This is one of the most rediculous narrow minded plans I think I have ever heard of. What will you ban next? Any dog that has a tendency to bite? Maybe all dogs 1 breed at a time? They call this AMERICA! We domesticated dogs so we are responsible for them, or apparently not, Ban kids from wearing their baseball hats backwards too!!
the hysteria surrounding pitbulls is beyond belief. these dogs are wonderful companions and wonderful pets. it is appalling that such ignorant people are elected and decide the fate of these sweet animals.
I have owned Pit Bulls in Aurora for 21 years, This is NOT a solution but another effort to NOT focus on the real problems at hand. Hold people accountable for their actions and dont punish the many GREAT owners with GREAT dogs. This would be just a tragedy, what will be next? Please do the right thing!
A breed specific ban is not the answer to the problem. In order to accomplish anything, you must punish the animal abusers. There are many friendly pit bulls and loving owners out there, don't punish them.
I am an Aurora resident, and being a tax paying citizen, I would much rather see city counsel spend my hard earned money trying to ban known sex offenders, child molesters, and murderers from our neighborhoods as these are the people that threaten the safety of our community NOT my dog!
The banning of pits is a pointless act made by over-opinionated individuals. The way I see it is if this ban was at all logical then we might as well ban human life from earth considering there are awful inhumane people out their that either harm or kill other humans in some way. Shoot, humans are even awful because they harm other species here on earth too, including euthanizing pit bulls! If only people could look at the BIG picture in this world and not dwell on little misshaps that happen all the time with every BREED and type of ANIMAL. Euthanize and ban only the animals that actually have harmed others, not those that haven't. People have to realize that you cannot GENERALIZE in this world, we will get no where and only harm others in another way, love is much too strong.
Blame on the present and past corupt owners not the ones that actually take the responsibility to love and nurture their pit bulls like they are their own kids...DO NOT pass this ban, its a disgrace !!!
I believe the owners are the ones to blam, not the breed! You can make any dog mean!! Don't punish those who love and care for their dogs, they are part of the family!
PLease help to stop this ban!!! My daughter and grandchild would be devastated to lose our pitbull because of other peoples stupidity. We need to Penalize the owners from training any dog to be mean. Paul
Please concentrate on the owners of these wonderful dogs. It is how they are trained that make them mean. My stepdaughter has a pit and is a lap dog, aliitle too big for that, but the most loveable animal. PLEASE RECONSIDER. SET FINES OR JAIL TIME FOR INDIVIDUALS THAT MISTREAT THESE POOR ANIMALS. Thank you for your time, Kathy
As a dog owner/parent, I fail to see any logic in this ban. If their solution is to punish loving pet owners instead of animal abusers, it's obvious these legislators are clueless. Next time put a little effort in your law making.
PitBulls are like ANY animal that is out there, THEY ALL BITE!!!
My pitbulls are my children, do you want your childern take away from you?! Sit and think about this, if they want to start banning specific breeds and all breeds BITE, pretty soon NO ONE is going to be allowed to have a dog or any animal as their family pet!!
Concentrate on the REAL ISSUES that Aurora is having, like shooting in the mall!
EVERYONE PLEASE HELP US STOP THIS BAN ON OUR ANIMALS, YOURS MAY BE NEXT!!!!
BLAME THE DEED NOT THE BREED!!!!!!!
All of the pitbulls I have ever been in contact with have been wonderful dogs. Of course the owners are wondeful owners as well. I know this has a lot to do with any animals owner. Such as children, if you raise an animal properly, it will turn out to be a joy, not a burden.
As the owner of a beautiful and loving pitbull, I am constantly sickened by the ignorance of people who discriminate against specific breeds. My dog is 9 years old and is a lover and friend to all other animals and people. This must stop!
Pitbulls, like all animals are not machines and deserve moral consideration! A breed specific ban is not the answer, and will neither stop the sick people who cause the suffering of innocent animals, nor the human victims of innocent animals trained to be violent. The punishment of destroying a dog never loved, never considered part of the family, and probably never considered even a pet does nothing to deter those who abuse. Forcing the good owners to move, or give up their pup only punishes the responsible owners. The bad owners will continue to break the law while law obiding citizens are the one's getting hurt. It appears Sub-commitee member Fitzgerald is using this as a way to clean up Aurora's image. Sure, the laws need to change! Perhaps he should first consider increasing the "punishment": a fine ($150). In my opinion a little low for someone capable of such an atrocity. Fitzgerald is obviously only trying to further his career and is not intelligent enough to understand the problem, and therefore has not presented us with an intelligent solution. He is obviously unaware of the real issue! This problem is not breed specific, look at the numbers!! Affectionate, loving, educated, responsible, and respectful guardians do not create violent dogs! I am the guardian of Miles, a model citizen Rottie. Will he be next on the ban list? Please, if you love your pup, no matter what breed, TAKE ACTION!
Ok, let us say that we know how many pitbulls there really are...then maybe we can gather scientific data. But, if pitbulls account for 20% of bites and deaths, why aren't we hearing about the other 80% of OTHER BREEDS biting and killing? If we did, do you think we would still think pitbulls were the most dangerous? It is very likely that ANY large breed that is favored by thugs, macho-types (who won't spay/neuter), back-yard breeders, fighters, etc..., you would have this problem. Pitbulls have high risk owners--PERIOD. Some are responsible and educated owners like me and many people I know. I rescued two pitbulls and I am informed about the breed and about dogs in general. Ignorant people create violent dogs!!! Wake up! If there are 200 pitbulls registered with the city and 20 bite the statistics seem against pitbulls. But, if there are 4x that many unaccounted for then thier biter percentage drops precipitously---can't you see? These bans are based on hysteria, bad government and bad science. Start enforcing laws in existence, make them tougher, work on spay/neuter efforts and give NO DOGS to people with FELONIES or a history of violence of any kind. It is a fact that animal abuse and domestic violence are connected--focus on the real stuff!!!
this is ridiculous im sick of all this specisim. pitt bulls are one of the greatest most relible dogs in this world. the crazy thing is it is an american branded dog and was a icon for america for support during world war 2. there is no reason to mistreat them for anything
Pitbulls are awesome, so naturally I'm glad I live in Wisconsin, that means I can own one still. It's terrible that they are scared of pitbulls just because of a couple of people had no control over their own pitbull, that reason alone gains you my support.
This is absolutely horrific! We have a very loving 7 month old pitbull female named Bentley. Pitbulls are beautiful dogs that have gotten a bad rap. How is this legal??
Nearly 2% of the American population reported dog bites annually². Meanwhile in America, a woman is raped every 2 minutes, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Why don't cities focus their time on more important issues like the 50,000 children that are reported missing every year, rape, or child molestation (which happens in 1/4 children)³ instead of the miniscule amount of pit-bull bites which more than likely had irresponsible owners. There are bigger fish to fry. Let’s keep our families together (including all of our pets) and encourage our city officials to concentrate on more important matters! Don’t make an innocent family fall victim to a loose a family member due to other owner’s ineptitude

I have a 14 year old female APBT, a pair of 2 ½ year old APBT brothers and a 9 year old female Rottie. One of the brothers is soon to get the good citizens award. I will always have my APBT's regardless of opinion or law.
I can’t believe this is happening. We cannot allow it. As One Nation Under God, we must band together and stand up for ourselves, our rights and those of our beloved friend the dog. Right now they are going into homes with good families and taking their bully babies to be destroyed because of what they haven’t even thought to do...ever. Because of unfortunate attacks that were only labeled “pitbull”, when in actuality, most of them were not. Do they think that ALL pitbulls will snap and viciously attack anyone near at any moment? You have got to be kidding!! Statistically pitbulls are not even the breed with the most likelihood to attack and bite. Soon BSL’s will turn to other dogs and then all dogs. Please, please do some research. Please, look it up!! Check out a few things before you vote. Then go to www.sorryagain.com and see how much we as a Nation love our dogs, especially our pitbulls. Please don’t tear any more families apart.
My pitbull is more like a "babysitter" to my 7-year old son than any person could be. She watches over him and is his best friend. Why is it that pitbulls are always getting the blame instead of the idiot owners that beat them and train them to attack. If you give the animal love and the proper care just as you would your children then there will be no problems. When is the government going to start to put the blame on the owners and not on a inocent dog...yet again another injustice act of our government taking the rights away from the U.S. citizens.
Blame the deed not the breed, your looking at the wrong end of the lead. if you ban pitbulls people will find other dogs to fight and soon you will ban all dogs....then what?
It's extinguishing an entire species of dog...it's NOT the animal it's how YOU raise them...Pitbulls who attack were raised to do so....this an injustice and MUST NOT BE ENFORCED!!
i have 6 pitbulls and i hear alot of shit about it and when i hear about all of the pits being killed it makes me sad and makes me wish that i could save all of them i love my dogs and would never give them up my dogs are very sweet and loving dogs and they would NEVER bite or attack anyone unless my famiy was threatened i feel so sorry for the people in denver that have lost there beloved pets and they all have my support in this fight
Its not the breed its the owners who create a monster. So If a person kills someone should we kill everyone because of one bad seed?I am the proud owner of six pitbulls and not one of them would hurt a fly!I own bluethunderpitbulls and I would put my dogs around anyone in the world and they would not harm a one.If you wanna ban a certain types of dogs why not ban them all all dogs have bit or killed someone or something in the past! This is another way to take or rights away from us.They take alittle more each day!
Dont ban are dogs its the owners fault that raise these dogs wrong. You take are good dogs and kill them for no reason just because there part of a breed and some bad seeds mess it up. So a human does a crime do we punish that one person are do we punish his whole family? Pls stop this already it is not right!!!!
it is not the breed that is bad it is the up bringing of the dog.if a dysfunctional family owns one then it will grow up to be dysfunctional.if a loving family owns one then it will grow up to be a loving adult pit bull.do not ban these beautiful animals, they need love too.
How can you ban an entire breed of animals? It's like banning a whole race of human people. Not everyone is bad, its the individual. Same thing goes for dogs.
This is a travisty and the "snowball" effect is/has and will continue to be devestating to the community and the families od the AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIERS!
I have been around pitbulls for nearly 20 years and have never been bitten. I have, however, been bitten many times by others breeds that do not have the reputation that pits have been given by ignorant owners and media alike. I trust my pit around small children as well adults, in fact, she has shown aggression towards a human only once, SHE WAS PROTECTING ME FROM AN ATTACKER !! I will never give up my pitbull.
this is horrible! It is not the breed that is the problem, it's SOME of the owners. We have been forced to put our innocent baby inless than ideal circumstances until we can move out of Denver. I am not a bad person harboring a vicious dog, am am a business women with a loving pit bull. A women who is taking her dog, family AND BUSINESS out of Denver. I can't believe they are putting down dogs that have NO history of probelms just because they belong to a certain breed. Once the pits are gone they'll go after another breed, then another, because the people who harboer vicious animals won't care what kind of dog they have to have they will make them attack.
among the "biting" statistics, pitbulls are ranked VERY close to the bottom, with dogs such as cocker spaniels at the top! Any dog is what the people responsible for it MAKES IT!!! I have pitbulls and they sleep in my house and in my bed as well. GEEE....THOSE PITBULLS....THEY SUUUURE ARE MEAN! hahahaha YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!
why all of the killing of the pits it is like the nazi killing the jews.. that was stupid and this is to. i think ithe city and state gov. are getting to big and it is time to nock them back down...i promise that the will not take my dogs with oput a fight
