The economic opportunities of Ypsilanti's populace, and consequently the potential for revenue streams for the city, are entirely dependent on the mobility of the citizenry. Keep the workers and the money moving. Maintain bus service in Ypsilanti.
I support this petition. Many core businesses and industries that support the Ann Arbor community are located in Yspilanti or Pittsfield Township, and visa versa. To remove bus service between these communities makes it impossible for persons with disabilities (who are not able to drive for *any* reason) to reach these core services. This would require that both communities create duplicate services or offer an alternate form of subsidized transportation. That sounds less cost effective than maintaining AATA service.
I support this petition. Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti strive to be 'green' communities and extensive, affordable public transit is a key component. Bus service to Ypsilanti is crucial!
What am I supposed to do? I live in Ypsilanti, use the #5 bus, and have no car. Am I supposed to look for affordable housing in Ann Arbor? That doesn't exist. Even if I do find it, it feels wrong to leave Ypsilanti when it needs residents and revenues the most!
I support this petition.
Public trasportation is one of the most important assets of society, and it is especially important for students and other people who cannot afford other forms of transportation.
