How sad that such a blanket law could have been passed. Animals that have done nothing are being put to sleep, or they are asking their owners to leave. It is unfortunate that people with alternate agendas than pet care, come into posession of cars. It does make me wonder whats next and will it be limited to dogs? Its like a murmur from 30 years ago. It has me curious as to how many other foolish laws they have on the books. As a minority, I now have concerns about traveling through Denver. If they can enact such an ignorant law, I can only imagine what else they might have as laws.
Pit bulls are just like any other dog. Its the owners who make them mean. If you did the same thing to a collie it would react the same mean way. The pitbull has just been unfortunatly choosen by these aweful humans who turn them into money makers and have no hearts at all. I say we put these humans down instead of the dogs!
As a parent, I try to raise my children to be un-biaes individuals, who do not judge people or things by stereotypical things like race or creed. Now I must explain to them that their beloved family pet is condemned, not because of her own actions, but because of the way she looks. What an example you are setting. I am embarrassed to call Denver an American city.
Pitbulls in my experience have been the sweetest and most lovable & attentive dogs imaginable. My Chihuahua & Min. Dachshund scare the beejeevies out of my bully.
I think this law is ridiculous. I can't imagine having to relocate just to have to keep a member of my family with me. I feel so bad for the Pitbull owners in Denver. My thoughts are with you. Something has to be done.
To the city of Denver: Please stop killing innocent family pets. It will be a sad day when the city of Denver has murdered all the pitbulls within it's city limits and you will still see dog attack stories, just not pitbull attack stories. Who will be next on the city's list? Rottie owners and dobie owners beware...your family pet could be next for the city of Denver's killing machine.
I realize that everyone's memory over time becomes selective, but America relished, loved and adored the pitbull. The first dog to get an award during WWI, was a pitbull. America's fave dog, Petie in The Little Rascalz, was non-other than a pitbull. So was Chance in Homeward Bound. Why turn our backs unto a once loved and respected dog and now hunt it down like some .... Arrogant/ignorant politicians frustrate me!
People hate the breed out out ignorance and media hype. My experiences with this breed has been wonderful. They are the most loving & people oriented dog I have ever met. As with any dog proper training, socialization, and not allowing your dog to roam free are essential in prevention of any incidents from occurring.
Call it what you will, but what is happening in Denver is nothing less than media inspired genocide. My Pits are like my children and would willingly lay down their lives for me and my family. To allow them to be taken away and murdered simply because of their breed is barbaric!
My experience with Pit Bulls has been rewarding. I have never seen a more loving creature. Prior to getting involved with animal rescue I had no clue, only what the media fed me. Along the way I was educated by other rescue workers and Pit Bull owners. The ones that raise Pit Bulls to fight or are abusive to them should be euthanized not the Pit Bulls. Aggressivness is found in all breeds. Why is this judgement put on a Pit Bull. Politicians and society needs to educate themselves on the Pit Bull. Instead of making laws to ban Pit Bulls and murdering them you should be working on laws that protect the Pit Bull or any animal from abuse from a human being.
I think the most aggressive dog I've had contact with was my grandmother's schnauzer!! Why not ban THOSE? How irresponsible to ban a dog based on it's breed, not it's actions!
what a crock of dog crap. i've seen alot of mean dogs in my life and not one of them was a pit! my dogs best friend was a pit! so boo to the bullies
FIGHT THE BAN IN GEORGIA!!!My American Pitbull Terrier is wonderful around kids, grandparents, and my dad who has been recovering from a transplant. My 10 month old AMERICAN PITBULL TERRIER is the BEST thing that's ever happened to me! FIGHT THE BAN IN GEORGIA TOO! I live in Savannah, GA we need the support!
I can't believe that educated people are making such drastic laws without first learning all the facts. I am, just recently, the proud owner of an american pitbull and she has been one of the best puppies i have ever owned. in my research into this breed I have come to the conclusion that BSL is a stupid answer to this problem. Punish the deed, not tbe breed! Find the ignorance that raises these animals into the aggressive dogs you claim them all to be! How can you euthanize a dog when all they have done is attack you with kisses? I can't imagine the heartless human doing this!
I have been involved in Pit Bull rescue and protection for years-- they are some of the most gentle and child-friendly animals that I have had contact with. Please stop killing pit bulls-- it's a fear of the unknown in combination with negative media-- not pit bulls themselves. So many of these animals have a lot to share with their potential owners-- please give people the option to love and care for them.
We are the proud owner of an American Staffordshire. We are in control of our dog at all times, as all pet owners should be. Implementation and enforcement of safety laws would be much more helpful in the prevention of dog bite incidents than BSL. When one breed is banned, another breed will take it's place. For example, when "pit bulls" are banned, and another breed, say German Shepherds, replace "pits", in the statistics of bite incidents, will they also be banned? This ban is based on faulty logic. Require owners to attend obediance classes, education on dog behavior, enforce leash laws...many of these strategies would be much more helpful, could be implemented on all breeds, and would greatly reduce bite incidents. Instead local government officials have decided that a particular appearance, head shape, ear shape, indicates that an animal is vicious. If humans applied this same principle to the human race, it would be the equivalent of racial profiling, which is a questionable policy as well. A person should not be judged by another based on the shape of his nose or head and this same principle should apply to dogs as well. To educated and responsible owners, we see the parallel, the unfairness of having our pets, our children's pets, our friends, "profiled", judged, and either murdered, or given away to rescues. Bless rescuers and anyone else who is helping out. I will make sure to take Denver off the list of places I would like to vacation at, move to, or buy from. And I will be spreading the word that this city implements unfair practices and laws upon their citizens.
I am a proud owner of a American Staffordshire Terrier, she is a beautiful well behaved animal, she has been socialized since she was a young pup and we still train and socialize her at 16 months old, you can NOT judge all dogs by what some people have done to their animals. You people need to get a grip on what is really going on, learn more about the animals, and it's NOT always drug people and out laws whom own these for pets, my husband and I are a working family, my husband has a PhD, now people please consider what your doing, taking well behaved dogs away from families who have taken the time to train their pets correctly are being treated unfairly... it's not fair to them either, we feel for the ones whom have been hurt, but also consider the people who have put time and love into their animals...
This is a terrible idea. Are you going to ban teen age boys from highschools next. They bring guns to school and kill other students and teachers. Sound unconstitutional to anyone else?
I raised four pit bulls and raised my son around them. Pits are just as loving and caring as my labradors. It is the owner people, not the dog! This has become racism in its finest form!
I watch pets for a living and have several pit bulls as clients. They are sweet, gentle, loving creatures when raised in a loving enviornment. Maybe the powers that be should work on people who turn the critters bad, giving jail time. A good solution would be if you have your dog trained in a way that it hurts or kills people you can go on trial for murder because if they didn't train these dogs to behave this way, there would be no problem, so if the dog, due to owner training or neglect, kills a person, the owner should be considered the murder and suffer the consiquences. Stiffer penilties for owners is the solution, not breed specific killings!! This is just like saying a certain race of person killed twice in our city so everyone of that race should get the death penility because the whole race must be bad!! There would be no people left!! Come on people, we're in the 21st century, lets show that we as a people have actually learned something from our past mistakes!!!
What is wrong with you people in Denver? This reminds me of the Salem Witch Hunts where people were killed because they were suspected of being a witch.
Air up there in Denver must be a little short, huh? Can't think of any other stupid, STUPID reason to kill animals just because they are a specific breed ... remind me to stay clear of Denver, I may be targeted as an undesirable and euthanized!
Segregating so called bully breeds is irrational. An owner of a shitzu can raise the dog to be mean. It is all in how u raise your dog. I know of a few freinds that have the nicer and more well trained Pits than some of these people walkin with their untrained dogs
I had a akita mixed with a pitbull, but my mom told me not to tell anyone it was half pit, this needs to stop, they are loving caring dogs unless you train them to be bad
Pit bulls are smart, funny, loving great dogs - please don't outlaw the breed. Al breeds attack - it's just the pits that make the news in this city. I love my dog so much.
This is horrible, horrible legislation. You have absolutely no sympathy for people who take good care of their dogs and love them like children. This is the meanest, worst piece of legislation ever. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. If I was at a meeting where this was discussed there would have been fists flying. You would never, ever be able to take my beloved dog from me. You would have to kill me first. I have no respect for any of you.
I READ THIS IN MY FLORIDA PAPER THIS MORNING AND I AM DISGUSTED ... THE FACT THAT THE CITY OF DENVER COULD DO SOMETHING SO NARROW MINDED AS TO KILL ALL PIT BULLS,EVEN IF THEY JUST LOOK LIKE A PIT BULL IS INHUMANE AND THE PEOPLE WHO PASSED THE LAW SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.WE HAVE 4 DOGS,1 IS A BULL MASTIFF WHICH HAS A BIG BLOCK HEAD AND THOSE BULL EARS.SHE IS THE MOST LOVING DOG WITH US AND THE GRANDCHILDREN THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN..YOU WOULD WANT TO KILL HER BECAUSE SHE LOOKS LIKE SHES A PIT BULL..THE PEOPLE THAT TRAIN DOGS TO ATTACK ARE RESPONSILBLE FOR THE WAY THE DOG WILL ACT.THOSE DOGS ARE NOT BORN TO ATTACK PEOPLE AND ANYONE WHO THINKS THAT IS JUST PLAIN STUPID.WHY DON'T YOU KICK THE PEOPLE OUT OF DENVER THAT HAVE THOSE TYPE OF DOGS.
YOU ARE STEREOTYPING AND BREED PROFILING..I WILL HANG THIS UP IN MY RV DEALERSHIP FOR ALL MY RV CUSTOMERS WHO TRAVEL AROUND THIS COUNTRY TO SEE.THIS IS WRONG
Okay, let them go ahead and ban Pit Bulls...
And Labs...
And Basset Hounds...
And green socks...
It all depends on how you keep your dog. Even the world's best dog breeder can have a puppy that turns into a torrential disaster if bought by the wrong person. And that's not just APBTs, Dobermans, Rottweilers, it's ANY breed.
There are many more good Pit Bulls then bad ones. The only 'bad' Pit I met was a puppy that barked ferociousy at another dog and tried to go for it. If you saw the owner's face, you could tell he wasn't going to do anything about it right away. When I grow up I'm going to have a Pit Bull no matter what. And I want them to be around long enough for it to be possible! I'm 12 now. So I have to wait for six more years to be an adult. Then I have to raise enough money...maybe one or two more years. But I have to get OTHER breeds before Pit Bulls because even though they're a very sweet breed, Pit Bulls just aren't starter dogs. So that means two more dogs, which is 15 or so more years.
I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG! *screams and rips out hair*
Many people are working, possibly even dedicating their lives to making sure American Pit Bull Terriers become a breed welcomed by the society. On another website there was this person who was walking his cheery Rottie just to have some person come out with a gun and say if he walked with him on the block again, they would shoot his dog. He called the police, and they just said to take another route. They would do the same with Pits and Chow Chows. Therefore, keeping the Pits alive is also connected to keeping the Rotties and Chows alive as well. Saving their reputations is a lot of work. So if this ban keeps up, it's bad news. For one thing, who says everybody's going to follow this law? There will always be people who breed and
Please think of all the responsible pit bull owners that work hard to keep this breed away from thoughtless criminals pass a bill making it harder on kennels to sell one of these wonderful dogs to the first person that comes along the breeder should be held some what accountable for selling one of his dogs to a criminal
Keeping dogs from attacking is the owner's responsibility and the person who is at risk of being attacked should not be doing anything to anger the dog in the first place. It's not teh breed's fault, its the so called "victim's" fault for provoking the dog. Even a poodle will attack if provoked.
It is insanely barbaric to pass a law banning an entire breed of dog. IF they were not meant to be here, they never would have been created.
Any dog has the potential to attack...
This is the newest media hot topic. Horribly, until the media finds another "hot topic" there will be many dogs who will pay with their lives. Stop this madness.
I work for a vet clinic and the pit bulls that come in are some of my favorite to work with. If they are loved, socialized they are the best pets. We have more small dogs quarintined for bitting than them.
I think that the ban against Pit Bulls is the dumbest thing I have ever heard when I woke up the morning of the ban in Denver it broke my heart to know that there were so many good hearted pit bulls that there familes had to give them up because of the humans that are trianing there pits to be evil. IT IS NOT THE ANIMAL IT IS THE OWNER. I know from personnal experience I own two pits. Please get this threw your head and stop baning these innocent animals
I think that it is wrong to singal out a single breed when no dog is naturally mean, it is all in how they are brought up. Any dog has it in them to be mean but it is not shown unless they are mistreated or brought up to think that is ok. Do not punish the animals, punish the humans who are teaching them to act like this and the ones who beat them and make them mean.
