Banning a dog thats like telling someone they cant have a kid. Some people all they have is their animals to look forward to, how would you like it if we banned you?
people should be punished for treating animals wrong. and banning pitbulls will not prevent people from having them. this is one of the stupidest reasons to ban anytype of dog i've ever heard. if you ban pitbulls then you should ban every type of dog in new mexico becuase these people that treat the pitbulls wrong will treat other dogs just the same. as for logical thinking and intelligence of these dogs, they are very smart if treated right from wrong the correct way. dogs are bad becuase people make them bad not becuase they have it in their nature...grow up! they are just like children...

I own a pit bull black lab mix...are you saying that all pit bulls are bad even if they're mixed? What dog breeds are next? The poodle....? I mean come on, this is getting downright stupid and uncalled for, punish the people that "Game" the animals, not the breed itself.
2 months ago they banded pitbulls in Council Buffs Iowa i belive the owners should be held accountable for their dogs actions the dogs were not born to be mean they are just like every other breed.
I suppose to be fair we should also ban humans from states as well. Humans commit violent acts and we lock them up, what the next time a male commits a crime all males will get locked up, get serious
I hove own and raised American Pitbull Terriers for sometime. I have never had No problems with any of my dogs or the pup's out of my two dogs. It's not the breed you should punish, it's the people that miss treats or fights the breed. I have an 8yr old boy that grow up around my dogs and they are very loveing and Loyal to as they are to us. The only thing I could say is to those people that as never owned this breed, you should before you jug the breed. I have owned other breeds and they have turned on my family and they were never as Loyal and loving as the Pitbull's.
I have owned pitbulls my whole life and i have never had any problem with mine. It is all how people raise there dogs. The old saying guns dont kill people, people kill people. Well that is true with pitbulls too. Cruel people are responsible for how a pitbull reacts
There are far more problems in New Mexico other than PITBULLS, EX. teen pregnancy,gangs and DWI affenders. Leave this beautiful breed of dog alone. God created this breed it should be up to Him to rid of this dog. Not us !!!
I think that people who judge this wonderful breed have no right to do so unless they have owned one themselves. I own two of the smartest and kindest dogs i have ever been in contact with and they are both 100% AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER

Your ignorant and have no right in a free country to ban one breed especially such a great family dog as a pitbull. Whats next are you going pass a law to ban a certain race from having kids. Just because one bad apple. I grew up around pitbulls and not one attacked me
not even strange pitbulls....but i have been attacked by all sorts of breeds not one pitbull. i dont think any breed is a bad breed. Your so damn ignorant you dont belong in office.
I am a loyal New Mexico citizen who is currently serving in the U.S. Army. I would just like to express my outrage at the law trying to be passed. For years now I have owned pitbulls and have grown to love the breed very dearly. I have raised my dogs with nothing but love and care, and they have been nothing but LOYAL. I think that it is completely out of line for any law to go into effect that punishes and effects the pitbull breed as well as the loving owners when the guilty party is obviously the bad and abusive owners that have created the problem. Nothing and nobody will ever stop me from raising loving and loyal pitbulls, my favorite breed. I would greatly appreciate it if you would strongly reconsider your stand on pitbull laws in New Mexico. It is a big mistake.

I have a pit bull of my own and they are not mean at all...she is a big baby infact she use to be a fighter but then i took her from the man who had her because i did not think it was right and once u get them off the raw meat and the gun powder they go back to normal and this dog has never left my side.....and everyone in the town i live in loves her everyone gives her cookies and things when they see her then at one point she got real sick to where i thought she was going to die and people in the town paid her vet bill because she is like there dog too she licks them and plays with them all the time.....dogs are what u make of them no matter what breed they are....big small fat tall its how you treat them they have feelings too
All my life I have been around dogs. I have owned 2 rott's and 2 pit's. All were/are great dogs and never hurt a soul. Stranger's would come to my house, freak out after seeing them and hide, but the other thing my dog's would do would sit there wanting to be petted. My dog's are loving dog's. Every pitbull I have encountered has been more than nice to me. They welcomed me as they did other people. I have seen and sat and played with AT LEAST 50 pit's in new mexico and not one ever tried attacking me. However, I've been bit by about every small dog I've seen, been attacked by a terrier, a retriever, and a collie. Just for being invited into a friends or families household. Pitbull's are smart dogs and deserve better recognition than what they have. I see my neighbors dog's run around the neighborhood chasing kids, cars, people on bike's, etc. However my pitbull will sit by an open gate, free to roam wild, and will not leave the yard unless I am with her. She will not leave my side. On top of this she is also a great baby sitter, my cousin has a 2 year old and a 10 month old, the dog play's with them and doesn't harm them one bit. not a bite, not a stratch. She get's pulled on and hit by them kid's and she never once showed any sign of hostility. My cousin still calls me to ask if can bring my dog over to her house to help baby sit her kids. Pit bulls are NOT the problem. It's like saying gun's kill people. Just remember who pulled the trigger.
Sue Wilson Beffort before you go and try banning this breed spend a few days trying to get to know the breed and you will change your mind instantly. This is one of the most loyal and loving breed of dogs known to mankind. If you ban them you'll be making a big mistake. Punish the deed not the breed!!!!
these dogs are not dangerous there are just some ignorant people out there. if you ban pets then ban cigeretts because they kill more people than pit bulls
Instead of punishing the people who show these dogs and champion them maybe they should take a look at the people who are raising the "problem" dogs. There are a lot of people out there who are not mature enough to own these dogs. Why should the people who spend a lot of money, energy and time into these dogs be punished for someone elses actions? This is rediculous. I have a two year old son and I own 3 pitbulls and they love my son. My dogs lay on the couch all day and are very spoiled. My male is about 90lbs. and very aggressive looking. He wouldn't harm a fly. If someone knocks on the door we're lucky if he even lifts his head. Screen the owners of these dogs. Don't ban them!

have you ever owned a apbt chances are you havent.how can you judge something you know nothing about.what people dont know they fear, what they fear they hate, what they hate they try to destroy. a apbt has the same chance of attacking a person as a golden retriever or a poodle. we love our dog as much as we love our daughter she is a family member if you ban her you will be banning a part of our family. please look at the statistics before making decisions based on media attention.
People need to be punished for irresponsibility not the thousands of dogs in this state that have never hurt anyone and live as members of many families in the state.

Oppose the ban to pitbulls. I own a pitbull and I have never had a problem with him. He has been just as good as a dog as any other I have seen. The problem lies with the individuals who own these dogs NOT the dog itself! the same goes with a gun. its not the weapon but the person who pulls the trigger.
The American Pit Bull Terrier was once hailed as a war hereo, he was also a movie star, they are therapy dogs, but above all else the are loyal, intelligent, and trustworthy family companions. The biased and unfair targeting of this noble and misunderstood breed is a tradgey for all of us that love the breed. Let me ask her this: If a certain race of person was found statistically to commit more crimes than another should that race be forbade to reproduce? Should they be banned from living in certain states? Does that make any more sense than what she is trying to do with our dogs? The dogs have no choice and no voice as to who they get to pick as their owners. Senator, do you honestly think any dog would pick a person that is going to chain them in the back yard, never giving them any love or attention, force them to fight,and teach them that being mean is a good thing? NO, no dog would chose this kind of life, but yet you are wanting to punish the dog instead of the person responsible for such tradgey. ALL dogs become products of their enviroments. If a dog is raised in a loving and caring home they will act accordingly. If you were mistreated and forced to live at the end of a chain your whole life how good would your attitude be? You need to focus on the PEOPLE responsible for this misjustice not the innocent dogs.
Cars kill people, wild animals bite people, having sex can leave you with a fatel disease. Chihuahuas have killed innocent children. So why don't we just ban everything? Exactly-- banning things isn't the answer. Being responsible about what we do and how we do it is the answer. BSL laws are nothing but 'band-aid' techniques employeed by those that are too lazy or ignorant to get down to the root of the problem. You would never think about discriminating against me because someone of my race committed a crime-- so why profile dogs that way?

i personnaly own three wonderful pitbull and they dont have an aggressive bone in their bodies you shouldnt ban a breed just because some people use them for illegal purposes and raise their dogs the wrong way . ANY BREED can bite and hurt or kill someone so if you ban pitbulls you should ban all breeds of dogs i suggest that you do some research on dog bites and attacks pit bulls are not the ones at the top of that list then you better see why the ones that are on the list are there in the first place you will find that most of them are not nuetered or are provoked by something. if anything make owners of pitbulls and other dangerous breeds have their dogs spayed and nuetered unless they plan to breed
It is obvious that often times politicians error. From Presidents on down the chain of command. People and government should go hand and hand. In unity for a common cause or purpose. Sen. Sue Wilson Beffort, you are demonstrating a feeble attempt to disrupt this unity, by making a decision to invade the privacy of USA citizens with your BSL bill. Weather you like animals or not is not an issue. But the way you deal with others who do, effects every aspect of other proposals you may be considering as Senator of New Mexico. Protecting the citizens and serving them in good will means just that. Hitler was a fine example of what can happy when human rights are infringed upon. Though owning a Pit Bull is of no real consequence for you, it means a lot to animal lovers who have made this breed their choice for pet. Many laws in your state and others, are in dire need of inforcement and proper imposed sentencing to reduce some of the criminal activity of criminals. BSL bill is not one of them and will do absolutely nothing to create a safer environment in the state of New Mexico for all people to live. Pit Bulls do not have a police record in your state, so laws directed towards them would be futile. Laws that would eliminate prostitution, child abuse and the like, would help you in your direction as a public servant to improve existing conditions and set the correct moral example for the people you serve. Time and money in these troubled times should not be wasted. Please use both correctly and use your intellect and abilities to benefit the people as a whole and not just a chosen few. Reconsider your position as senator and what your true purpose should be. Animal Control and local authority can handle animal problems and other civil matters. There are enough exisitng laws that should allow you to enforce them correctly and serve a worthwhile purpose in improving home and government.
