Dogs get like this because of the way they were raised or the way their parents were bred. If your'e gonna discriminate this breed then you might as well ban all other fighting dogs, then you'd really be asking for it.
The 'pit-bull' is the most common house pet in S. Africa--it is American aggression that is the problem---maybe we should ban Americans?! To murder someone who is innocent of any wrongdoing is evil, especially if that someone is a species other than human. How can these people let the war-mongers kill their loved ones?! Fight back! A silent revolution of mass civil disobedience--just don't live by "their" insane "laws."
thats pretty messed up that they want to ban a dog {by standers} is not the #1 most aggressive dog but most of thier owners are.My question is WHAT the HELL is the difference between a pitbull and a shar pia NOT A DAMN THING exempt for thier wrinkles. you never here of a shar pia dog bit.ITS THE F@#@$ owners
Banning a certain breed deemed to be naturally aggressive will solve nothing. The blame lies with the owners. The only thing this will create is the use of a new breed for dog fights, etc.
Somrtimes laws are the only thing that get our attention! These owners of these innocent animals may actually need a heads up! If you have to move away from home or change your treatment of these awesome dogs, then perhaps thats all that catchs on! however i support this effort! Heres my john henry.
"There are no bad dogs, only bad owners." Barbara Woodhouse. BSL does nothing but punish the innocent while the TRULY guilty, the "owners" who don't care enough about their dog(s) to accept the responsibility of training them consistently and positively and, most importantly, socializing them effectively, are given a slap on the wrist. Anyone who raises a vicious dog should be heavly fined and be forbidden to ever own any animal of any kind. They are clearly not up to the task.
Why would they do something so aweful to cute lovable pitbull?. It's horrible. Don't they understand it's not the dog's fault. It's their owner's that caused this problem. I say arrest them. And the dogs can always be trained back to benig nice.
Yet another place that government is overstepping its bounds. If the law passes, they should at least find a no-kill shelter in another area so that sufficient homes can be found.
This is an outrage. I have known many of very sweet pit bulls. The problems lies with ignorant owners who do not know how to properly care and love for this breed of dog.
The problem here is with the owners, not the dogs, and that is what we need to fix, not kill a bunch of innocent dogs. I grew up with a pitbull, and they are wonderful dogs, they just need to be given the same chance as the other breeds.
As usual government wants to not focus on the real crime - the people who mistreat/abuse these dogs. Get tougher on these kinds of cruel people! I cannot believe the public would allow innocent dogs to be euthanized!
This just shows peoples' ignorance! You cannot condemn the breed; these dogs are made to be mean by some owners, but certainly not all of them! Education and cracking down on issues such as illegal dog fights are the key to eliminating the problems with these dogs.
Number One bite case in our area is the Lab. Should this be the next breed to be restricted by law? I suggest programs to spay & neuter and educate the owners as well as the public. BSL does not work!
It is the hype that has given them a bad rap. During world war 2, a oit bull was on patriotic posters used as an icon of strength, courage and loyalty. I forget his name, but this dog used to go into all the battles running alongside the troops, and on one occasion single-handedly scared a group of enemy troops into surrendering, holding them at bay until american troops arrived shortly afterward. It was these traits the outcasts of society and criminals sought to posess through their canines, because they did not posess these admirable traits themselves. This is not a breed-specific problem, this is a socio-economical fault, a deviance of morality, and a lack of conscience.
It is said that 80% of our behavior isdecided by our surroundings and upbringing...why would animals be affected by these same factors? They do not have the intellectual capacity to decide their actions/reactions in complex fashions in the way that humans do, so basically they are a product of their environment almost completely. If they are brought up lovingly, they will be magnificent pets, yet keep in mind...in most cases abused dogs do not revert to the cruelty of their masters. Many times, when they are removed from hostile abusive environments, they are just as loving and loyal as if a harmful hand had never touched them! I have three pitbulls and they are the most loyal and affectionate companions I have ever had!
The problem with breed legislation is that the problem is never because of a breed, it is because of the way that breed is viewed and/or treated. The problematic pit bulls are the ones raised as fighting dogs, attack dogs, etc. If they are well bred and unabused they will not be a vicious dog, but a loving friend. Do not kill them just because people target them. Punish the people who are at fault.
they are sweet caring loyal pets, it's all about the OWNER! even stupid people can teach a poodle how to attack if they want! how ignorant to blame the dogs!
Pit bulls are loyal, loving, anf very obediant. It's not their fault that some of them are owned by cruel stupid people who teach them to attack humans. Save the pit and get rid of the idiots!
I used to own a pit bull/boxer mix. She was one of the sweetest dogs I've ever owned! It's not the breed that's the problem, it's the socialization or lack there of and the training.
Pitbulls, like all dogs, are not born aggressive. It is the treatment they receive from humans which determines the temperament they grow up with. So, the solution is to stop the barbaric training and use of pitbulls in animal fights - prosecute those people instead!
Pit bulls are not dangerous. The people who tease them and torture them while they are puppies to make them aggressive are the ones who are dangerous to both animals, as they have absolutely no respect for them and therefore should not be allowed to own a dog, and to humans, for they can easily use the dog as a weapon against a person
there are no bad dogs, there are no bad breeds, just as there are no bad races.there are only humans continue to exploit and corrupt an innocent animals most basic instincts.
strengthen the laws against animal cruelty, against dog fighting rings.
Do not ban a wonderful breed of dog on mere heresay. All creatures (both human animals and non-human animals) deserve to be evaluated on their own merits as an individual, not as a breed, race, gender, or "class"
Please remember that no dog is born mean or malicious. Its humans that train dogs to fight, injure, and kill. These dogs deserve a happy and healthy life and they deserve it just as much as any other species of dog.
Do a little research on the breed. AT WORST, some like to be "king dog". No pit bull goes after humans UNLESS TRAINED TO DO SO--unfortunately, LOTS of people out there train them to do just that. Ban those people, not the dogs!
Breed bans are not the answer. And euthanasia? Doesn't that mean 'mercy killing' essentially? Where is the mercy in that? Stronger enforcement of laws against negligent and irresponsible owners is needed, and more education and understanding about these sweet, loyal dogs!
How can you ban a species? That's like a step off of racism...let's ban minorities next?! Denver and Aurora have some sick people making their decisions.
