I oppose this bill as a small hobby breeder who puts my heart and soul into my program. This is very unfair especially for the rescue organization which i am very involved in.

This bill has me sick to my stomach. It took me over a year to find a reputable breeder. All this bill is going to do is discourage those who have a breed's best interest at heart.
Hobby breeders of dogs, raise them in their homes to insure socialization. Most Hobby breeders would be hurt by stringent laws restricting litters, stud services, and puppy sales. We beleive the PAWS 2005 proposed ledgislationSB1139/HB2669 will infringe on our rights as private citizen to own or sell dogs, hindering responsible hobby breeders and show dogs owners to continue Please stop this bill.
This is just a horrible thing to even think about trying to pass. Are you trying to encourage more puppymills do you not care for those poor animals at all!!! I am appauled that something like this is even trying to be passed!!!!
I agree on coming up with a bill that will regulate puppymills, however this bill will not do that. It will only hurt the responsible, ethical breeders. But even worse it will hurt those dogs in need of rescue, and the rescue groups that are dedicated to helping them. This bill is NOT the way to go!!! Vote NO!
Please do not let this pass. Puppy mills are the ones that need governing, not a home breeder. Small hobby breeders take the utmost care and raise their pups with love and sanitation, pet stores and puppy mills, are what should be looked into !
HI I'M A SMALL TIME BREEDER OF REGISTERED BEAGLES. MY DOGS ARE VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND THEIR KENNELS ARE CLEANED DAILY. ALL ARE UP TO DATE ON THEIR SHOTS, DEWORMING, AND ARE IN GOOD HEALTH. THE MONEY FROM THE PUPS IS USED IN PART TO TAKE CARE OF MY DOGS THE REST IS USED TO RAISE MY FAMILY. IF I COULDN'T RAISE BEAGLES-MY FAMILY WOULD NEVER MAKE ENDS MET. OFFER WHEN I'M DOWN TO MY LAST DOLLAR MY DOGS SEEM TO COME THOUGH FOR ME. EITHER THOUGH SELLING A PUPPY OR GETING A DEPOSIT IN THE MAIL. THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I TAKE GREAT CARE OF MY BEAGLES. I KNOW THEY WILL COME THOUGH FOR ME WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH. THEY ALWAYS DO. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ME AND MY SONS WOULD DO WITHOUT THEM.
Most of the best puppies are raised by people in their homes. These are the people who raise only a litter every couple of years and find excellent loving homes for them. They should be doing something about the " breeders" with 30 or 40 dogs, they call themselves a kennel.
please oppose this bill. It only hurts pets by denying them the socialization and human contact they need to be truly great pets. And its going all but stop rescures.
I am 18 and am just really getting started showing in open this year with my Mini Rex rabbits. I have been doing very well with my little honies so far this year, winning my first few Best of Breeds against the adults at the open table. This will surely affect me along with all of my good rabbit friends. I get sick every time I think that I may not have them before long. These animals are my life and my true love. Its in my blood now, I don't think I could ever go back to not having rabbits. They helped me grow up.
Small hobby and show breeders should not be targeted or effected by a bill like this. They are small part-time breeders who do it for enjoyment and enjoy showing, profits are rare in many cases. To regulate them like large businesses and expect them to carry the burden of the expenses and paper work required for a true business is unreasonable for a small hobby breeder. Cat and dog breeders have a small exclusion, other animals though have nothing to protect even a small breeder. Rabbits, Birds, Chincillas, etc. would only take the offspring of one or two females to reach the $500 limit proposed.
Use the laws to regulate puppymills/commercial kennels, NOT rescue groups and hobby breeders! This amendment will shut down hundreds of rescue groups across the country, and after that millions of dogs will die in shelters... because there will be no one to save them. Stop the commercial kennels from pumping our millions of puppies a year. THAT is what needs to be done!!!
I think you guys are stupid for trying to force this dumb bill.....it doesn't stop puppy millers, and hurts the responsible breeders!!!!
Please focus your efforts somewhere else, this is yet another attmept for BIG BROTHER to tell me what I can and can't do. What happened to our freedom? Not only does this effect breeding but it also effects rescue helpers! It's useless, do not pass this bill.
Sen Santorum, you are NOT educating yourself by talking to the RIGHT people. You are making a very serious mistake by presenting this legislation. You are NOT for the dog fancy.
This is a bill written with ignorance of how the system truly works - it punishes those who are already abiding the laws and ignores those already breaking them. In the long run, it's only going to worsen the problem it claims to be addressing. PLEASE don't pass this law!
Don't punish the reputable breeder, you need to find out how to shut down the puppymills. We love our animals and take very good care of them. There is alot of time and love involved in raising our puppies. Please reconsider this bill.
Please consider the terrible state of affairs for the small in home breeder of quality dogs by those of us who are extremely responsible. If the animal rights activists can take away our priveledges in this free country what will be next??? I am staunchly against this bill!!!
I am a small but very reputible breeder. I am dedicated to the breed, not to making money. Collies are my specialty. As a responsible breeder I make sure all are healthy, no collie eyes, no hip problems and offer guarantee. I follow up with my new owners to assist them in training and any other problems they may have. My dogs only go to GREAT homes. Not just good ones. One ones like the Humane Society where they don't check at all. It would be a shame to stop people like me from providing wonderful dogs to wonderful homes. I only breed once every 2 years but my quality of dogs and the homes they go to are the best. Please consider us small breeders. We care more than even some of the big ones.
Please do not pass this law..Rescues are needed and Hobby breeders are important to the integrity of all breeds. A bill needs to be written to ban Puppy Mills that are mass producing un socialized and sick puppies. Please re-think the true meaning behind this bill
Legislators often act to satisfy a contingency without making a good faith inquiry into the possible fallout of the legislation that they agree to support. This amendment will be hurtful, not only to citizens who also consider themselves responsible breeders, but also the thousands of future litters who will be deprived of the benefit of regular human contact and nuturing. This proposal is fraught and should not go forward.
breeders that are dedicated to their breeds and produce lovely specimens
that are sound, tested, shown, and are already doing the best they can for
their breeds are the ones that will be affected. The only ones that new
rules affect are the ones that are already following them.
I am a 3rd geration dog breeding hobbyist of my family's favored breed. I only have a few dogs and show them in the ring. Please put a stop to this poorly written bill. I'd like to remain a law abiding citizen.
As written PAWS does not insure that animals will be well bred and cared for properly. It will not prevent unplanned litters in our urban areas which are what fill our animal shelters. It is a bandaid that does not at all cover the wound.
I don't think that the Government should be trying to run things like this paws. I think you should leave us hobby breeder's and kennel owers alone. I think AKC should leave things alone as well because most of the money they get to run with ( comes from people like use ) we pay for them to do a job for us. all are show dues, akc papers are how they keep their jobs. maybe we should start a new club and make it better than AKC. they have been doing a really bad job for a very long time.
From reading this bill, it looks as though the hobby breeder (and the hobby breeder's dogs) are the ones being punished, while puppy mills are left untouched. If the government wants to help the unwanted dog/cat population, start by limiting the amount of litters a puppy mill can produce in a month/year. That would make alot more sense.
Please DO NOT Support this bill. It is missing the main target, at the expense of 'responsible' pet owners. Puppy mills and the owners/operators are where the focus should be! This bill only hurts pets and responsible breeders, not PUPPIE MILLS who already isolate their animals because they have too many. THey end up not being properly socialized and not getting the love and attention they deserve. Please stop this bill.
