This bill is an outrage! Animals are being abused but this bill isn't going to hurt puppy mills it will hurt individual, committed breeders. Regulate pet stores. That's where puppy mills sell their ill gotten puppies.
I love my dogs and would never mistreat them. I am excited for my babies to have babies and for me to spend the time finding them suitable homes. I believe that these dogs are my family and I plan to breed to better the entire Shar Pei Breed. The point here is quality not quantity. If we judge by the condition of the animals and not the number of animals we might be better able to help the unfortunate ones, mistreated for financial gain. Any reputable breeder knows, we don't do this to make money. You will never get rich raising puppies.
This bill makes no sense why stop home breeding, but let puppy mills stay in business.. I do not support the PAWs bill 2005 and think it violates the rights of home breeders, and people who purchase dogs/cats from a home breeder.
What you should be doing is outlawing puppy mills and pet stores. I have two dogs...one from a pet store who is terrified of any little noise and one from a home breeder who is the sweetest little dog. I would never buy a dog from anyone but a home breeder. They spend the time and loving care that a puppy needs.
Its about time they take care of more inport stuff then who got dogs and cats and what we are doin with them! Come on Michigan get real is there anyrhing more inport then who's breeding there pets!!! I would like to think I can do what I want in my own Home, time to make a stand and just so No
I think this a very bad bill. Perhaps there are some who abuse the animals they have, but don't let a few rotten apples spoil things for all of us who enjoy our dogs and love them as they do their children.
Do not pass PAWS. There are many hobby breeders and their animals who would be adversely affected. Socialization for dogs is best when done in-home, where they are considered part of the family by many in-home breeders.
This is supposed to be a free country, but there are regulations being put on everything! There are more important issues for the government to worry about than home breeding pets!!
please stop this bill
this bill will take away my rights as an american to raise dogs in my home
it will put pet shops out of business (if no one is allowed to breed dogs there will be no need for dog food or dog supplies)with no more pet shops less taxes to collect
of course we won't need dog groomers either
this bill will seriously hurt all dog breeders and pet businesses and the need for vets
I oppose this bill to be passed it is slopy and the people who are trying to pass it are not properly informed of the hobby breeders. we take great pride in our dogs and the dogs that we breed. Only the best of the best should be bred...
This Bill Is A Joke, You are trying to take from us, if you truley care about the animlas you need to go after all the Puppy Mills that are out there, you are going to make it not even possible to find a quality pet, who are we suppose to trust, I know I trust home breeders they really care for there animlas and you can call and speak with them in to regards to pretty much everything, unlike a pet store which you can as questions and almost always won't know 1 thing about the animal they are trying to sell, they are also sick animals they purchase from Puppy Mills, I do believe we should have our thoughts on bigger things here. I can't believe AKC is backing this and I know for me when I do purchase a puppy I will not register with them
Use your God-given common sense and leave things the way that it is. Why do people have to try to ruin everything in this world today. Leave the little breeders alone. Just remember, this is still the USA.
Leave the hobby breeders alone! We sell dogs to folks that otherwise couldnt afford what the PET SHOPS sell them for.. It is not up to you to decide who does or who does not sell puppies or dogs. as long as the dogs or pups are not being abused or used as a puppy mill then it should be left to the individual.
All the small breeders i know are people who love their pets very much and take all precautions to protect them and their offspring...please do not support this bill..it will in my opinion do more harm than good..
I think this PAWS is a bad idea. I am a small breeder and take wonderful care of my babies. My puppies are raised in my home. This would put all small hobby breeders out, all that would be left are puppymills and pet shops, that sell sick dogs and puppies.Do not pass this bill.
This bill is a terrible bill. It means no more home breeders. This bill helps the puppy mills in PA, the worst state for these violations. It means no more competition for the puppy mills of PA.
This is just crazy, you can't come up with a different bill to try and pass that severs a purpose, who are you trying to kid here? This bill will NO way help the animlas but in turn hurt them and everyone who is involved, I oppose to this bill being passed
This bill will do more harm than good to honest, responsible pet breeders and owners. The congress should focus on strict enforcement of present laws; go after the puppy mills, and the scum who breed and abuse pets.. especially those who breed and " train" animals to be agressive for illicit purposes.
I am opposed to PAWS/ Beside this being a poorly written bill it will not stop puppy mills. Here we go again punishing the good dog owners for a few irresponsible people. We need to inforce the animal cruelty laws that we already have in stead of passing new ones. If the laws we have now can't be enforced because of lack of law enforcement and city funds what do we need new ones for?
we,the people do not need another ill imposed law restricting our rights as individuals, citizens, dog owners/breeders/fanciers. this is a constitutional right,as is the right to bear arms, hunt, fish, and pursue our freedoms to be happy, especially those of us who own homes, and property.doesn't the government limit us enough with high taxes, restrictions on our everyday living, and overwhelming costs of insurance, and living expenses.the right to own,and breed dogs should not be a government issue.
The restraints this legislation will put on Rescues will cause the death of many thousands of adoptable animals because Rescues work mostly in the red and can not afford the requirements made. There needs to be explicit exemption for Rescues and Responsible Hobby Breeders who do everything in the best interest of the animals, not in the interest of profit.
We believe that the PAWS provisions will further invade/limit private citizens' rights to own and breed pets, which we find unacceptable.
This bill is rediculous! As a breeder of quality dogs, I LOVE to have my babies inside with me. Who in thier right MIND would put dogs on concrete 24/7? Think about what that would do to thier legs and paw pads!?! Is AKC really trying to protect the dogs, or just trying to appease a group such as PITA.
responsible pet breeders are not the problem. People like the crazy person who used to live next to us with mean pit bulls and no spaying and neutering are the problem. They can't enforce the laws they have now, why pass more. There are thugs everywhere around us and the law here does nothing, not to mention the crack houses.
I have five dogs, two registered Poodles, one Poodle foundling, one Maltese-Poodle mix and one German Sherperd-Rottwieler mix. All are comfort and protection for me. Wit this legistation, none of these uniqye charesteristics and personalities would have ever been available to me. Think about it, legislated breeding would constitute an end to pets with the character and breeding that we so appreciate, no matter what breed is your personal favorite.
What does a home breeder provide? A healthy pup, a guarantee, continued support, and most will even take back the puppy if you can no longer care for it.
What does a pet store or puppymill provide? A pup with a huge price tag. Sure it's cute, but it stops there.
What will YOU have to provide if you purchase from a petstore or puppymill? TONS of money for vet bills. By passing this bill you will no longer have the option of researching for that honest home breeder who will provide you with a healthy new family member. You will no longer be able to call that breeder when you have a question. The sales people at pet stores could care less what happpens to that puppy when you walk out the door.
PLEASE PLEASE DON'T MAKE US ALL SING A VERY SAD VERSION OF HOW MUCH IS THAT POOR SICK OVER PRICED PUPPY IN THE WINDOW.
Responsible breeders of quality home raised animals who devote extensive time, love and resources to raise show, pet/companion, therapy, hunting, obedience, earthdog, agility, service dogs and puppies, (and cats & other animals too) temperament tested, & guaranteed healthy should not be penalized. This Bill will penalize them. Hobby breeder homes raised many of the 911 service dogs aiding recovery in NYC. Have we forgotten that we were all united and all touched by what is was like to have our freedom trampled; to live and work safely and without fear in America? Men & women are fighting for our freedom, fighting terrorism, and concurrently our freedom of choice at home as we know it is in jeopardy with a poorly written bill with many loopholes left to personal interpretation. This Bill therefore promotes puppy mills and retail stores that can't possibly educate the buyer making sure their choice is based on factual breed specific information. They don't live with all the breeds they sell, they sell goods. Quality animal breeders will not survive these restrictions. We all have to make judgments based on the information provided and the basis of this bill appears weak, erodes our freedom and doesn't address the inhumane, filthy, unsocialized, sick animals shipping to retail stores from Mills around the USA. Where do YOU want to purchase a puppy? Do you think a puppy will ride well with the family in the car with you after it was traumatized being trucked across the country at eight weeks of age? Bonding must be introduced to puppies early on in their life, they must learn this with caring breeders first and then owners that provide love. This does not happen in Cat or Dog Mills or Animal Retail Stores, basic needs are very often not met such as quality vet care, adequate food and water, love and socialization. These puppies frequently
A GREAT family dog is a puppy that has been socialized since birth. This will NOT happen if this passes. Dogs are a huge part of family and that should not be destroyed!
I believe this bill would hurt us hobby breeders that raise our dogs in the house as our children. They should not be able to dictate how I raise my pups. They are very well cared for that is the importnant part
This bill will do nothing to protect animals. There are laws already in effect directed toward the real problem, puppy mills. Inspectors will be further stretched if this bill passes. If you are truly looking after Animal Welfare enforce the laws already in existence. And if you truly care, stop th ebusiness of raising pets for profit. There is no love in a puppy mill, only dollar signs.
I am not a dog/cat breeder, but I would prefer to buy my " pet" from a qualified breeder than go to the Humane Society (I applaud their work though) or a pet store. This is America - we are a free country, so please do not pass a bill telling us what we can and cannot do.
I do not agree with this at all! all it will do is hurt the people who are trying to help these poor animals and the people who aren't doing anything wrong with their animals!
