Please consider all the facts before rushing to sign this bill, Do your due diligence and visit a couple of puppy mills and see the condition of the animals, then visit some hobby breeders homes and see their kids ( yes the animals are their kids ) Do not rush to punish those of us that really care about the quality of life of the adults and our future offspring. Thankyou for your consideration in this very crucial matter!!
I can see no merit from this bill if passed. I'm a vet tech, and chihuahua breeder. I sat on the board of Directiors of a animal welfare assoc - who monitors animal abuse. As well, I'm a foster home for our group.
This bill if passed will only enhance the opportunity of (prisoners for Greed) The many puppymills who have no heart for the animals they breed purly for profit. Unlike the hobby breeder, with much love and devotion for their canine kids! If it weren't for the these caring breeders our public wouldn't have a choice but to purchase a sick or inbreed baby, either from the puppymill or pet store who will puchase the pup from the broker who purchased it from the USDA inspected (puppymill) Humm, not much of a choice for the public or our Representatives but to put this bill in the trash. I pray for the benifit and betterment of the breeds this will be our victory in the end. Thank you
The USDA and other agencies should concentrate their efforts on shutting down puppymills, instead of this proposed bill which will infringe upon the rights of responsible breeders.
I thought one of the better things about a Republican regime was the goal of keeping the government out of the people's hair. This seems to be going the wrong direction.
We do not need more laws, just enforcement of the current ones. I would hate for poor animals having to be distroyed because of new federal guidlines that would keep people from opening their homes to these poor animals, free of charge, no requests for money from the federal government.
I have taken in more poor little animals "thrown away" by thoughtless people, cleaned them, fed them, got them vet checked and a new loving home found with responsible people. People that would be hurt by a new law initiated by a busy-body orginazation that would control everybodies right to own an animal.
This bill should be dropped and a new bill should be made to put the puppy mills out of business, the ones who really hurt the animals. Do the right thing, stop trying to take away another constitutional right of the people, AND STILL PROTECT THE ANIMALS, STOP THE PUPPY MILLS.
Anything that involves Animal Rights Groups and Government is a bad thing to begin with.
Looks like American is not the land of the free anymore. Thank you W and the Bush Admin. Expose the Downing Street Memo, Bush lied!
Again with the intrusion of the goverment without all the facts! Leave the hobby breeders alone and go after the true offenders, the large puppy mills!
I do not breed dogs but I do own two. I would never buy a puppy from a puppy mill. I watched a pet store in the mall being shut down because their dogs came from a puppy mill and so many people reported them or brought their animals back due to sickness and even death. Don't let the government keep taking our freedoms away little by little like they have been doing.
How do we teach our childern compassion ? How long before our local 4-H clubs no longer exsist ?
Too many kids grow up without the joy that pets bring. Having my kids involed in 4-H breeding/showing programs and cat resuce work has helped to shape their lives. They have become productive members of society, not taking up cell space in a prison.
Please, we need stricter enforcement of the laws we have to crack down on puppy mills and animal abuse.
We were inspected by AKC and had NO violations. I started telling the Inspector the name of each of my dogs and he said 'How can you remember all of their names?' I looked at him like he had three heads and told him that when you have raised an animal from birth, nursed it through sicknesses, watched it grow and mature, it is like your child. He didn't seem to get that. We love each and every one of our dogs as if they were our children and I cannot imagine anyone passing a bill denying us of that right. We provide strong, healthy, socially stable puppies to people that want the same. The 'Puppy Mills' do not. I would ask the question to any supporter of PAWS, 'if you were buying a pet for your grandchild, would you like one from a Puppy Mill or one from a responsible breeder? Do the morally right thing here. Look into your heart. You know which one you would choose.
Please oppose PAWS 2005, SB1139/HB2669. It does nothing to protect the animals. Only hinders the ones that truly love and care for them responsibly - regardless of species raised.
PAWS requires goverment inspection of the residences of hobby breeders, who are already regulated by local authorities. By expanding USDA inspections into hobby breeders' homes, it will stretch USDA resources and diminish their ability to concentrate on large-scale commercial and interstate animal raising and transportation
Kill this bill. Just more of our rights being taken away. Let Freedom Ring, Bah Humbug!
When are people going to realize that the AKC in bed with Animal Rights Groups just mean more money for them both and the little guy still gets screwed. Impeach Bush!
PAWS 2005 SB1139/HB2669 needs to be recalled! It is not written well and is not complete. Defining what is a ' hobby residential breeder ' *must be addressed and defined* before any such legislation should be presented. It is my opinion that an unsatisfactory definition could easily be implemented after the fact, by virtue of the special interests groups such as the DDAL and HSUS who are in support of this bill. Furthermore at this time it is my opinion the AKC has a direct conflict of interest, at this juncture the AKC appears to have it's own issues internally which seem to be based around recovery of revenue. I believe at this time the AKC can not act as an impartial responsible advisor.
Sincerely,
George L Heitz USNR-Retired
The proposed amendments stray from the intent of the AWA legislation. Hobby breeders do not need to be USDA licensed. The changes to allow the USDA to better enforce what it is already responsible for are good. Creating an unenforcable work load by adding thousands of breeders to be potenially licensed is not.
The current laws need to be enforced. This legislation will not stop the large puppy mills. It will only play into the hands of large puppy corporations and destroy hobby breeders.
I am opposed to the SB1139 bill and do not like it at all. It does not treat the home owner / breeder in a proper manner, is not fair and is detrimental to purebred dogs.
hobby breeders are not a threat to the lives of our pups. we raise them underfoot to make them well socialized family friendly members very early on. we are not the PUPPY MILLS! and how often do you see a pure bred dog in the shelters? NOT often i use to work for one i also rescue them. anything to make more paperwork, and to fill up our court system that is overloaded as it is. its all about the money. dont we pay enough for our freedom? last time i looked i still have rights!
