I feel that I would be wrong to ban an entire breed of pet just because they do their job. The blame for mishaps belongs to the idiots not taking care of their children or of themselves. I think both local and national government officicals have more dangerous preditors to worry about like child molesters and kidnappers.

My family will support a bill that would impose restrictions on breeders and owners. Potential owners and all breeders should be screened and be determined moderate to advanced experience of dog ownership.

If you want to inforce a breed ban loyal owns will fight to the very end and the city, state or county will loose millions of dollars on lawsuits. I agree with what everyone is saying. Blame should be put on the owners, and also on the child's parents for allowing them to either tease the dogs or beat them. The animals only protect themselves, or their homes. Not all Pittbulls are fighers, some are gentle and don't realize that they can be killers. Place blame where needs to be not on the animals that can't speak for themselves. Think how you would feel if you were put to sleep for fighting with your friends or enemies, and could not defend yourself for the explaination. Get real people for those that blame the breed!!!!!

first of all, what is the reason u would try to ban a dog from society that is as lovin and caring and is as much of a family dog as the pit bull. most pit bulls r not bred to be mean or aggressive or trained to be. for years the media has been diggin up only the few attacks and throwing them to public sayin that pit bulls are evil dogs and shouldnt be owned by many people. i myself as a pit bull owner think that they animals that r lovin, obediant, affectionant, and dosile dogs. the only way that they are when is when people abuse them or train them to be that way. that is the only way. out of all the pit bulls i have been around since i was a young kid till this date (3-10-05) i have never had a pit have any aggression towards me or anyone i know. in fact more family dogs such as labs and cocker spaniels and aslo german shepards have shown way more aggresion and have had more attacks then pit bulls. pit bulls are ranked among the least that have attacked. so y would u ban the pit bull, which is more of a family dog and less aggressive than ur very own lab??? there is no reason for it.

Instead of banning Pit Bulls, you should give up to 10 years to people who are caught fighting them or causing problems with there pit bulls. But, as i, my two pit bulls are in an association and they are winning trophys and giving the bully breeds a good name. I own two of the most incredible dogs in the animal world. Pit bulls are not dangerous, it depends on the owner, bad owners result in bad dogs. Pit bulls protect those they love and are extremely loyal. i have never had a complaint on my dogs, just compliments. i love my pitbulls. banning them would be insane. I own, raise, and breed pitbulls. I love all my dogs and would rather move than give even one of them up! I do not raise mean dogs. Dogs, all dogs not just pitbulls are made to be mean not born that way. NONE of my dogs would ever attack without the reason being of protecting me and my family. Just because some people are stupid with how their dogs should be treated and raised doesnt mean that all dogs and owners should be punished. That's like punishing the child for the actions of the parent!
I own two pitbulls and a bull mastiff. I get looks all the time and people harassing me before they even know the dogs or myself. I always stop and try to inform people when I see that they are fearful of my three dogs. I walk all three of them at once and some people start to realize that if I can walk them in a park full of dogs and not one of them will bark or pull. But you see those little **** dogs and they are all up on you r heels yapping up a storm. I have been bit three times by dogs that are under 35 lbs. and their owners are walking them without a leash. So Give Pitbulls a Chance and get to know them . They will love you more than any other dog that I know. They are also a true AMERICAN Icon and you all knwo that there are not to many more of them.

I am a owner of two pitbulls and they are very sweet and loveable dogs. Why should a ban be placed on this breed. I think people read to much into the hype that the Media throws out about the breed. A german sheparp. and a labador can be just as agressive as a pitbull if provked or if the animal is guarding his/her territory. So please don't punish the breed, punish the deed.

Statistically, the crime rate in the US is categorized by race, however we do not stop certain races from having children. To claim that a child of race would grow up to rape or kill someone is pure ignorance. So why do it to a breed of dog? Pit bulls are more compassionate than most people believe, and most people who would approve a ban have never even owned a pit bull. Why stop here? A cocker spaniel bite can send a baby to the hospital, so why not ban them too? It is appalling to see people so blinded by the media. By the way, when there is a pit bull attack, why do they call it a pit bull mix? Could it be that it is not a pit bull at all?
dogs can be taught pretty easy if you take the time to do so. pit bulls are good dogs to have around, and if taught how to act then they are excellent dogs, but if you teach it to attack everything in sight then that could pose a problem. all i have to say really is teach your pit bull how to behave and you should have no problems whatso ever.
to ban pit bulls is to take away a freedom, what is after pitbulls? rotweilers? dobermans? maybe chihuahuas? more people get bitten by small dogs anyway, or cats.. Those bites tend to get infected how about harsher punishments for the owners of viscious animals

i don't think you should ban pitbulls completely they are very loving dogs, but you should maybe do a background check on the people that want to buy them. maybe like a criminal background. they will still end up in new mexico anyway even if they are banned. they can be very loving dogs if they are treated properly. any dog could be dangerous with the wrong treatment it isn't the dogs' faults its the people owning them. i don't think an animal should be banned from people that could love it because of someone else being stupid and heartless. i'm sure the back ground checks may not even help but neither will banning them that's the only point i'm trying to make.
Banning the breeding of the Pit-bull is not the answer to irresponsible “back yard” breeding of these poor animals. There are far more responsible, loving, pit-bull owners than there are those that would breed and neglect these animals. These particular dogs need to be protected not banned. We need strict regulations on owning these animals and they need to be enforced. It’s inconceivable that one would ban an animal because of the irresponsible actions of the owner or person in possession of the animal. I employ you; please do not take away the right to own these loving and loyal animals from us responsible people. I have faith that you will do the right thing.
