I have had multiple service dogs that are pure pitbulls from old style fighting lines. If my dogs can both protect me and tolerate the 800 kids in the middle school in which I work, they are hardly the mindless killers they are made out to be.
Pitbulls are smart and very caring dogs. I remember when my son went to michigan in 1999. he called to say he had bought a pitbull. I basically told him i did not want that type dog in my house. Well my wife talked me into it and Pepper became a member of our house. She is also the the smartest and loving dog i have ever had in my house. I think back when my dad told me i couldn't have a doberman because it would turn on me. I got a beautiful female i named Mandy. When i went into the service, my parents took her in and she became the best dog they ever had. I have had many breeds of dogs over the years and each dog had a little different personality. I now have a pitbull named Tyla and a Westie. I love them both.If you want to ban something ban stupid bans!!
Pits are actually banned in the state of MD. Well in PG County. Being as though this is true, I had to put my dogs to sleep. I don't think there should be a ban on any type of dogs. It isn't the dogs, it's the owner's who train them to be cruel. I would give anything to have my dogs back and I can't. They were my children and it's sad,
Ban the offensive breeder. Enforce the current Animal Cruetly laws on the books and enact laws to incarcerate people that abuse animals with harsher sentences and physical infringements on such barbarians.
i know because for 20 years our family has owned pitbulls, and always around children, we have never had a problem with any of them.is all in the way you raise them like any other pet, and child for that matter
As a new owner of a Pit Bull my heart is lost to her. She is a wonderful dog. Dogs only want to eat, sleep and play. People teach them to be cruel. Go after the people.
i don't think any breed of dog should be banned it's not their fault the way their raised and how you feel if someone banned you from some where because of the way your parents raised you or because you are race
I don't live in New Mexico, but I do have two pitbull mixes and they are the sweetest dogs you will meet. They would never hurt anyone or anything. It is in how you raise them and love them.

Make laws tougher on people who mistreat their dogs, ban them from having or breeding dogs. Don't ban this beautiful breed because of irresponsible people. And don't ban the breeding of this dog, ban certain people from owning them
I think that the banning of pibulls is wrong. I have 3 Pitbulls and they are like my kids. I didn't raise them to be mean. Its the owners responsiblity to raise their dogs right adn if they aren't then the people need to be punished not the dog. I also know the Allens and they should not have let Emma play with a dog they didn't know. If it had been a Lab that had bit her, would they try to ban that breed? Its sad what happened to her, but its not everyone elses fault. I love my dogs and all 3 are registered and nutured and are good dogs.

i dont think that pit bulls should be banned it is not the dogs fault but my opinion is that dogs are not born mean it is the people who make them mean why punish people for the love of the breed of pit bulls both of mine are as gentle as a lamb
Attempting to ban a particular breed of dog is ridiculous and discrimination! My husband and I own 3 pit bulls and they are all wonderful! I feel that Sen. Sue Wilson needs to re-direct her efforts to punishing the people who own these dogs strictly for fighting purposes, and because of that, they are being severely abused. These animals cannot speak up for themselves, that is why we need to do it for them. The problem isn't the breed, it is the owners of the breed. I find it amazing that whenever a pit bull bites someone it makes national news; however, if another breed of dog like a poodle for instance, bites someone--nobody ever hears about it. I would like to know if Senator Sue Wilson Beffort has ever owned a pit bull, and if not, maybe she should before she starts trying to ban the breed. I think that if she did, she would change her mind.

My mom has a pit butt and she is the most lovable dog. I agree it depends on how the dog is raised. This dog benn around all of her grandchildren and she has never did anything to doubt her temper. I love that dog to death. I don't think they should ban pitbulls.
I have a 9 month pit/nanny dog whom lives w/ 3 cats, her best friends a 6 month beagle and helps a 19 month baby WALK!!! I LOVE HER!!!!!There are no bad dogs only OWNERS
Pitbulls are loyal, loving dogs, they can also be killers BUT SO CAN CHIHUAHUA'S as a chihuahua owner I can say smaller dogs can be more vicious than some big dogs. My point is dont make the breed extinct because some people want to let there pits run loose or because they fight there dogs lets crack down on punishing them not everyone!!!!! How can you pooint the finger at once specific breed? its not the breed that does the crime, its the people who raise and mistreat the breed. i own 3 puppies now, never thought i would. i went over to a freidns house and started playin with the dogs and at the time i was stupid. i didn't know what i was palying with. turned out i was was playing with 4 pit bulls. never once did any of them bite or even get upset. there was even neightbor hood kids playing with them and having fun. theses dogs, if raised right by the right people, are very loving, obidient, and gental dogs. don't seperate this breed from another just cuz some people don't know what the meaning of a family pet is.
BSL is wrong! Punish the deed, not the breed. What are the odds that the individual's that are supporting BSL have never owned, nor been around a pitbull in their entire life. Targeting a specific breed of dog will not do anything to protect people from problem dogs. If we want to prevent dog bites we must target the irresponsible owners that allow their pets to become a public danger. It would be much more effective to revise dangerous dog laws without targeting a specific breed. Please take the time to become educated about the breed before making an inaccurate assumption.BSL is a big mistake!
i used to think a pit bull was a bad dog too, until my boyfriend rescued a puppy from an abusive situation. he said that it was a pit bull but i didnt believe that such a sweet, cute, loyal and loving puppy could be a pit bull, but here i am two years later with the best dog i have ever had. he is more loyal then any Labrador i have owned. He is so smart and learns things very quickly. I take him to agility events to show him off and promote the breed. Banning this wonderful dog makes me sad to think that someone wants to take my baby from me and prevent this wonderful, intelligent, sweet and loyal breed of dog from continuing to bless the lives of many people.
I have been lucky enough to have enjoyed the company of a red- nosed pitbull named Rocky for seven years now. He is part of the family and let's us know if something is amiss. He has never been violent with anyone. He is a true joy and is the best dog my family has ever had.
I thought discrimination and igorance was over in the 60's apparently not. Amstaffs, Pitbulls and all other breeds pin pointed in the BSL laws are just as loyal and loving as any other breed. It's people that gave them a bad rap.
an average mans dog, an over average pet. thats why there are so many pitbulls out there. the problem is the people who cannot care or work with the dogs properly, and who mistreat and fight them. any dog would become vicious under these circumstances. but why all the time do pitbulls get the bad rap? for every breed that is banned another takes it's place, and the cycle never stops. i dont think any of you overfed and overpaid politicians will be happy until everybody owns a poodle! which statistically is more prone to attack and disfigure people than the pitbull breeds.why must we fight like dogs to get this point across, when fighting is what we are trying to stop.unfortunately when a person in power wants something they always get it. but when that person in power doesnt understand is when you start taking away peoples rights and freedoms, bad things start to happen and society starts to lose faith in the government and starts acting on their own behalf.think about how your negative approach to control a breed of dog that just needs to have better control of who own's them will do in the long run.
Don't punish the any breed for the deeds of a few irresponsible owners. The statistics don't lie there are many breeds of dogs that are more prone to attack humans than the pitbull dog. If the deed is not punished that same own guy who losses his pitbull today will own a Doberman tomorrow. Where will punishing the breed end? The APBT is a great dog and is no more dangerous than any other breed. My 8 month old APBT is a big baby - he even tries to sit on my lap! They're just clowns. Why ban an entire breed for the rediculous choices some owners make??? DON'T BAN THIS BREED.
I'm not trying to insult any breed as I love all dogs, but okay does this mean that if none Labrador Retriever snaps at someone suddenly there will be this scary hype that's all, "OMG OMG PNG BAN LABS!"? More Cockers bite each year, anyway. And sometimes news people/witnesses can see that the dog is clearly a Pointer, but go running off screaming, "AHHHH A PIT BULL JUST ATTACKED SOMEONE CALL 911! 911!"

Trying to ban a specific breed of dogs for being too dangerous, is about as dumb as trying to stop people from having kids because they may become serial killers or rapist. It's stupid and impossible to determine which dogs are true apbt as opposed to pitbull mixes (mutts).
Don't ban this incredible breed. It really is the owner's responsibility to train this breed not to act like the way the media sees them. It is not fair to judge a pitbull by its history but judge them by their character as they are smarter and only possess a harmful act under negligent owners.
I have 2 full pitbulls and 1 pitbull mix. I make sure they are not agrressive, even towards eachother. I don't allow them to play fight either. Instead of banning the breed, maybe put some restrictions in place. Any breeder should have a valid license, if not all animals should be fixed. Have each owner register their animal. Although, I feel any dog can become violet at any time. Dalmations, Labs... etc. Every dog I've ever owned has always been protective of their home/ property. It's not fair that I should have to get rid of my dogs, who have not committed any crime, except for being born a PITBULL
I have owned several pits and anyone wanting to ban them should stop by and see mine. I've never had a problem with my dogs. It's not the dogs fault, but the owners for raising them wrong. Most people dont know this but on average US wide POODLES bite more people than pits do. Yeah, lets think about this!
This breed of dogs are very intelligent, it is not the breed of dog it is how the dogs are bred. Any breed of dog can hurt or kill any animal or hurt a human. This breed of dogs are not killers it is the humans that train these animals to do these harmful acts. I think that the people who raise these animals to be cruel should be punished not the animals. In the state of New Mexico most people know who these people are that provoke the dog fights and ill manners of the breed. I have had many breeds of dogs since I was a child, and I have never had any problems with any of our Pitbulls, they have been the most stable,loving and temperamentally sound dogs I have ever had the pleasure of owning.
The American Pit Bull Terrier is one of the best family dogs I've ever had the privilege to have. My famliy owned a pet shop for 17 years, have bred & raised many different breeds of dogs as well as having them as "famliy members". We rescued my current Pit from a local shelter & she is a docile as can be. This bill is outlandish. The owners & "rogue" breeders are the ones actually at fault in this situation. Punish them, NOT the responsible pet guardian. Pits in loving hands are the most loyal "people" dogs you'd ever want to meet. ANY dog can be provoked into a bite or fighting, be it a toy poodle or an Irish Wolf Hound. It is the owner NOT the particular breed that is at fault.
People who mistreat any animal (including pitbulls) should be the one who should be band and not permitted to have ANY animals. The dogs themselves are not the problem... its the owner who treats them bad!

I have a pit and she is one of the nicest dogs I have ever owned and my girlfriends cousins have two huge pits of their own and they are also very well behaved. We were going to breed our dogs and still are and I dont care what the bill says. If you dont know anything about the breed except about the DUMBASS people who breed their dogs to fight then you should just shut up. These dogs are very gental kind intellagent and a hell of a guard dog so people like this sen. sould go to hell
This proposed bill is a classic example of the moronic efforts of our elected officials. Punish those who are guilty of allowing their dogs to behave badly, not all those who own dogs. What's next? If you want to stop dog bites, why don't you ban the breeding of cocker spaniels, who have one of the highest bite ratios of all the breeds? Oh no, wait, that would display some forethought, so we can't set that precedent....

I've never been much of a dog person. I love animals, and prefer cats. My husband has always owned pit bulls. When we moved in together, I was nervous about getting a puppy. I have a five year old cat who is not used to other animals. We got a beautiful pit bull pup who I fell in love with immediately. I've heard so many bad things about these dogs that I didn't want her around my cat. we've had our puppy about a year now, and because she was raised by my cat she acts like one. She has never been aggressive or hostile toward anyone. She's just a big baby. I have a newfound love for these wonderful dogs. We have befriended many breeders in the area and hope to start breeding ourselves. I believe that any animal that is raised in a good home, regardless of breed, is a wonderful addition to any family.
I am a Military member and a pit bull owner. I grew up in a part of Albuquerque where unfortunately, pit bull fights are too common. I also grew up seeing people exploit the breed in awful ways. I've never known an irresponsible pit bull owner to register, vaccinate, or care at all about these beautiful animals to have any documentation of their dogs at all. I think by banning pit bulls, you'll be punishing us responsible dog lovers, and the people mishandling these animals will continue to do so.
i have a baby pit, she is sweet... she lives with my older poodle, my 2 cats, my rabbit, my 3 hampsters, and my 2 mice... i have not had a problem with her... my best friends DEAF pit is the SWEETEST dog that you will ever meet... raise 'em right, and they wont fight
This is obnoxious,i have raised many Pitbulls and they are wonderful dogs.half the dogs your accuse of attacking people aren't even pitbulls,they're just look-alikes so you label them pitbulls.Refer to the facts about the breed, 95% of pitbulls tested in the American canine temperment testing association passed ranking the American Pitbull Terrier fourth among all breedes.The average for all other breedes combined was only 77% passing. Punish the horrible owners that cause the dogs to be aggresive,cause non of my pitbulls would ever hurt a fly.punish the deed not the breed.

we have owned pitbulls for many years they are great dogs and companions very loyal and obediant, the dogs should not be banned in new mexico or any where else for that matter. stop focasing so much on pitbulls and get all these mutts of our streets
im living in colorado and the pit bull ban has just recently been lifted but are trying to reinstate it. i believe this ban should be ptitioned across the intire US
I have had 96 pitbulls in my lifetime and i am only 14 years old they deserve to live just like any other animal! They are only as mean as their trainers make them, they are not mean natured they just need love like any other animal on this planet!!!
