The Town of Wasaga Beach has grown dense in recent years and the bon fires, (leisure fires, open burning), both legal and illegal are creating an unacceptable amount of air pollution.

We are asking the Mayor of Wasaga Beach and Council to formally recognize the growing pollution problem, and we are requesting that the BY-LAW TO REGULATE THE SETTING OF FIRES IN OPEN AIR WITHIN THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF WASAGA BEACH be changed to prohibit burning within the Town Boundaries.

I do not support this petition. I have visited, stayed at Campsites & lived in Wasaga Beach. Wasaga Beach is a Cottage/Beachfront get-a-way, from the city. If you bleeding heart complainers don't like the tourism, cottages & the like... then why the F'n hell did you move there? .... and if you don't like it... MOVE... Innisfil or Lindsay would love to have you...

Ignorance of the By-Law is no excuse. These people are well aware that burning is not permitted. We have neighbours that burn garbage all the time. The By-Law Dept. has attended and issued

I have to say that after reading the previous comment, I fully agree with that guy. I think he hits things right on the head with this issue. I honestly believe that all everyone does in this town is complain, but no one has the smarts to sit down and logically think things through. I am youth in this town and I even see this. Now I want to be clear that I don't like the polluting as much as the next guy, but I honestly don't believe that ruining everyones privileges is the right way to go. i honestly believe that there are other ways to deal with this. And most importantly is to have more by-law staff on duty at all times so that they can actually be on patrol to catch these people. Lets face it folks, if we look at where any of us work, you take 90% of the staff away and do you think you will have a chance to get things completed and properly? I didn't think so. I think if we actually spend the cash to get the right amount of qualified personnel, this would not be an issue. However this means that our municipal government will have to raise taxes and of course no one is going to rush out to do that. So to recap I think that we have the laws in place, so petitioning to make new ones are useless. I think the solution is to increase our by-law staff and their resources so that they can adequately do their jobs. I think 1 full time officer in the winter months is disgraceful and frankly doesn't surprise me. Furthermore I would like to remind everyone that this is a summer tourist town. The only industry this town has had, has and will ever have is tourism. Now I know alot of you have moved up and are unhappy, but lets face it, you certainly knew what kind of town this was before you purchased your home. My family certainly did, and we accepted the inconveniences that came with that. I am not saying that is an excuse to be dishonest and commit illegal acts, but surely banning all fires in this town is not the way to go, especially for our only indus

I really think that what we need to start doing is electing competiten municipal officials. I was really annoyed when I heard nothing more than complaints about the garbage burning issue in the last municiple elections. With this, the issue of the by-law department being inefficient was also raised as the problem. Incidentally, I noticed that no one candidate awknowledged that the by-law department had 1 full time officer on duty between november and May. How could 1 person effectively enforce the by-laws already in existence to stop garbage burning? they can't. They can barely control the parking problems and the mysterious loud noises coming from the caribou trail area. I think that instead of blaming the department and the laws in place, our elected politicians should start giving them the resources that they need to properly do thier jobs. Petitions like this and writing all these laws or sicking Darlene Watters on this isn't going to get the job done! It's time to hit the root of the actual problem, in that there isn;t enough by-law officers on staff to adequately enforce the current laws we have in place. So I say to all of you, don't let Ms. Watters go about and start petitions to restrict us of our right to have nice small bonfires for recreational use in our own yards because everyone is too stupid to realize the real problem here. Lets all try to use some common sense and do somehting good for this town.

I support this petition because I feel that the town should enforce any and all by-laws. Obviously people know they will not be fined, even if the by-law officer comes,so they keep on burning. It's not fair to other families that live close by. Many times we have had to close our windows because of the smoke. Let's hope we get some new council members who are not afraid to act on our behalf. Lillian Phillips

This is just a disgrace. How can our town not enforce the by-laws that are established by council. As I'm running for Deputy-Mayor, I will, if elected ensure that all by-laws are enforced to ensure that our residents are protected. Why create a by-law then not enforce it. You have my support on this issue.

it's a health hazard for me because I'm allergic to wood smoke and have to keep my doors and windows closed whenever anyone is burning wood in the neighborhood.

because us who live here seem to be put at the end of the line, I think that is terrible. We pay taxes and it seems to me that the town is more considerate to the tourists than to us. I agree with this petition and hope it does some good.

Darlene. Thank you for validating our sanity. The by law office in this town is incapable of implementing the laws that we have paid to have written and enforced. We too have been branded complainers and trouble makers. We too have not one but two neighbors that like to create backyard fires - sometime huge! We have suffered the indignity of being told not to bother calling, that we are trying to start a neighborhood war. We have suffered barking dogs 24x7, pool pot parties and jungle busters and we are emotionally wounded that our new home, Wasaga Beach, seems to want to continue to court the party animal attitude so prevelent here in the 60s. If you have the energy and enthusism to run for for office you will certainly have our suppport. Please tell me, what can I do to help! Thank you Stephen Bridgett 86 Wildwood Drive.

We support this petition 150%!! What other urban community allows open fires in backyards? Calling the bylaw office does no good. Some people honestly don't understand the bylaw, while others know they can get away with burning anything. Banning outdoor fires of any kind within town limits is the only bylaw people will understand. Thank you Darlene Watters for your efforts.

I support this petition for two reasons, the first being I sympathise with the neighbors who have to put up with this. It is very clear that there is absolutely NO awareness of the environmental hazzard these people are creating. The second reason is that we have also had numerous calls placed to the by-law department over NOISE pollution. We were also given the run around and got accused of "crying wolf". I think it's a shame to have such a lovely town to live in but with a by law department that seems to have little concern over the quality of life that we as citizens of Wasaga beach lose everytime they do not deal with these issues.
