the great apbt is a loving, loyal dog.i have been involved with this breed of dog for over 11 years and not once have I had anything bad happen.stupid, irresponsib l owners make bad dogs.the saying holds true PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED!it's not the dogs fault,it's just too bad we have cruel and mean people out there in this world.
What is wrong with people, specifically Sue Wilson Beffort. Maybe she should consider spending some time with a few pit bulls and see how they are the most loving and loyal dogs a person could own. When are they going to start blaming the owneers of these dogs. There is always a reason why an attack happens, unfortunate but they do happen but I 100% believe that it is the owners neglect or stupidty. We live in a really sad world if this is allowed.. Maybe they should have a special license and permit to own a pit bull. I dont know. This may help the wrong people getting a hold of the dogs for fighting. my little jack russell terrier was alot more vicious then my pit bull. So what next they are going to ban those also? PEOPLE NEED TO OPEN THEIR EYES
THE BIGGEST TRUTH BEHIND THE DOG. IS THE DESIRE TO PLEASE THEIR OWNER... THAT SHOULD TELL THEM RIGHT THERE WHAT IS GOING ON. THE OWNER..............LOOK INTO THE OWNER NOT THE POOR DOG THAT GOT PICKED BY THE OWNER
I have 2 pitbulls. The live with another dog of mine (only 6 lbs) and 4 cats. They all get along very well. Pitbulls are not the animals people make them out to be.
peta, and all of the tree huggers need to move to another breed.they are following suite with the tight ass european dicks.get a life.you won't believe how many beloved movie stars are part of these groups.the government needs to deal with rappiest, and murders-drugdealers,and leave us alone
i have 3 Pit Bull Terriers and they have never Showed any aggression to a human in any way at all one of them is 85 lbs. and he is the most love able dog in the world. They all love kids and adults. there is no other dog that will adapt to its invirment like a pit bull terrier they will take any abuse from a baby or any loving from a baby so the only way a "DOG" will have mean intessions is the way the "OWNER" will treat the dog.
My husband and I have owned the American Pit Bull Terrier breed since he was 2 years old and myself 10 years old. Combined we have owned this breed for 58 years. I have never owned one that has shown any signs of human aggression. If I had one that did show any unstable signs of human aggression I would humanly have it uthenized. The problem isn't the dogs but some of the irresponsible owners that have their dogs in confinements that their dogs continue escaping from. Maybe there should be some kind of law for people owning dogs.
The notion that all pit bulls are dangerous and vicious animals defies logic. If one believes each and everyone of these animals to be such a threat to society to subsequently warrant a outright ban, one would also have to agree that because one red headed person has or had an explosive temper, all people with red hair living or that have ever lived then also have the same explosive personality. In fact, if one could find evidence of just one pit bull that existed that had not harmed a person, or anything else for that matter, the theory that this breed was bred to kill goes right out the window.
Perhaps the ban should shift from the animal to the person on the other end of the leash. It seems that many of the unfortunate pit bulls that behave in an unacceptable manner have been trained to do so by their owners. It is also unfortunate that these types of people are attracted to this type of dog due to the reputation they now have thanks to these irresponsible, ignorant people that seem not to care about their pets at all. It is only logical that people who truly love and care for their pets would not encourage, nor condone behaviour that earns the dog a death sentence, and possibly an innocent child too.
hello well i don't think ya'll should do this because pitbulls are not viscous they are pet freindly and i own 2 pitbulls and are raised with my wife and 2 little girls ages 6 and 7 and they just love these dogs thank you
I HAVE SEVERAL PITBULLS, AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT THEY ALL LOVE PEOPLE. WE SHOULD ALL REMMBER THAT NAME SUE WILSON, AND GET HER OUT OF OFFICE ASAP.I AM FOR REGULATIONS ON OWNING A PITBULL. IT MAKE ME SICK THAT SOME PITBULL OWNERS DONT EVEN HAVE A GOOD FENCE IN THEIR YARD.THEIR HAS GOT TO BE ANOTHER OPTION!
My pitbull type dog has never bitten anyone ,,only tried to get kisses,&shesleeps w/my cats&me&loves to cuddle up.sometimes she gets in scraps w.my other dogs&comes out the worse for it.&soon she is back to playing great.
please dont ban pitbulls anywhere. the pits are not the problem its the owners, some of them. maybe you could just have rules to owning them. i show them and love them they are the best dog in my opinion!
Pit bulls are loving and stable dogs. However, in the wrong hands, they can become aggressive--but what dog can't? Chain a lab in the yard or lock it in the basement, and kick it whenever it licks you to 'keep it from being a wus', and it just might snap. Most pits aren't owned by monsters, and it's absalutely un-american to punish the good people who own these good dogs.
Go ahead, ban one of the most important breed of dogs in this country. Be like France and Germany. Maybe the word 'AMERICAN' in the breeds name bothers you. While you're at it Beffort. why don't you propose a bill that would put restrictions on cerain ethnic groups that tend to break the law more than others.
I have the most sweetest lil'[ girl. She is a yr and 1/2 and is loyal, smart and loves to play with my nieces/nephews- This is nonsense - these are not ony dogs...these are our family. Blame the owners-- not the BreeD!!
I have two pitbulls they are great with people & animals they are my family..And I dont think you should punish the breed!!!You need to punish the owners!!And the ones that abuse the breed..Any dog can be mean if it has a bad owner not just pitbulls are we going to start baning all large dog breed nexted??This is crazy1!!!
My pit plays w/ my 8 yr old niece, causing her to laugh uncontrollably as he gives her earnest "kisses". Yet he would not be allowed in NM or would have those "kisses" muzzled? Why not ban all Mexicans at the same time, or all Saudi Arabians? This breed specific legislation is akin to race specific legislation, something I'd hoped we as a country had moved past.... Please check your facts, Senator. There are numerous other breeds that bite and attack w/ more frequency than "pit-bulls", so if you choose to remain steadfast in this ignorant stance, why not target those breeds first? You've got chihuahas, golden retrievers, etc. Let's see you ban all these breeds, and then maybe you'll see you're barking up the WRONG tree. Punish those who abuse their animals, regardless of breed. May I also suggest informing yourself on the breed you which to ban, as ignorance is always the driving force behind this sort of legislation. You'll find that human aggresiveness was virtually bred out of "pit-bulls" over a hundred years ago. They had to be handled by many people in dog fights (trainer, vet, etc.), and any dog who bit a person was put down, regardless of the pain they were in when they did it. This is a beautiful, stoic, loving breed of dog, and the people who abuse them should be punished, not the dog itself.
My mommy and daddy bought me a pit bull named Deja. Deja loves to give me kisses and I giggle and pat her.I love my Deja! I am five and a half months old and my Deja is a year old.
I have heard of 2 attacks this week by saint bernards...one required 25 stitches...the other over 200 + you need to punsh irrisponsible owners...not the entire breed of dogs
I am getting tired of all these bans about pitbulls. I own a beautiful female that would not hurt a fly. The use of pits for dog fighting and the dogs mistreatment is the cause of any aggression. A dog like mine that is well trained and socialized will be a productive pet in our society.
What will it take for uneducated people to want to understand and learn before such terrible laws are put in to place any where in this world. Learn about the breed and punish those that abuse them..
Prayer of a Pit Bull
Spirit in the sky, who watches over all animals:
It is my prayer and my request that you grant greater understanding,
and acceptance to humans;
those who love us, and those who hate us.
That they will know how loyal we are, how brave we are,
and how loving we are. Help them to accept us as a breed in whole,
and not let the few tragedies shine brighter than the many great traits that we have.
And those who would kill me, let them know,
I forgive them, even though I don’t understand their hatred.
And those who would beat me, let them know I still love them,
even though it is not the honorable way.
Thank you for all the strong traits that you have given to me, and my breed.
Help those to know that I stand for courage, strength, loyalty, and bravery.
And as my master already knows,
let those who would come against my family know that I would surely die defending them.
And just one last thing that I would ask:
Let my master know, that if you should call me away,
that I will wait patiently at those pearly gates until the one who chose me, comes home.
Amen.
I think it's wrong to blame the breed when we as humans are the ones who train them to be what they are. If the animal acts in a wrong manner then the trainer is to blame not the animal. Just like if our kids turn out to be some threat to other's we blame the parents who train and raised them in a wrong manner. Be a smarter and opened minded person. LATER........
This is unconstitutional -- how can you ban a specific breed because of bad owners -- don't punish responsible pitbulls/owners for other's ignorance. This is the best breed I have ever owned. I personally have been bit more by German Shepards than ANY other breed. Why don't you ban that breed?
I firmly believe that if there is an incident involved with ANY breed the owners should be punished -- they are the ones who raised the animal to be vicious.
Please do not ban this breed. If you love, nurture, and are responsible with your animal it shows. Punish the stupid human - not the dog!
To allow any one breed to be ban is to ban, neuter and spay a certain race of people, take for instance Iraqis ?! They should be neutered just because they are of a certain ethnic background ?? No, but Saddam Hussien had modified thier behavior to his liking. Get the Idea now ?? Good !! Now you can obviously see how close minds lead to HITLER like behavior.
Please do not let the lawmakers who are ignorant of this breed control our rights to own and love any dog we choose. Lawmakers should spend more time cracking down on owners who are treating their dogs inhumanely than trying to control something they do not understand. The Cocker Spaniel bites more people in the United States each year than any other breed. Why not ban them? Just because a PitBull is more powerful than most other breeds does not mean they should be exterminated. PitBulls are intelligent loyal protectors and will die protecting their families, but I guess a Cocker Spaniel biting someone doesn't sell as many newspapers...
I have owned a few pit bulls and I have NEVER had one hat has bitten anyone. They are more loyal than people in most cases. Punish the dog abusers and fighters not the breed itself. We have a 1st amendment right to own as we choose. Who are you to try and take that away from us? The next thing that will be banned is the way we can wear our hair or the number of children that we can have! It's not the dog, it's the way that are bred, taught, live. MUCH LIKE HUMANS!!
I agree with the majority of the people who have signed this petition. The owner of any animal should be responsible for it's behavior. The dog will only be as good as the training and love and attention it receives. My daughter raises pit bulls and hers are loving and great with kids. Any dog can be dangerous, it all depends on how it was trained and it's owners responsibility for the animal.
Our AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIERS are devoted family members and once was a symbol of our great country the United States of America . It is hard to believe that a breed we have devoted many years of our lives to might become an endangered breed. Our dogs are therapy dogs plus have titles in conformation plus have a CGC certificate (canine good citizen) meaning that they can associate and interact with all humans as well as other breeds.
Time to pull together and stop BSL in its tracks. distroying a breed is not the answer. We should be working on finding a way to enforce responsible owner ship. Thats where the real problem is.
The banning of any breed of dog is wrong. A properly raised Pit is as much a good pet as any other breed so should not be discriminated against because of ill mannered, unsocialized relatives.
I am pretty sure that pits are not the only ones biting. There are more cases of other dogs biting like german sheperds that there are cases of pits. I dont even like pitbulls nor would I own one. But I petition the right of others to own one.
