This bill makes me sick, to think we are called the land of the free, when we are now "Big Brothers" sheep. AKC is going to end up having to shut down/file bankrupty if they pass this bill, seriously they are trying to PUNISH the responsiable/reputable/et hical breeders and making the Puppy/Kitten Mills rewards, which is SICK! You just know PETA is involved as well, sick Cult they are..This bill should not pass, it's not right and it takes away our freedoms even more. Our government has so much more worries out there then this, BRING OUR TROOPS HOME, STOP THE WAR is MORE IMPROTANT then spending our tax dollars on this crap!!!!!

We can't imagine not delivering our pups in our bedroom and moving them to our living room when they are a month old. If this bill passes, we may have to give up breeding if we have to place all our fur kids, young and old alike, in a "facility" that satisfies the USDA.

Puppy mills are what everybody is fighting against. Nobody wants a puppy from a place like that. Breeders give the attention needed to raise a happy, healthy puppy. Not to mention, with all the personal attention of a breeder the animals have less chance of having genetic defects because we watch for things like this and know how to recognize it. Puppy mills do not have the time, money, or energy to care for animals as small breeders do. We care about what we are doing and do it well. If you have ever been to a puppy mill you know it is not healthy. Especially if you have been to the SPCA. They are already overcrowded. In my neighborhood they are always talking about how they are understaffed. They don't talk about the horrable conditions but i have seen it. I bought my first pet there and she had parvo when i brought her home. I nursed her back to health and am now entirely opposed to any USDA or government approved animal facility. Animals need LOVE to grow up happy and healthy.

This will be the end to a quality, well bred dog. I refuse to send my precious cavaliers out to a "Kennel Enviroment" secluded from the rest of my family. Not only will this make for a poorly socialized parent, grandparent and great grandparent but the end result will be the unsocialized, skiddish puppy. Exactly what we are trying to eliminate. Not to mention I feel it is inhumane. If you want to see an animal in a cage go to the zoo, OR YOUR LOCAL approved PUPPY MILL. This bill only makes it easier for the puppy mills. Those of us who spend countless hours socializing, grooming, training, showing, health testing and bettering the breed will have been spent in vain. I dare you to tell me the way I raise my dogs in unfit and unsanitary. You find me a "USDA APPROVED" puppy mill that even comes close to the enviroment my dogs live in. It can't be done. My dogs live in my home enjoy my yard and pool and family vacations. They are given top quality food, vitamins and health care. They are health tested annualy. Not to mention they are bathed every other week, bedding and blankets are washed every other day. Puppies leave my home well socialized, vet checked, litter box trained and the most important healthy and to breed standard in every way. I think we need to take a look at the true purpose of this bill,WHOS POCKETS WILL BE LINED!!!!

Please don't stop hobby/show breeders from providing excellent homes to people who don't want to buy from puppy mills. This bill will only fill up SPCA and create more dogs to breed in the puppy mills leaving out the home breeders who love, potty break, and spend the extra time and money to make sure people are getting the best dog they deserve.I love to hear my adoptive parents call and tell me what a great job I have done with their puppy if I was a big kennel or had the USDA here I wouldn't have the time to spend with these animals. We think as these little fur babies as our children, this is our family that you want to USDA and inspect. Besides why aren't isn't the USDA checking out some of these kennels more often they smell their animals aren't loved or played with, they are in little cages all day long. I have seen them in my eyes these are puppy mills that should be cleaned up or shut down.

This will hurt many good dog breeders! Puppy mills are the worst place to get a puppy. They are not bred properly and are kept in aweful conditions; sending unhealthy puppies out to the public with expensive vet bills to maintain a somewhat healthy puppy. You may say that there will be laws to prevent such conditions; however like anything else, these things fall by the waist side. Fact is known that the laws to protect these conditions are now in place; yet if you visit the puppy mills, they are running them unsuitable to any animal. Where's the law now? So how can you say the law will protect! JOKE!!!!!!!

I feel this bill is unfair, and it was not thought out! You need to leave the breeding to RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS! I think you should spend time in stopping Puppy Mills, and people like the one I am about to mention Country Acres Dog Boarding & Grooming 7581 M-78 Hwy Bellevue Mi, her number is in the book it is under the kennel name, but she breeds all breeds and any breeds I have seen cocker spaniel puppies sell then a week or two later she has signs out for labs ect! that is who you need to stop, and she isn't into show, she thinks this how you make money! I wouldn't pass the bill and waste the money on it. I would go after the people like that!

Do not pass this Bill. Hobby breeders that take the time to properly care for their dogs, show them, train them, do health testing and properly breed their dogs are the ones that will be hurt by this bill. It is the puppy mills that will be promoted and this bill will have the opposite effect. As an American I have a right to own a pure bred dog, show it, train it and breed it responsibly. This bill is a direct violation of my rights. I am shocked and disappointed in the AKC for supporting this bill.
#3447

Renea Crowell said 08/09/05, 7:29 am (verified)
This bill is ridiculous. We have the right to breed our show dogs and improve the breeds we have chosen. Figure out how to get rid of puppy mills and leave good breeders alone. Puppy mills are the cause of 90% of bad dogs and temperment problems. AKC registers all the puppy mills they claim to do checks on them, why are there so many unhealthy kennels?
#3446

Angela Maynard said 08/09/05, 6:59 am (verified)
Until the government can ensure that every state has a well equipt ASPCA and can help with the bad treatment of animals it has no place tryign to pass a law that is for the soul purpose to help the violators of animal rights, as most puppy mills and kennels like puppy mills are in areas that do not have a local ASPCA. THis is a violation on everyones rights on were they can purchase or breed an animal that they have paid for.
#3445

John Dancho said 08/09/05, 6:21 am (verified)
Please do not pass this bill. It violates my rights as an American citizen to enjoy my dogs in my home, show and breed from time to time. I am shocked and very disappointed in the AKC and their support of this bill. I am now looking into other registries who support and appreciate their medium sized home breeders. I show and breed a couple litters a year and my puppies have provided many people with wonderful, healthy and well adjusted pets that have brought them years of love and companionship. I also believe that all the people who have bought their beloved pest from home breeders should have the right to choose to buy their pets from them, rather than a huge puppy mill where the puppies have not been ajusted to life in a home and as part of the family. I would not want a puppy mill bred dog who has not been socialized with people inside a home. Please vote no and help us retain our rights as Americans to enjoy our hobbies. This bill is just the first step from radical groups like Peta and HSUS in totally eliminating pets. You would think they would get a life and worry about more important issues, like helping fellow human beings, Money spent on destroying the lives of breeders/exibitors could feed hungry Americans, provide medicine and health care to those who cant afford it. We already have animal welfare laws and I do believe most home breeders are decent hard working people taking great care of their dogs. Thank you.

So tragic that the people affected most by this bill are the ones who care most about the animals. Those who give them a home environment and SOCIALIZATION! Those who will suffer most will be the dogs raised in a lesser environment with no socialization, afraid and unaware. Also affected will be those potential dog bite victims at the other end of those unsocialized and non family, or puppy mill raised animals. Sad indeed!
#3434

Everett Dees said 08/09/05, 12:05 am (verified)
This piece of legislation does not differentiate between care management issues for different species. This will involve even the smallest of home breeding situations and require them to meet commercial guidelines, which will be impossible for most. This will stretch USDA resources to the breaking point, when these hobby breeders organizations already have inspection and enforcement policies in place to protect their animals. This also is unfair to breeds that have 1-2 offspring per litter and would make continuing any quality breeding program entirely too expensive to also meet USDA requirements.

Every FAQ or advice on how to find a good breeder suggests looking for "raised underfoot" or "raised in a home setting." These are the first things I would look for before considering a breeder. Top ethical breeders must always hand raise. The idea that caging is better, is ludicrous and inhumane.

I am surprised that the Humane Society is supporting this type of action. I find nothing humane about it. As a pet owner and a person who has purchased pets from various breeders, I find it re-assuring in the descriptions that these animals have been raised in the homes with the breeders and their families. Why any one would want an animal any other way, is not understandable to me.I would be reluctant to purchase a pet raised in a cage unless I was going to keep it in a cage forever. There are caged pets and regular house raoming pets for a reason, and that is because that is how they are supposed to live. House roaming pets should be raised that way from the very beginning. Please do not pass this bill.
