Though I recognize there are many lesser quality and unethical breeders in the world, I cannot support legislation that will negatively affect the good to a greater degree than it will the bad. Please do not support PAWS Act 2005 (SB 1139/HB 2669)
We strongly oppose this.
Rescue exists for a reason, because the SHELTERS are full.
I condone adopting a shelter pet, HOWEVER Rescue is a great option for many- who might prefer the extra benefits.
The list of the benefits could go on and on and on . . .
It's unbelievable that this bill has even been taken into consideration. Puppy mills and pet shops are the real enemy, not responsible home breeders. Once again it is all about money and not the wellfare of the animals. It's appauling. VOTE NO!
Instead of regulating those home breeders and small rescues who already screen buyers to ensure proper homes, the regulations already in place need to be enforced. Pet shops and puppy mills do not go to the lengths small rescues and home breeders do to ensure the animals they sell are health tested and guaranteed and that the new owners will give them a good loving home. They are the ones who flood the market with animals with no health testing, minor, if any, health guarantees, and their only requirement is that the new owner has the money to pay for the animals they sell. The samll breeder and rescues use their own funds, rather than government money funding to run their businesses and to care for the animals. If inspectors closed down puppy mills, there would be little need for shelters to care for neglected and abused animals. Most small home-run breeding businesses and rescues are the ones who keep their dogs in their homes, make sure their animals are cared for, vaccinated, health tested, and socialized. They are the ones who require vet statements and references as to the capability of those who buy their animals to properly care for them, and most are sold either on limited registration or already sterilized. This law would require more inspectors to govern those who already govern themselves with much stricter regulations than the law now does for puppy mills and pet shops! If puppy mills are closed down, that will take care of the biggest problem that plagues pets today...too many animals in one place who do not receive the proper care, feeding, health testing, socialization, and live in filthy conditions. Many of those animals are inbred because it's cheaper for puppy millers to keep back more pups for breeding purposes than to buy from other bloodlines. They are the ones who keep every female bred on every heat cycle for as long as they are able to raise pups. They put as little money into what they do as possible to receive as much profit per li
This bill will hurt the most responsible breeder's. We love our animals and raise them in a loving home envirment. They are handled, loved and well socailized before leaving us and make loving pets.
I am a hobby breeder who has reseached my breed that i have chosen and i keep my dogs in my home to ensure their well being and comfort, they are my family members and i think this is ludicrous to pass a bill to make me house them outdoors where i cannot ensure their well being against poachers and other predators. I have spent a great deal of my time and money to improve my lines and to provide whatever my pets need to be happy and to have strangers tell me what is best for them i dont think is fair. Please do not pass this bill.
I urge everyone to vote NO to this bill to limit the number of puppies/litters a breeder can have each year! This bill will not stop the puppy mills, it will only hurt the responsible breeder and in turn the public who are trying to make sure the puppy they purchase is in fact what they get! Lets enforce the laws that exist instead of passing new one that do not have a prayer of eliminating the irresponsible breeders!!!! I say vote NO!!!
I am just sick about this, and AKC is the low life in this whole matter. I am now going to transfer ALL of my dogs to UKC, where you can DNA your females, a litter registration is only $20 per litter, its a purebred registry thats been rated number two behind AKC for years. THey started in 1898 and care about the dogs in shows and not the handlers like AKC who is so political now it makes me sick. United Kennel Club also is FOR the people and small breeders, and against mills and this PAWS bill...take a look, its so worth the change to me! I went to the message board at UKC, and it was said that some breeders of a hound group asked AKC some questions, and they are now banned. That should tell you about AKC. BOYCOTT AKC for starters, then call your senator and congressmen, I just did !!!!!
PRAY for the future of our pets, and for the future of us smaller breeders who love our pets and give them more care and love then ANY commercial breeder will or can!
My AKC pets are adopted out. The parents must be papered to receive one unlike the puppy mills. Protect our good pets future and the future pet owners who want really good pets.
I have always bought my cats from small breeders who took great care of their cats and the health of their animals This bill would destroy this small breeder who socializes his/her animals into a family an creates an affectionate loving pet. Further with the advent of the laws forbidding the ownership of certain breeds of dogs in certain cities and/or higher insurance rates for owneship of some breeds, I feel this nothing more than more government interference with our lives. I urge this bill be defeated.
This legislation does not support the responsible breeding of purebred dogs by hobby breeders. These are the people who produce the highest quality dogs, and support DNA testing to reduce genetic maladies in specific breeds. This law only supports commercial breeders who do no health testing.
I think this would be a horrible thing to do to small breeders, which I am included, but also to the many wonderful, lovable dogs that would have to be destroyed.
You wouldn't dare ask me to cage my children so why do you think I would ever cage my doggies. They are my FAMILY. PAWS or no paws never will I give up my dogs, cage my dogs, or allow you(USDA) to step foot in my HOME. As a matter of fact. I'm adding to my breeding program. I'm now in search of some of the best dogs around so I can provide some of the best puppies to loving homes. Unlike your so called licensed facilities. I screen my buyers and care about my puppies even after they have been placed.
The breeders that this will punish are the same ones that are trying to better their bloodlines. Please focus on the puppy mills that are only out to make a buck.
USDA is a bunch of low lifes. They approve puppy mills so doesn't that tell you what kind of standards they have. I have seen USDA inspected mills, where there were so many pups in one tiny cage and these pups looked very hungry. It is the huge commercial kennels that should be checked on, they are the ones selling to pet stores and puppy mills. Yes, I am a home breeder, I love what I do, and I love my dog. I will be damned if they make me sell my dogs, they will have to arrest me, and I will go with no registry from now on also. AKC has shocked me, but thats ok, rumor has it that many are dropping AKC after this. They will get no more of my money and I spoke so highly of them in the past, but have since learned they are not the elite of registries as I hoped, so to you AKC...I hope you go out of business, and to you USDA, you will have to find me first, because as of my next litter, I will leave no paper trails....
I ask you, are you a pet owner? Who would you rather purchase a puppy from a caring home-breeder who respects the animal or from someone who mass produces animals solely for profit? I can't see how this law can even be considered. Do you have Common Sense? Well Use It!!! VOTE NO!!!
Go after the puppy mill breeders where the ONLY concern is how many litters can produce the most money--not healthy, well socialized animals who enhance our families.
I OPPOSE to this bill. It is only going to hurt the animals, we need to focus on PUPPY MILLS! I don't know what people where even thinking when they brought this bill forward, Say NO Please
I rasied my puppy's and there mom and dads in my home. I love all my dogs. They are never locked up in cages,or crates. They have the run of my home.We have enought dogs locked up, the hobby breeders have great puppie's and most are in the homes.
We need to stop taking the rights away from the people.
How are we supposed to breed great dogs for show if our numbers are limited? I'm guessing you don't even own a dog to want to propose something like this!
We have enough laws on the books that are not being enforced , puppy mills still thrive, Americans should have the right to breed healthy dogs in the home all recognized breeds of dogs we have today were bred and raised by private breeders to a set standard in their private homes and estates
Please vote no. I am a small breeders whose dogs are raised in my home. They are treated as well or better than a lot of children. This law would force me to put them in a kennel. This law will not get rid of puppy mills but encourage them. For the well being of our animal friends, please vote NO!
As a home breeder, I love and care for my pets as members of my family. This bill will only give more power to the puppy mills who mistreat their animals.
Senator Santorum - we highly respect most of your decisions, however this one is aimed at the wrong people. The home breeders I know are much more conscientious, educated and responsible than large scale breeders.
I have been showing and raising rabbits for 9 years now, and I think that it is the best thing that has ever happend to me. I have been trying to improve the breed of Netherland Dwarfs for all of this time and there are 1000's of breeders that do this and they also work on temperment while they are doing this. It only helps the breed and many other breeds of rabbits at the same time.
I have been a in home breeder for 12yrs and love everone of my dogs like I do my kids. They are raised with heat/air in my home. Never neglected for any reaseon. I would never want to buy a puppy from a puppy mill that is never handled and pickedup ever hr of the day and its parents don't even know anything but raising puppis.. All my customers talk about how well socilized my babies are and how loved they are, not how many dogs I have and how filthy their enviroment was...So why would you do away with the perfect in home breeding programs and resort to those who only make money off their dogs!!!!!!Please oppose this Bill, it only hurts those who really care!!!SMALL IN HOME BREEDERS!!
I strongly believe that the law makers need to go after the puppy mills instead of the home breeders. We put alot of love and time into the puppies that are born in our home instead of in dirty kennels.
If the goal is to produce Quality Akc registered dogs then maybe you should re-evaluate your position and focus on the puppymills who are always coming up with mixed breed dogs (as accidents) and keep their dogs in deporable conditions. I keep my dogs in my home they are Pets. I breed to produce quality pets now the last time I checked that was the purpose of a dog to be man's best friend. Who are you to tell the public that they can only buy a puppy from someone who mass produces animals. This is outrageous. Protect the pets not the people who do this as a sole source of income!!! Quit lining the pockets of people who don't share the same love and respect of animals as us responsible breeders and pet owners!!!
