By banning pitbulls, you are setting a precident of classing species into sub-species groups, this is a dangerous mindset as it will soon turn towards the human species. My girlfriend owns a lovely pitbull who is welcome in my home. My family also adores Asia (the dog). My girlfriend works with children, and she would never own an animal that was aggressive in any way. Asia is always well behaved and angelic. It's nice to be able to take her with me any where and know that she will be good with my friend's dogs, children, and/or cats. What the government is doing is very wrong.
I think they should not blame the dog for their actions because they do as they are trained. They are very powerful and fierce but they only show it if it is taught to them to fight. I own a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and she is the kindest animal I have ever encountered. She loves and is loved by children, cats, other dogs, and all people who get to know her. I am against the discrimination she has suffered recently.
It's not the dog's fault for a bad owner. Every dog is capable of biting anyone, at any given time. You have to understand that this breed is very loyal to it's owner and is not meant to be passed off when you get tired of him/her. Making people that have own pitbulls pay hundreds of dollars to meet the reguirments for grandfathered dogs is outragouse. We did not get these dogs on the understanding that 2,3 or 7 years later we would have to pay all this money out of our pockets to meet such irresponsible requirments. Pit bulls are awesome dogs and I agree if raised right they are the sweetest things ever. It is all in the way the handlers hand them that make them the way they are. Pit bulls need early introduction to humans and other animals as does anything. They need love and attention with this they could become the perfect companion. Many people see/use them as a sign of aggression and this is how they are known which the case is not always. I own two pitbulls, my sister owns two pitbulls, my mom owns one. I would trust my life or the life of a child with a pitbull before i would trust it with alot of people. This is a fast, easy way to engender political support among the uninformed masses, not a viable or well thought-out solution to a complex issue. My seven year old and four year old sons are devistated by the fact we have to get rid of our family pet a female American Pitbull we had sent down from california to breed now we cannot afford 1000000 dollar insurance and our dog has been known to push open our screen door and run across the street thre different neighbours havebroughth her hom on several occasions now undder the new law if that were to happen again although my nieghbours love our dog they could call the police and could end up in Jail the risk is too much and so we are forced to get rid of our lovin g blue girl named Raven.

Staffordshire terriers and pitbull terriers are obedient, loyal, and trusting family dogs. We rescued an abused pit from a local shelter and are happy to say that when provided with a safe, supportive and humane family, pits can not only be happy, well socialized dogs, but they can also be rehabilitated without need for euthanasia. Our pit is the social butterfly of the doggie daycare where she leads the puppy classes 3 days a week, and is a therapy dog for mentally challenged children without posing a threat as seen in much smaller toy breeds.
Although we live in the United States, we recently traveled with our pit to British Columbia, and were happy to receive such a wonderful warm reception and learn of the clear dismay of Canadians regarding the recent legal restrictions imposed in Ontario.

My sister in law has a miniature dachsund and he a very aggressive dog ESPECIALLY to kids! I personally think he is afraid of children because he is so small! I think that people need to supervise their children around dogs of ANY size! Not just to protect the kids but also to protect the dogs, biting is a dogs only means of defence it's not like he can just push the kid away. A child is usually not aware of the body language from a dog (and they do give off signs before biting) so they should be supervised and taught how to treat animals with respect! A dog bites out of fear more often than out of aggression! I have three BIG dogs and three SMALL kids and I do not worry about my dogs ever attacking my kids! My children KNOW it is not okay to pull on their ears and tail or to hit them or to be mean to them in any way but that doesn't mean that they don't try, I still watch them around my dogs to keep my DOGS safe. People need to understand that a dog has feelings too and they need to be respected and if you don't want to take the time and effort to teach your kids how to behave around them or to train a dog properly then you SHOULD NOT own one. A dog is a part of your family and if you own one you cannot expect it to raise itself in the back yard! A DOG NEEDS SOCIALIZATION AND ABOVE ALL LOVE!

Americans must obtain permits to own guns which CAN kill people if in the wrong hands. This permit must be possessed to own a .22 as well as a .38. They don't specify whether you get one for a BIG gun or a SMALL gun. No, you must possess a permit PERIOD and hope that most people that go through the trouble of applying for this take proper measures before doing so (classes on safety, shooting, general education). "There are a few things that can be done to help regulate breeding and ownership of ALL dogs AND cats.
1) Breeders should be licensed through the county. In that process they prove they understand the responsibilities of breeding animals, they understand the importance of vaccinations for puppies and kittens, and how to help the right breed of dogs to go to the right type of family. People can receive a list of registered dog breeders if they want to purchase a dog instead of adoption from the humane society. Registered breeders would be able to license their unaltered pets at a lower fee
2) If you are not a registered dog breeder, your license fee for an unaltered pet should be significant per year (around $150-$200 a year), much higher than the fee is now. This is necessary to encourage people to spay/neuter their pets. Spay/Neutering is important for many health reasons, other than unwanted pregnancies/litters. This would go a long way to getting more aggressive dogs like Shepards, Rottweilers, Dobermans, Pitt Bulls etc. neutered. Aggression is directly related to being unaltered in most cases. This would also really help the massive problem of unwanted kittens the humane society has to deal with each year (right now it is particularly bad).
3) Give animal control officers the power to start enforcing dog and cat licensing laws. If you are walking down a street, an animal control officer can stop you and check to see if your dog is properly licensed. If they aren't, you receive a ticket ($200 ish). You have 30 days to either a) show proof of licensing, b) get your dog licensed and show that proof or c) pay the fine knowing that if you are caught again your dog can be removed from your custody. Animal control officers could also start knocking on doors of houses known to have animals (cats too!) and check for licensing, with the same 'punishments&a
Can you say racial profiling and animal genocide. It's hard to believe that there are organizations out there trying to save species from becoming extinct. While, at the same time the gov't is working hard to make sure this happens to the American Pit bull terriers. I thought that we live in a civilized society of rationality. I thought that man has advanced to the point of compassion and empathy. Man has no one to blame but himself for the vicious attacks. We are not talking about wild animals. We are talking about domesticated dogs that we raise and train. If they attack there is no one to blame but the irresponsible owner. When are we going to start taking responsibility for our own actions???
This is stupid, i had a pet pitbull named teusday and it was fine around ANYONE that didnt want to harm her. SHe was raised properly and its true..if raised properly a pitbull can be a good loving pet. I think people who refuse to train their dogs properly shouldnt be able to have them!!
The dogs aren't the ones at fault. Improper and cruel training on the owners' part is the factor we should be looking at. All dogs are territorial by nature and when raised to not get along with any person, all dogs have the potential to be hostile to strangers. Pit Bulls by nature are loyal and fairly goofy dogs, it is the poor ownership of these regal breeds that should be ended, not the innocent dogs' lives.
Pitbulls are more loyal and loving than most humans and smarter too! You wanna ban something? Ban Guns and Stupidity!
Why do we kill animals that attack but we just "imprison" people who attack, rape and kill? Karla Homolka is more dangerous than my pitty and that "psycho" is on the street..If the "death-penalt y" is good enough for a pitbull why not a human?
ok get this straight!pitbulls are loving creatures that need to be treated that way!over half of all the pits in the world have never even thought about hurting a human!but no....all u care about are the bad ones which is a dumb way to be because american staffs and rottweilers are also violent dogs what are you going to try and band those breeds next?maybe you should take the time to think about think before you make a stupid desision!
So a few dogs have hurt someone. You can't just kill of allt the pitbulls. It's just wrong.
A few HUMANS have killed or hurt other humans, do you go killing off the human speies? Didn't think so. So why would you treat any other living thing differently? Dogs have feelings, too and it's not right to penalize all of the pitbulls, for the actions of a select few.
You should definitely reconsider this decision.
The canadian government does not know what they are doing becaus they are not the ones working at the animal shelters and that have to see them from day to day. The government needs to smarten up and do more homework on the subject!
How stupid can you be. It's not the dogs fault it's the owners. As long as you bring them up good they're great dogs. I lived next door to a pitbull breeder when i was young, and me and my little brother used to always go play with them, and they weren't violent at all. The only reason you want the bad, is easier your too lazy to find a better alternative, or just too stupid to come up with anything. If that's the case that step down and let someone willing to do the right thing, even if it's not the easiest way.
