I would like to state that the conditions at Petco are inhumane. Lets start off with the fish tanks. You wont always see this, but every time I go I see a few dead fish. The goldfish tank is worse, it is filthy and theres a huge pile of fish corpses at the bottom. There are fish eating fish and corpses. The betta fish are kept in inhumanely small jars and their water is swarming with feces.

Now lets look at the reptile tanks. This Makes ME SICK. In the leopard gecko tank, the first thing i noticed was a pile of feces... ick! They are on sand, which will impact them because leopard geckos lick things in their environment naturally. Even though they come from deserts, its more like slate than sand. And i noticed there was algae in the water bowl, that freaking messed up. Here is a letter sent by customers to petco

" I, as a customer, have noticed some issues with your reptile’s health. I am writing this letter because I was recently at one of your stores and the worker there said that sand was bad and that it was a policy and that they had to use sand and they had no choice on what they could use as a substrate. Having sand, as a leopard gecko’s terrain/substrate is a very bad choice, this is mainly because sand could cause leopard geckos to become impacted. The result of an impaction is most likely to lead to death. This is a well known fact that sand is a very bad choice. Even though leopard geckos come form south-eastern Afghanistan, most of Pakistan, and north-west India and they live in the rocky and dry grassland regions of these countries. Also they only live for about 4 to 5 years in the wild. But in captivity they can live normally 15 to 20 years. So I as a consumer feel the need to bring this to your attention and ask that your policy regarding the use of sand be discontinued and to improve the health of your leopard geckos. Your prompt attention and reply to my concerns will be greatly appreciated."

Other examples of improper care are the iguanas. They are fed only dry diet. The ball pythons and rainbow boas are kept way to dry, causing them to be unable to shed. I have seen the same rainbow boa trying to shed for 3 months!!!!! thats insane. I cannot stand how everything in petco is on sand, woodchips or coconut husks(only acceptable at times).

I hope this petition has shown you the evil of petco's inhumane conditions, please sign and distribute this petition!
