It's not right that ppl want to take away the whole breed for a few misfits. How would ppl like it if we said get ride of certain families because there's a bad person in that household. Why judge all for a few misfits? It's not fair and it's not right!!!

I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a bad dog, a bad breed or a problem dog. Just bad owners and problem owners. Any breed can be "bad" and any dog can be "bad". I hate breed bans because they're completely unfair. First, they are blaming the problem on the dogs and not the owners. The dogs are innocent creatures and they become what we make them. Second, most people don't know one breed of dog from another. There are so many breeds that look like pit bulls including Americana Bulldogs, boxers, presa canarios, and cane corsos and many more. There are 28 breeds I believe that people commonly mistake as pit bulls. If they ban pit bulls, they ban all those breeds because people can't tell the difference.
People should be aware that pit bulls can be with the right owner wonderful family companions, that the humans are the want to blame for the problems that this breed now has
Humans are the ones to teach animals how to fight ,how to attach so is not in any means the dogs fault and when a dog attack no matter if it’s a pit bull or a Chihuahua the owners should be hale responsible ,not the dogs

i was raised w/PitBulls, in 29 years, never did they act vicious. When i started my family, my husband was afraid of having this specific breed around our children... we adopted a small terrier mix, he is more aggressive than any PitBull i have ever known. PitBulls are loyal, loving companions.
Its not the breed its the owners if you ban pitbulls today,you should ban all other breed outlaw dogs altogether .Banning pitbulls in New mexico is unjust and pointless.I have own pitbulls and other breed of dogs over the years and the only dog to turn on me was a german sheperd .Pitbulls are one of the most loyal fun palyful energetic smart breed odf dogs that exist. I am thirteen years old and I already know the devotion an American Pit Bull Terrier has too offer. My friend has a dog, American pit bull who I would give my life for in a minute. Hes been there for me more often than my own Alaskan husky mix. Mahatma Gandhi once said "The greatness of a country and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." Chief Dan George said "If you talk to the animals, they will talk with you and you will know eachother. If you do not talk to them, you will not know them, you will not know them. And what you do not know you will fear, and what man fears, he will destroy." Jeremy Bentham said "A civiled society must count animals worthy moral civilization and ethical treatment. The question is not Can they reason? nor Can they talk? But can they suffer?" See what our problem is is that we are too self absorbed that we are going too punish a lower species such as the dog than too realize the true problem behind this and punish a fellow human being. fortunatly, not all pit bulls are owned by monsters, but unfortunatly, they are still treated as one and feared. "He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be your faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. We cant just get rid of them all because some are not good parents, so why should we get rid of Pit Bulls just because a small percent may not be the best dog in the world...besides if you respect them then they would not have a reason to be agressive!!! think about it !!!
I had found a stray pitbull that was stranded on the side of the road. I took her home and for 5 and 1/2 months she was a wonderful companion. My neighbor took it upon himself to rid the neighborhood of this "potential" problem and shot her to death. I have a $1000 reward out for the arrest and conviction of this person(s) who did this to my beautiful girl.
I support this petition. I have worked in several veterinary hospitals, and I can tell you from my personal experience you cannot judge what breed of dog is going to be more aggressive than another. If you look at all the studies on dog attacks and even the statistics since 1980 you are going to notice that pit bull's and pit bull type breeds have no more attacks or kills than any other type of "aggressive" dog. Pit Bull's just like many other strong dog have the potential to attack a human, but these are things that are either bred into the dog, trained by the owner, or simply learned by negligent ownership. Owner's should be punished for having fighting dog. The dog's that actually attack individuals should be put down and the owner should be punished harshly. Why should all types of one dog be banned? If you want New Mexico to quit producing people aggressive dogs, maybe they should focus on eliminating all forms of animal fighting. Why should some people think it's okay to fight a rooster and not a dog? It's all or none! Don't be lazy and just ban a breed. Do your research, and do what is right!

this isn't right! Not all pitbulls are bad! They just get a bad reputation because people are ignorant. Blame the owners that abuse their dogs, make them fight, and train them to be vicous, not the breed. My aunt used to have a pitbull that all teh kids on her street would torture. As a result, she (the dog) didn't like kids and was terrified of them. Tell me, is that the dogs fault or those rotten kids? Plus, for some people, all they have is there dog. It's tehre best and only friend. Some people might depend on their dog if they are blind or deaf. Some helping dogs are pitbulls; is the goverment going to take away something peole depend on to live? BSL is wrong. You wouldn't get rid of your kid just because his or her classmates or friends weren't raised right, would you?
As a dog groomer, I must say that you have got the wrong guy! Pits are our favorite customers! They are always happy to see us! If you're hell bent on banning breeds take a look at Akits, Chows, Cocker Spaniels(yes, cockers). We turn down 90% of each breed because we can't get within 3ft of them to take their leash because they growl, snarl, and snap at us! Pits are truely mans best friend when they are treated as such. Remember how unfair it was when the teacher would punish the whole class because of one "bad apple"? Same thing here! Punish the evil people who ruin their dogs by making them mean! Make responsible ownership of ALL breeds a requirement not the dogs themselves.

I support this petition. My husband and I own a English Staffie and he is like our baby. I have grown up with many different breeds of Pitbulls my entire life and just like many other people say "they are like children, and they will act the way you raise them." All of the pits I have owned have been huge babies who sleep in the bed and love to cuddle. I cant even sleep next to my husband without our pit being in between us. To anyone who has anything against pits,you should be against the owners who make them mean, not the breed itself!

I own a pitbull. The breed is just like a child. You teach them manners, they'll learn under guidance. You teach them how to misbehave, they will run wild. Again Nature vs. Nurture. NOTE: I am against pitbull owners who breed for money not to enhance the breed's temperment or agility.

if you beat your dogs for no reason they will get tired of it and wil bite back. i have also talked to pit bull owners and they say if you put them around other people when they are puppies they wont bite other people as dogs.
