we sill need to get rid of these awful puppy mills and keep the good reputble breeders who love and care for these animals.you can tell which dogs come out of the mills as they are nt socializwd. when they come from a loving breeders' home, they are wonderful, happy social pet. please, for the sake of all these dogs and their future bloodlines, please, OPPOSE THIS BILL!!!!!
as a small farm/breeder I feel that we should inforce the awa and not mess with something that not inforced any way .why hurt the responds able breeders/ and small farm owners with more laws .
I feel people shouldnt get carried away in there passion to save anwanted animals.
most of us breeders care for our animals like we do our kids.
Hobby breeders and breed rescue groups are the ones who will be hurt by this bill. Vote against it. Use the existing laws to close down true puppy mills.
Please do not pass this bill. You are taking away a freedom that we have as Americans. In passing this bill, you are not solving the problems of puppy mills. You are hurting the people who do care about the welfare of animals and health of their animals. I cannot believe that Akc would stand behind this bill that is not well written and clearly does not define what a residental hobby breeder is and only allows special interest groups such as DDAL and HSUS to implement their definition after the fact. I feel that AKC has a direct conflict of interest! Perhaps AKC is trying to recover their loss of revenue but by doing this they are abandoning the mainstream of the hobbyists breeders to whom we all thought AKC was there for, as their main concern.
Your bill does NOTHING to prevent puppy mills, however it adds private breeders to the list of commercial breeders.
There is a HUGE difference here. Why are you set on taking away our freedom to own and enjoy our dogs? Why would a private breeder have to send out their family pets to live in a kennel when they are well cared for in their private homes? Basically you are saying the puppy mills take better care of their dogs and are for the welfare of those dogs versus the private hobby breeder!!! I am apppauled. I also am furious that Akc is supporting this bill.
PAWS 2005 SB1139/HB2669 needs to be recalled! It is not written well and is not complete. Defining what is a ' hobby residential breeder ' *must be addressed and defined* before any such legislation should be presented. It is my opinion that an unsatisfactory definition could easily be implemented after the fact, by virtue of the special interests groups such as the DDAL and HSUS who are in support of this bill. Furthermore at this time it is my opinion the AKC has a direct conflict of interest, at this juncture the AKC appears to have it's own issues internally which seem to be based around recovery of revenue. I believe at this time the AKC can not act as an impartial responsible advisor
As a resident of PA, I once again watch Sen. Santorum back something that is so completely extreme. Get a clue, Sen. Santorum. You need to focus on the puppy mills in your state, instead of hurting small hobbyist breeders who love and care for the health and welfare of their dogs.
Your proposed legislation does nothing to prevent puppy mills it only adds private breeders to the list. Private breeders who do not meet the criteria for USDA licensing.

All of my dogs are tested for genetic disease. All of my puppies are house raised. All of my breeding stock has achieved Championship status with AKC. They are my children. Tell me how PAWS is helpful again? Bunk!

There is absolutely nothing built into this new legislation that will help the dogs. Private show breeders are being legally phased out through this gawd awful legislation. American pet owners and small breeders are losing rights.
We need to do a better job of enforcing the AWA, not passing more regulations. This bill will drive small, hobby breeders out of business. When the reputable, small hobby breeders have quit breeding due to all the new headaches, who will meet the demand for pets then? Puppy mills and large commercial breeders who are the ones that are guilty of not properly caring for the animals in the first place. This bill will do more harm than good.
Please find something more worth while to support! There are so many things out there that humans can benefit from. This is a waste of everyones time and your efforts. Lobby for Human issues, please!
As a responsible breeder of small animals, I strongly encourage our congressmen and senators to not support this bill. Our local, State and National organizations which we support, are working diligently to monitor the humane treatment of animals and the breeding industry. Please do not support this bill.
What is the driving force behind the need for government to take another step into controlling our private lives? Please address your efforts to much more important problems.
Quit lining your pockets and your brains with lies about the responsible pet owners. This bill needs to be pulled and pulled quickly. This bill is just another government layer of bureaucracy! Pull this bill.
I have witnessed puppy mills and high volume breeders first hand. It is a shame how these animals are kept in cages with no socialization just to pump out puppies. This bill will only make it easier for them and hurt the true animal lovers that breed in their fome and raise family loved animals.
