Please don't take my love of breeding pekes away. I am retired and it is my only source of enjoyment. They are part of my home and they love to be here. Going after the true puppy mills would be a better solution. This bill is ridiculous!
I don't want to buy my dogs from Pet Stores that usually have nothing but "puppy mill" dogs. I want to buy from breeders that raise their dogs in their homes and I can see the parents!!
Proper breeders are responsible to expose puppies to home situations as early as possible. Studies have shown that after the first 8 weeks it becomes much more difficult to raise a well socialized dog. Better quaility pets should always be this countries priority in legislation.
I think it highly unwise to create legislation that will increase government budgetary encumbrance AND place the government further in opposition to citizen's rights. The AWA is sufficent as it stands - PAWS 2005 should be defeated.
As a former USDA inspected hobby breeder , I have first hand experience with the almost "inhumane" way government agencies want dogs treated. Dogs are live, feeling, loving, animals, please don't have them treated as a commodity, and say No to this bill.
We have 3 children who raise rabbits for 4H. It would be a shame for this bill to pass. We would most likely make them chccose to do 4H in non animal categories.
I am totally against PAWS 2005, SB1139/HB2669. It would make my passion of showing and raising bunnies seem like a business, which it is not. Anyone can tell you that showing rabbits is not for profit but for the fun and experience of improving your pets.
This PAWS bill will not help the situation. It is misguided and aimed at the responsible groups that support responsible animal ownership. Do not let the voice of the radical minority outweigh the voices of the sensible majority. Vote NO to the PAWS 2005 bill.
Being a responsible dog owner, breeder/exhibitor of champions, and rescuing dogs out of my own pocket, I have seen first hand many sides of this issue. I believe PAWS 2005 proposed legislation SB1139/HB2669 is NOT a solution to the problem. As a matter of fact, I see it as an infringement and an obstacle to responsible pet ownership. Reputable and responsible breeders/owners love their pets and do their best to provide the "perfect" home for their beloved family members by choice-not mandate. We already have adequate legislation in place that is not effectively enforced. If time and finances need to be implemented, please enforce the laws we already have. The last thing society needs is more unneccessary legislation when previous laws are not enforced.
Thank you,
Judi Moore
I firmly believe that this bill will only hender the conscientious breeders and NOT help us. With USDA inspections and regulations, this country is becoming more government controlled and not the Land of the Free! There is already too much government control in our society today. I am totally against PAWS 2005, SB1139/HB2669.
This bill will kill the rabbit showing and should be stopped.Us rabbit showers are not in it for profit but fun the few rabbits we sell don't make up any of what we spend
This bill is so poorly written, that only the small hobby breeders, who raise their dogs in their homes as a member of their family are going to be effected, along with all the poor dogs, cats and puppies who will have to be USDA controlled and raised in isolation in cages and kennels. Large Commercial breeders (puppy mills) are already regulated, they need to enforce these regulations not go after the small hobby breeders. I am floored that it made it this far without being yanked.
This PAWS bill will only Hurt Hobby breeders of dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals and make them be licensed and inspected. This bill should only target Large Commercial Breeders and not hobby breeders. Please consider the bad effects this will have on our youth that enjoy any animal breeding hobby.
I strongly oppose this bill. If this bill passes, it won't hurt the puppy mills, which are already regulated, it will only hurt the reputable/responsible hobby breeders who spend millions on the health and temperament of their dogs, and who spend countless hours properly socialize them. Many of the hobby breeders will be forced out of breeding and the commercial breeders will be the only ones who will be left breeding. No more home raised puppies. Shame on Sen. Santorum and shame on AKC. We need to enforce current laws and throw the paw's bill in the trash.
I think the government is also just looking for more ways to make money. Breeders do not make a profit from breeding so why should the government make money off of breeders.
I understand the desire to control puppy mills, but the way this bill is written will be devistating to hobby breeders of several species of animals. It will also negatively impact 4-H and FFA projects. This amendment is a BAD idea. I see no indication that this will resolve the problem, and it seems that enforcement will be a nightmare.
Small time breeders/ hobbiests provide dogs that are well socialized and ready for homes. Not everyone wants a show dog at show dog prices. Puppy mills is where much needed attention should be focused, not on family raised pets. Our dogs are treated as well as we treat our children. Not only that, being a responsible breeder and having my children work with the animals teaches them responsibility, animal kindness, and much respect. Don't take this opportunity from my family.
Thank you.
I am requesting US Senators and Representatives to oppose Sen. Santorum's PAWS 2005, SB1139/HB2669. It can do nothing but harm the concerned and caring hobby breeders who care for & treat their dogs better than many people treat their children. It will invade their privacy in their homes and limit their ability to continue to do the excellant job they already do. Such a law will only cost the taxpayer billions of dollars for paper work and inspectors that can better be spent to inspect the puppy mills. Regulations should be made more stringent for care and housing of animals in these large commercial outfits. Please use the funds and time wisely. Do not pass this bill.
This bill is only going to hurt those who love dogs and who breed responsibly. It is Puppy mills and the owners/operators of these businesses that you need to focus your efforts towards. Please do not pass this bill.
Please stop this bill! It will infringe on our rights as pet owners and breeders. We should not be penalized by restricting our litters and puppies that we are allowed to sell because we do it in a home envirnoment.
This law is so rediculus. Just another excuse for goverm=nment to stick its nose into everything. There is nothing wrong with the current laws on the books they just need to be enforced instead of being ignored. What is this world coming too. If we pass this law we are no better than the comunist countries and have all our freedoms taken away!
