FOR THE GOVERMENT TO GET AHOLD OF EVEN MORE MONEY THEN THEY ALLREADY DUE FROM US TAX PAYERS.THEY NEED TO GO AFTER THE HORRIBLE PUPPY MILLS AND PUPPY BROKERS NOT US SMALL HOBBY BREEDERS THAT LOVE AND TREAT OUR DOGS AND CATS LIKE PART OF THE FAMILY.. NOBODY INCLUDING THE GOVERMENT IS GOING TO TELL ME HOW I HAVE TO TREAT MY DOGS.MY DOGS ARE MY KIDS AND LIVE IN MY HOUSE WITH ME AND THATS THE WAY THAT WILL STAY BILL OR NO BILL. THIS BILL IS WRONG. GO AFTER THE HORRIBLE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT DONT CONCIDER THE LIVES AND FEELINGS OF THE ANIMALS (PUPPY MILLS) WHO CAGE THERE DOGS AND CATS IN LITTLE TINY METAL CAGES THERE INTIRE LIFE AND WHEN OF NO USE ANY MORE PUT A BULLETE IN THERE HEAD THAT TO ME SEEMS TO BE THE ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED NOT US HOBBY BREEDERS. SO THINK ON THAT ONE (AKC) VOTE NO OR LOSSE ALOT OF US NOW AKC SUPPORTERS.
AKC WILL LOOSE SO MANY MEMBERS>THERE IS MANY OTHER REGISTRIES>MAY I SUGGEST>EVERYONE LEAVE THE AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB>GOOD-BYE TO AKC>THIS IS A BIG NO TO THIS PETITION.
This bill only hurts pets and responsible breeders, not mills who already isolate their animals because they have too many to properly socialize them and give them the love they need.
This will harm small breeders and do nothing against the large volume kitten mills and catteries, who don't care about the kitten's health and the life they will lead.
I would think the Government would have more important things that they need to be worried about, such as terrorism, poverty, medicare problems, just to name a few. Why would they even want to dictate how many animals a breeder produces, inside the privacy of their home. After all the amount of property taxes we pay should be ebough for them to leave us alone in our own homes......this is a joke.
