I support this petition. My husband depends on the bus service from Ypsilanti to get to work in Ann Arbor. Cutting service would be taking a huge step in the wrong direction and will further isolate Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti residents.
I support this petition. If Ypsilanti cuts bus transportation to Ann Arbor now it is severing an economic lifeline that will cause further fiscal damage to the city. As usual, those in most need are the first sacrificed.
As a resident of Ypsilanti, I believe the City should find a way to continue funding the AATA. Many city residents rely on the AATA for transportation to work, school, and for medical needs. My wife is one such person. I support this petition.
I support this petition. I was all set to move from Ann Arbor to Ypsi until I heard about possible cuts to the bus service. These cuts would kill the city's already faltering economy.
I support this petition. I've been riding the bus for the past 6 years to work every day. This would be an incredibly dire situation for a large number of people who live in Ypsilanti and work in Ann Arbor.
I support this petition. As a student who works in the cafeteria I know how many of its employees depend on this system to get to and from work. I understand the detrimental impact that the elimination of those routes would cause.
I support this petition. I work in one of U of M's cafeterias and many of my fellow employees use the transit system to get to work. Not only does cutting funding put their livelihoods in jepordy it makes them appear as if they are insignificant members of the community which is far from the truth.
I support this petition. The Ypsi government should be spending its energy on fighting for its fair share of state revenues, not cutting a service vital to many residents.
I support this petition. Ypsilanti, as every other city, has residents that depend on public transportation. It is unfair to cut this system; this may mean cutting peoples' jobs (how would they get to jobs in Ann Arbor or other neighboring towns?) Please do not leave people without transit.
I support this petition. The AATA is such a high quality service that should be expanded, not cut. Public transport is the first step to breaking our oil addiction. I agree with everything people have already said.
The AATA allows me to work in the Ypsilanti community and with public schools. I depend on the route daily and could not have accepted my current job position without this bus service. I believe the social and economic divide will grow even more dramatically between these communities without the continued affordable and reliable transportation between them that the AATA provides.
I was going to move to Ypsi, from AA but if the buses are going to be cut, then i will move their. I am sure there has been a lot of work put into the budget reductionc, but in cutitng a basic transportation would have a negative impact on teh community.
AATA is a widely used service that reduces pollution and provides transportation to those without reliable vehicles. Eliminating the service would be detrimental to the Ypsi economy and many of its inhabitants. please reconsider.
This form of transportation is detrimental to all who reside in both Ypsi & A2 for both economic and diversity reasons. Is this not going to segregrate our populations even further? I bet you could sell the Riverside arts center for a lot more than $170,000 effecting all 200 people who visit it every month or two in order to support the hundreds who rely on the AATA for their livelyhood. And yes, I'm an artist who has shown both in A2 and Ypsi!
I'm a City of Ann Arbor employee and live in Ypsilanti. I use the AATA bus system 3 to 4 day a week and consistantly ride with 30 to 40 other people morning and night who also depend on the service.
Cutting Ypsilanti-Ann Arbor's AATA system has a variety of negative effects including 1) limiting housing options for students and employees of both communities, 2)increased traffic and pollution, and 3) startling increases in separation between these two communities, and polarization of the haves and the have-nots. Please do not cut public transporation!
I use AATA on a daily basis and although I don't ride to Ypsilanti this year, last year I lived out on the border of Yspilanti and Ann Arbor and would have had no way to get to school at UofM if is wasn't for route 4.
I support this petition.
Ann Arbor's public transit system is bad enough as it is. Closing the bus line will cut off anyone who can't (or doesn't want to) have a car. I'm sure there are better ways the city can cut costs. Don't let it be discontinued!!
I support this petition.
Surely there's at least one minor corporate tax break in Ypsi that could be returned to the citizens of this area to cover the measly $170K in Ypsi budget dollars that supports this important public service.
I support this petition.
Many people who work at the Universities require these bus routes to get to work due to the parking shortages. Public transportation also helps eliminate some of the traffic congestion we face in these busy cities, helps the environment and is a less expensive alternative than using a car.
If AATA is too 'expensive' for Ypsi, perhaps a better alternative would be to contact Eastern to work out a deal similar to the AATA/U-M deal and cut the city's cost.
