Earlier this morning it was announced that the Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres had agreed to a deal that would send Jake Peavy to Chicago for (reportedly) Aaron Poreda, Clayton Richard, and players to be named later. The only hang up preventing consummation of the deal is approval from Jake Peavy.

As a White Sox fan, I value the contributions that Aaron Poreda and Clayton Richard have made to the organization, and I have hopes for both of their futures either in Chicago or elsewhere. That I am throwing my full support behind the White Sox quest to attain Jake Peavy should not in any way be seen as a disapproval of Poreda, Clayton, or any others involved in the trade.

But Jake Peavy, pure and simple, is one of the five best pitchers in baseball. With a righty-lefty 1-2 punch of Peavy and Buehrle, the White Sox will be in a great position to defend their AL Central crown and bring a second World Series title to the Windy City this decade.

I am calling on all White Sox fans to show Jake Peavy some South Side love and help convince him to accept a trade to the White Sox. Whether or not the signatures on this petition will make a difference, I don't know...but it can't hurt. And what I do know is that the foundation of our 2005 World Series team is still intact and this may be our last hurrah with that core. Let's give them one more chance for World Series glory with one of the best starting pitchers of this decade.

Come to Chicago Jake. Give yourself a chance to postseason glory and give yourself the opportunity to become a star in a major media market. Most importantly, give yourself a chance to feel the love from grizzled, dedicated, and knowledgeable baseball fans (unlike those on the North Side of our city) who will appreciate every pitch you throw and cheer you into the playoffs and beyond.

Where else will you get that right now?
