I support this petition. I have to ride the bus everyday to get to and from work and I don't have a car nor do I have money to get one right now. Please keep the bus systems running, we really need it.
As a professional who lives in downtown Ypsilanti and works in Ann Arbor, I use these bus routes several times each day. An integral part of any thriving city's infrastructure is its public transportation system. Cutting these necessary services would not only impede the independence of many, including students, lower income people and those with handicaps; it very well might open the city up to a costly class action suit brought by those who count on the bus system as their reliable transportation to schools, businesses, hospitals, shopping and other venues.
Governmental subsidies exist to supplant public transportation and encourage intra-city transportation. Unless Ypsilanti is willing to forego the property taxes charged to long-term residents who would face having to relocate closer to work and necessary services; and unless the city is willing to increase the amount paid annually by the department of education for the safe transport of students currently using the AATA bus lines, I urge the city to re-think their stance. I also wonder how the city believes that restoration and rejuvenation of the Downtown area will succeed without a thriving bus system.
Lastly, living a block away from the AATA Pearl Street station, I worry what disarray that property will fall into without the constant upkeep that having an active bus terminal demands of that property.
Please continue bus service to Ypsilanti..this great service allowed us to remain a one car family while my husband commuted to work in AA. It's a valuable and valued service.
I support this petition because outside of your own vehicle or a costly cab ride, public transportation is the primary source of travel for many students, seniors and low income residents in the city. Why would you discontinue service to the sister-city with the greatest need of it?
I support this petition. I use the service from time to time. It enables those of us without transportation to retain some of our independence. It also allows many people to work and earn an income to support themselves and their families.
I support this petition.
I've just purchased my first home in the fair city of Ypsilanti. I work for U of M and had planned on using the AATA transportation system to get to and from work. Staff stickers for the structures on U of M's campus now are flirting with the $600 range. This would be a very convenient transportation system, and was a point I took into consideration while I had been house hunting all last summer ('04/'05)
I support this petition. Public transportation is a dire need in this area. By allowing people to be more involved in their environments, it is an important part of social justice.
I support this petition. This is an extremely important issue. Please tell all of yours friends. The connection of the bus routes between Ann Arbor and Ypsi is vital to too many people; they (we) rely on it!
I totally support this petition, in a developing city such as Ypsilanti, public transportation is vital to its continued economic growth, it helps those employed by AATA, persons without a means of personal transportation, and it is very convenient in dealing with downtown areas where parking is often too expensive and or limited. Please keep the buses serving the Ypsilanti community at large.
Not only is this service a necessity for those who, for whatever reason, don't have access to means of personal transportation- but it is vital to any developing and expanding city like Ypsilanti.
With obvious parking and traffic congestion issues in both Ann Arbor and Ypsi - the bus is just a good idea all around.
People should be able to rely on a great public service like this!
I support this petition. Without this bus services people wouldnt have a way to travel around. The AATA is a good thing for young and older people without a transportation.
I support this petition. I have a handicaped son who ride all over Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor by bus. It his way to and from work. Without the bus he would unable to work.
