I most certainly will NOT give ANY support on this issue whatsoever!! A lot of our service dogs come from being home-raised, and yes this includes POLICE dogs as well as service dogs for the handicapped. We should have this right to acquire a puppy from someone who takes pride in their stock. This bill is a total violation of our rights.
No support from me, I want a puppy thats raised in a loving home, not a horrible kennel. I would want a healthy well adjusted dog that gets the attention and care it needs.
This law should not be passed. Think of what it will do to our animals to not have haman contact all the time. They basically rescue animals from places like this and now they want us to put our beloved animals in places like that. This bill was not hought trough enough. I hope noone supports this.
I do not support this bill. I want to have the right to buy my puppies from a caring individual that has loved my puppy not someone who runs a puppy mill.
I believe that ordinary no wealthy people aught to have the right to enjoy hobby breeding and other such people aught to have the right to buy a home bred purebred.
We're facing terrorist threats on our food supplies and the USDA is going to spend tax dollars Federalizing those whose hobby is purebred cats and dogs? Oh please!
I do not agree with this bill. We must find a better solution. The USDA doesn't even regulate our food resources properly how will they be able to regulate the abuse and misuse of animals? Puppy Mills are completely wrong but there must be a better way.
The AKC, PETA, Doris Day Animal Fund and HSUSA must come up with a better way to take down puppy mills. This proposal can only hurt those who are responsible and caring breeders. This proposal will hurt ALL dog breeds, not just the breeders who own hounds and hunting animals that PETA and the HSUSA have a personal itch for. Educate yourself before you jump on the "politically correct" band wagon.
I do not supprt this bill. There has to be a better way to go after the puppy mills and back yard breeders without harming the people who breed pets that they geniunely love and care about.
This idea to have quality puppies mass produced is insane. Puppies need individual, loving care to socialize them. The first 8 weeks is very important to the emotional health of the puppy. They cannot be raised like a bunch of laboratory rats and have the emotional health to become well adjusted, trustworthy family members.
This bill is far too ambiguous and poorly written to deserve AKC's support. It certainly does not help shut down puppy mills and does NOT have my support.
Poorly written as it
stands, this MUST be
defeated. As a serious, dedicated
dog lover, this bill
could ruin breeds that have been around for thousands
of years.
Maybe increasing the criteria to be in a goverment positon should be put to the vote... this is the worse thing you could think to do to small breeders/rescue groups. Instead of stopping puppy mills...you are now giving them a license to continue the horrible abuses they do to aminals. What are you thinking?
I appreciate the reasons behind wanting to close down puppy mills, but this bill has nothing to do with puppy mills rather it will endanger the good healthy breeding of purebred dogs by people who care about the continuation and improvement of a particular breed.
We have enough unenforced animal laws on the books now. This sounds like another one. Where is the money going to come from for more USDA inspectors? I think that money needs to be better spent.
I do not think the paws bills should be past. This is not fair to the ani,als we are talking about why have them USDA kenneled and not have people see the love for the breed or who the parents are and how they are raised. Paws is only out to kill mans best friend our dogs.
Please do not pass this bill. We need to focus on shutting down puppy mills. Please do not pass this.. Reputable breeders who put the breeds best interest at heart should not be hurt. Breeders who breed for the right reasons to improve our breed need to be kept around. If there are no reputable breeders (who also show their breeding stock) we will fastly lose some of our very best friends, our dogs and furkids and the breed standards that we have come to love will deminish as well!. Please do not pass this bill!

If you pass this, you will give a green light to puppy mills that have puppies that grow up with nothing but PROBLEMS! I am a small breeder, and pride myself on raising happy, HEALTHY puppies
Please vote NO !!! PAWS 2005, SB1139/HB2669. This type of legislation will not stop the puppy mills and backyard breeders. It will only punish responsible small hobby breeders. This really will not fix anything!
This PAWS Bill is absolutely stupid. I think responsible breeders UNLIKE PUPPY MILLS who sell strictly for the money should be stopped NOT people trying to better the breeds!!
these laws should not be against responsible breeders and owners. you should create laws requiring all breeders to have sires and dams ofa cert. (eyes, hips, elbows) to help improve the breeds, anyone who does not and still breeds should be fined 500.00 per puppy! that will help improve breeds and give the animal control depts around the country and the humane society more revenue for worth while causes by reducing the number of animals they have to care for, because back yard breeders will not be able to breed for profit or keep thier puppy mills running.
I have been a responsible dog breeder for 18 years and we do not need this type legislation. The puppy mills will continue regardless of such legislation.
I am strongly opposed,I in NO WAY support over breeding or mass production of puppies. I have only bred twice in 8 yrs. I feel this law would violate my right to privacy!
