I am appaulled that we have homless people walking our streets hungry children and overpopulated schools and this is the issue my congress is choosng to adress. There are so many mor eimportant issues to address in this country and this is what is chosen? It is a waste of my tax dollars and only promotes the puppy mill and unethical backyard breeder. The ramifications of this bill will be staggering to our economy. Puppy mills will increase and breeders will go underground. I persoanlly am outraged that A.K.C. would even consider backing this bill. It defies everything I have ever been taught about A.K.C. and ethical breeding. We the small hobby breeders are the ones who keep the breed standards and breed for soundness and quality. As past and future exibitor, I have to say if this bill is passed I will no longer wish to be affilited with the American Kennel Club if they are supporting this kind of action. To anyone who has ears let them her this is a violation of our constitutional rights. Our loving pets who are also our breeding dogs and live eat sleep and work with us, are not livestock to be numbered and hearded like cattle. Please do not support this bill and tell a friend!!

Including small hobby breeders will not improve the welfare of dogs. In my State we are already Lic. by the Ga Dept of Agriculture and inspected without your rules that would isolate the dgos from humans. Mine are born and raised inside our home with family contact.

Pasting more words here and there on legislation in the books since the sixties is like sticking turkey feathers on an ugly ducklying. No swan will emerge.

I join in opposition to this bill which expands government meddling in human rights; I also reject the claimed support for the Animal Welfare Act, which is *also* an improper intrusion of government.

This bill will prevent me to raise my kittens in a loveing enviroment and can very well cause a high mortality rate in healthy puppies and kittens due to the fact we won't be able to raise them in our homes. Please do not support this bill. Would YOU want to raise your kids in another building? NO so why would we want to raise our puppies and kittens in a building other than our homes. Only comercial breeders do this. You want to stop pet overpopulation regulate them not the breeders that produce few litters a year.

This bill only hurts pets, show breeders and responsible hobby breeders, not puppie mills who already isolate their animals because they have too many to properly socialize and give the love they need. ledgislationSB1139/HB2669 will infringe on our rights as private citizen to own and/or sell dogs. #869

Cindy Grube said 06/10/05, 6:01 pm (verified)
This bill will hurt the responsible breeders who care about the health and socialization of the kittens or puppies they produce and do nothing to reduce the number of puppy mills or improve the conditions in puppy mills. This bill will force small breeders to quit breeding and only create more puppy mills. It will destroy the cat fancy.

Please stop this Bill, I do not agree with what you are doing, You need to go after the real thing "PUPPY MILLS" not hobby breeders like us that show their dogs, we breed for the STANDAR of the BREED, and back up our dogs if there is a problem, in the other hand Puppy mills only do it for profit and do not even care what they breed, or care for thier dogs.

PLEASE stop this Bill.Responsible petowners/Breeders work hard to breed the BEST of their chosen breed not MANY different Breeds that are not socialized and are bred purely for profit! PLEASE, I am all for going after the "Puppy Mills" and for needless breedings soley for profit not ever thinking of the welfare of the Dogs. Most of the breeders/show owners I know have pets that are treated as "children" and raised as such. Dont let these radical animal rights activists take away a privilege that we deserve . Do Not pass PAWS 2005.

This will do nothing to stop puppy mills or large scale breeders, it will only hurt the small hobby breeders. Please stop this invasion of our private property rights! There are many other areas that our tax dollars should be used! Ultimately the money to fund these inspections will come from each and every tax payer in this country! We should be scaling back on government not creating more big government regulations!

This bill will not touch the real problem. Hobby breeders comitted to their breed, who do genetic testing and attempt to produce quality healthy dogs, being careful with the homes they are sold to, will have to shut down. All that will remain are the puppy millers producing inferior, unhealthy dogs that have been raised in cages and treated like chickens or pigs. This will actually perpetuate the problem because they do not limit the registration papers on their product, so then anyone can breed a dog, and not know or care what they are doing.
#844

Janet Robinson said 06/10/05, 3:14 pm (verified)
Please pull this bill - go after the puppy mills and not use breeders of top quality pure bred dogs who hoave had all their health checks done and raised in home envirements. The USDA has enough to do to secure our country/airports etc.from drugs.

This bill will create nothing but problems, especially for the reputable hobby breeders. This bill does not support the welfare of the animals if the USDA dictates that breeders must keep their dogs outdoors. Not me!

The current laws need to be enforced. This legislation will not stop the large puppy mills. Legislation needs to be created and enforced that stop the large puppy mills that force animals to live in inhumane conditions for the sake of making money without regard to the sensibilities of the animals.

It is a shame when our politicians can only read and see green, they attempt to pass laws which are already on the books, if they would take that same stance on enforcing that which is already in place rather then adding more confusion on top of it, we as a people might be able to work together for the betterment of the animals. Please remove this unneeded and completly unimformed bill from the table. And please seek true information from respectable breeders and those hobby breeders that DO care, rather then the puppymills that only seek more money at the expense of those poor animals.

PUPPY MILLS ARE ALL USDA LICENCED.WE DO NOT WANT A LIVSTOCK LICENCE WE DONT RAISE CHICKENS COWS PIGS ETC.IT WILL ONLY MAKE PUPPY STRONGER BECAUSE IT WILL PUT THE CARING .AND SHOW BREEDERS OUT OF BUSINESS.IT IS A INSULT TO US AS GOOD BREEDERS DOING THE RIGHT THING.WE WONT RAISE OUR DOGS IN WIRE PENS IN A KENNEL.LIKE CHICKENS .SO PLEASE VOTE NO TO THE BILL. IT WILL BE THE END TO BREEDERS WHO LOVE AND RAISE DOGS IN THERE HOMES.

This law will only hurt the responsible hobby breeders, and help the puppy mills.Does something sound wrong here? The puppy mills will be producing even more puppies,to keep up with the public demand,as there wont be as many quality, socialized, puppie s available,if the hobby breeders are restricted on their litters.Look at the whole picture, before passing this law.

I've been fostering the results of their breeding and shoving meds down their little throats because of their non care and cruelty to these animals. Go ater the bad guys.PLEASE, educate yourself. Please do not pass this bill. It has AR written all over it. How are you giong to explain your actions to the blind who rely on their guide dogs to be able to live any kind of active life and those who rely on service dogs just to be able to exist from day to day. Cause the responsible breeders to give up and stop breeding and where do you find the quality animals to fill these needs, fill the security and lae enforcements and military requirements and the companions who keep meny elderly and shut-in company. This bill is very bad. Again, please do not pass this bill.
#809

Beth L Brock said 06/10/05, 4:39 am (verified)
This proposed bill is ludicrous. It will certainly hurt those of us that are small hobby kennels and who really care about the dogs that we breed. We as breeders do more testing and behavior assessments on out pups than the puppy mills do. I think that the government should really look at shutting down the puppy mills and not worry about someone selling 25 dogs. We get regulated enough we do not need more.

This bill makes it impossible for responsible breeders who are trying to maintain genetic diversity in their stock, they are proposing limiting breeders to only 5 females or else risk being liscenced, and this does not make for a healthy breeding program. I support enforcing the exsisting laws and targeting those few who are really the problem, not the hobby breeder/exhibitor.
