i have owned this breed for 12 years now and have admired it for 15 years, never once was i bit by these wonderful dogs and nor has anybody else , my cats get along great with the dogs and the dogs could care less , it is soo wrong to ban this breed of dog because of the actions of others , dont you realize that the bad guys will just pick another breed to ruin next ? you are promoting this to happen! its the owners , not the dogs that need to be looked at , please understand this concept ,. and apply it to use before you resort to ban them , thank you
Punish the criminals who abuse these animals and your problem will go away. Of course a bunch of bureaucrates wouldn't want to put forth the time or effort to actually do the right thing...they just want to do whatever is easiest no matter how in-effective it will be just so they can say they did something. Banning pitbulls won't make anyone any safer, the drug dealers and dog fighting raquets will just use other breeds such as Akitas, rottweilers, and carne corsos. Make dog fighting a FELONY, and legally prohibit anyone with a felony conviction of any kind from owning American Pitbull Terriers, Rottweilers, etc. By placeing the blame where it actually belongs the problem will be effectivley corrected.

You should punish the owner not the breed. I have a 3 year old American Pit Bull Terrier and she is a wonderful dog and has saved my life many times, she is also a therapy dog.
I think it is extremely cruel to get rid of entire breed.Animals were put down on this earth for a purpose and the purpose wasn't for us to send a breed to extinction.
Even though I am only 15 years old I have come to love and trust Pit Bulls. My mother has signed this patition as well. I have owned Pit Bulls all of my life. I didn't even know abput all of the hype and rumors of Pit Bulls untill I was about 8 years old. To me my dogs were my friends and protectors. Im getting tired of walking my dogs down the street and getting meen looks from ignorant people. My dogs have never hurt any one. I have friends come over all the time and sleepover, my friends love them. At times people make me cry, because they tell me that I am a bad person for owning Pit Bulls. I love Pit Bulls more than any thing or any one on the earth. Please if you want to stop dog bites and attacks make harsher laws on the dog owners. Pit Bulls are just like kids. If they have bad parents that do not teach them wrong from right how they supposed to know what to do. I saw a show that rated poodles as the number one naturally agressive dogs. Chihuahuas were the third agressive.Pit Bulls weren't even in the top 5. You never hear any one calling poodles vicouse or chihuahuas. So please dont hurt any one from not being able to see how wonderful this breed of dog is. Don't believe all the hype you here. You rarley here anyone talking about how much good Pit Bulls have done. When Pit Bulls are even in American History , the first war dog was an American Pit Bull Terrier. There is so much more that good that Pit Bulls have done, I could go on and on for days.

Dear Mrs Sue Wilson Benfort, we have ouned Pitbulls for 18 years and never have had any problems. Our Pit Bulls have helped my children stay out of trouble by keeping them busy taking care of them and showing them. My 15 year old duaghter and 18 year old son have been raised with Pit Bulls since they were babies. When they were little, as my Pit Bulls were sleeping they would jumpn on them, pull their ears, and bug them. Not one time did my Pit Bulls get agressive. My Pit Bulls keep us happy , healthy, and young. We have owned Pit Bulls for 18 years. Experience is talking to you. Pit Bulls are our lives. Bad irresponsible owners should be punished not the breed of dog. God help you to understand. I will add you in my prears for you to understand the truth. Believe it or not we pray in this family for all Pit Bulls in the workd. That's how much we LOVE and TRUST Pit Bulls.

WE as americans got to stop things like hunting and stuff like that,just remember all dogs bite and can be dangerous,i saw Mr Ceasar Milan biten on tv by a troubled Chihuahua,so dont single out one breed to be the scapegoat for all.I remember when people used german shepard and doberman for watch dogs and they had the rep. the apbt got now,but with people dedicated to the breed that was turned around.so dont be trigger happy,read and think things through reading is KNOWLEDGE
I have 2 pits right now. They are the most lovable dog I have ever own. They are great with my 2 kids. It is not the dogs fault it is how they are raised

To state that a breed of dog can not live in NM is a shame. If people are not educated as to why this is wrong, they will do it in other states and there will be more underground rings and pit bulls being brought into NM.
i own a 2 year old pit bull and he is the best friend to my husband myself and most importanally my 4 children. If a ban should be made it should be on the irresponsible people who mistreat these gentle, loving, beautiful,and protective family members. In my home my apbt is not a dog but a son. It is not right to ban the dogs,for some thing the people want to do.The best way to fight any crime is to educate the people.I like foot ball,Boxing,Sky diveing,white water rafting and the US Armey. You say that our dogs are dangerous but obvious you don't know anything about these dogs because if you did you would know that they are the most loyal and trustworty animals on the planet they will protect you from a preditor and watch your children play. But they will never harm anybody unless the owner then who is guilty of what there animal has done. I say punish the person behind the deed not the breed. just like people these dogs can only do what they are tought. if you cherish and love your pitbull as we do you will now that they would never harm a person. I have to say you have never spent time with these animals because i have three children and my youngest is a toddler and my dog would never harm a hair on him. before you consider banning an animal you know nothing about why don't you do your homework and find out what there all about. talk to people who breed these dogs and people who own them so you could see the true side to these animals.
banning pitbulls "is" a form of raceisum".there are always other options then banning ones pet/member of their family.it is best not to punish all for the faults of some......all problems need to be dealt with on a person to person basis,tougher punishment for those who abuse,neglet,fight their dogs or for irresponsible owners

If this breed was so vicious, so horrible and with there being millions of pitbulls in the US alone, wouldn't there be more fatalities, million to be exact to match the millions of Pits in the US, than just the handful we hear about on the news? Think about it. There are dog bites every day, but only the one that resembles a pitbull gets broadcasted on the news. What about the female pitbull who led her young owner (10 year old boy) down from the mountains after he got lost?

The idea of banning pit bulls comes from an ignorant, uneducated mind. The idea of banning any living thing just seems to be unethical. By banning this breed of dog, not only would you be denying humans an oportunity to enjoy a loving animal, but destroying the future of this breed. If this starts in one place, it will eventually try to spread throughout. You are purposefully sending this breed into extinction. Many people have a bad perception of this animal b/c of people like you. You only advertise the bad and never the positive(just like any other news). If any person, such as yourself did their research, you would learn that this breed came about originally to be a true companion to a person and for herding purposes. They eventually were bread for fighting which gave them a bad name. But who created the fighting breed? Humans did, to satisfy their bordom, for entertainment. These dogs did not do it on their own. We were responsible for that. But these dogs will always have a sense of loyalty to humans like they always did. It is their instinct to, just as it is to become agressive if provolked. But if the pit bull, like any other dog, is trained to be mean, then it will be. Again, this is the owner's fault. If you are going to stereotype this animal and punish it for it's characteristics, which again are enhanced by what the owner decides to teach it, then what about people. I don't see anyone trying to ban all the young, white, male teenagers who might shoot at random. Why not ban all hispanics or those of Mexican decent because they may become involved in a violent gang and kill people. Possibly the African Americans that are seen at the store because they look like they might steel something. In no way do I feel all people are a certain way, nor animals. I think you seriously need to reconsider the ban, and think about making punishments moreharsh for the people who own any breed of dog that attacks a person, including Chihuahua's which have more bites to their names than any other breed of dog. The American pits have been singled out due to their ability to cause more serious harm. This is not fair to all of the other dogs who are raised to be loyal and respect all humans. This is as bad as saying that all women would have eatten from the bad tree in the garden of Eden. Not true is it?
My Pitbulls are a joy to my family. I would not own any other type of breed. To criticize a pitbull & to believe all pitbulls are all mean, you are accussing every african american man who resembles OJ Simpson...a killer. Banning pitbulls will not solve the 'pitbull mauling' problem. Harsher punishment for drug dealers, dogfighters and backyard kennels is the only way to keep this breed safe. Responsible owners of pitbulls, like myself, are absolutely enraged when 'uneducated people' believe that these dogs are 'monsters.' Any dog can be trained to hurt another animal or individual. Stop slapping the hands of drug dealers, stop sending them out to the streets to deal again....put them in jail.

Statistical evidence has shown that a Lab or Border Collie bites humans far more then Pit Bulls but I don't see anyone trying to ban them. Look it up check your facts. Pit Bulls account for less then 2 percent of all reported dog bites.
