It's amazing that a ban on these loving animals is the answer for the uneducated. Ignorance is bliss...it seems this is so true in this case. Viscous dogs are not born nor are the bred....they are taught. It seems to me that a long term problem such as dog attacks would be better addressed by a crack down on abusive owners, dog fighters, and incapable handlers.

If this bill is passed shelter dogs will die. This includes those that have been there for over a year. Is their long wait for a forever home going to end in euthanasia? How about the pups, I know of at least one litter of 8 weeks old pups at a Toronto shelter. They will not be spared either if Bill 132 is passed. Please don't pass this bill that will cause so much pain and suffering of both dogs and people.

This breed specific ban is useless. To ban a breed only encourages the owners causing the problems to pick another breed to screw up. It is irresponsible people not teaching their dogs good habits that are causing all the problems, the dog only knows what it has been taught. Yes, there will be the odd “freak” case when a usually good dog turns bad, but that happens in every breed, because this dog has such a strong grip it gets all the press.
Proper training for owners of ANY dog would go a lot farther to improving the life of all dogs and those around them too. Specific legislation regulating how much training a person needs, if they have owned a dog that has caused problems before, they require more training before they are allowed to own a dog, if they refuse the training, they aren’t allowed to own a dog.

I read in the Durham/Hanover paper that this includes American Staffordshire Terriers. They are very gentle dogs (friends of mine own one, and he is adorable). I also read a lot of details on the ban that I find disgusting. My father came from a communist country, and from what he told me this place is definitely worse (a pitiful shame for a supposedly free country). Maybe they should consider that it's irresponsible pet owners instead of the dogs, but I guess that's too smart and they can't have that. That's why our province is so messed up, stupid politicians who don't know anything other than how to put your money in their pocket.

Banning pitbulls, it isn't the way to go. It is the owner that is to blame. The Bible tells us to train up a child in the way he would go and when he is old he will not depart from it. I belive the banning or killing of any breed is wrong. But the killing of pitbulls is off the wall , I own two and they are the best breed in the world. See the only problem with this is they give out as much love as you give them. So thats my logical explination for the problems people are having with pits.
As much as i sympathize with the families that have been affected by pit bull attacks, I too do not believe this is the answer. Pit bulls are NOT the only dogs that have attacked and/or killed people. There has got to be a better solution. Where does it stop? What next? It's very simple and a quick 'fix' to only look at the bad stuff, Mr.Bryant I believe needs to do ALOT more research on this issue. I have three dogs and ones a jack russel (it bites), another is a Shitspoo (it bites), and the other is a Cockerspaniel (its almost dead) really small and they get along very well with my friends Pitbull. They aren't violent unless you train them to be.
Why do we have to come to such discrimination against God creatures? Are they gonna ban criminals as well because they cause the most harm to society. Everyday you hear about stabbing, shootouts, robberies, and plain mischief but I don't hear them saying they can't BREED.
How can you classify a whole breed by a few irresponsible owners that believe dogs are made to fight. Dogs aren't born bad, they are influenced by humans (servants to us). You can raise a good loving dog, just as a good loving kid.

i think to ban pitbulls is somewhat a bit outrageous considering we have higher priorites to deal with such as rapists and **** like that. I guess its just ppl that have small brains that can't seem to focus on the bigger picture of life.
afterall a pitbull is just a dog, and a dog is as good as its trained to be by the owner.... so if you want to make a difference, why not go after the owners that raise vicious dogs....that would be my suggestion....but like that would happen...afterall its much easier to go after something that doesn't have a voice to defend themselves....
I think banning any dog is wrong. What we should be doing is being careful when dogs are bred because there are so many breeds out there that are bred way to much and that does cause problems with the mental well being of all dogs. I can hardly believe that only pit bulls are the ones attacking people now a days. Teaching children and adults how to care for there pets properly will help to decrease the amount of attacks by any animal. Hampsters bite but you don't hear about that on the news.
I think its wrong all the way. I own pitbulls and I have a 7 month old baby boy, and my dogs treat him as their own and protect him and take care of him with their own life. You know I have a American Pit Bull Terrier, and I too always thought oh man what a vicious dog. It is not the DOG BUT THE OWNERS! We are now a Pit Bull owner with children and I could not want a more loving and protective animal! He is such a sweetheart with my son and the family. And very well loved back. He is our big baby. I am even looking at getting a puppy Pit Bull in the near future, female for my son. Don't do as Californians did ban this wonderful Animal, the breed has done nothing. i have worked at my local humane society for 5 years now and we have had more aggressive labs and mixed breeds then we ever have had pitbulls. Dogs are only as mean as their owners.... Dobermans were always thought of as bad dogs, yet my aunt had one for years, a cross, that was as gentle as a fly. All of us kids used to ride her like a pony. There is nothing wrong with pitbulls (or any breed), just the owners who raise them wrong. Raise a child to hit when they're angry and they'll find themselves in jail later in life, but raise a child with hugs and praise and you'll have a fine human. I feel very strongly about this ban, I think people don't know what they are getting themselevs into when they get a certain breed of dog. It's not the dogs fault. If the owner took care of their dog and trianed them propperly there wouldn't be a problem. Maybe if the dogs were tied up? Maybe if owners put leashes on there dogs. Respect. Working in the Veterinary field, I can say Pit Bulls are one of the few I do not concern myself with as vicious. It's how a dog is raised, not his breed specifics.

I walk my dog every day at the park, come and experience the best dog owners in the sault. it is the owners fault if the dog is too aggressive, not enough interaction with other dogs and people. It is truly sad to see the dogs paying the price of irresponsible owners. I currently own three pit bulls (in a state that still respects my freedom of choice), and raised 6 kids with them. I have never had an incident happen. I think you should stiffen the penalties to the dog owners - hit them in the pocket book is how you'll likely get more of their full attention. Pit bull bans only punish the law-abiding and responsible owners who would ordinarily follow the law already - not the irresponsible ones who are already allowing their dogs to roam free, thus breaking the leash law.
Breedism is not the answer. The answer is tougher laws, and regulations that ensure only the right people can own dogs of this sort. there will ALWAYS be people wanting to own tough dogs and will not hesitate to turn to other breeds if the pitbull is banned.
