I support this petition 100%!!! I used to catch the bus daily from Ypsi to Ann Arbor for work. Many people are still doing the same. This is one of the most evident attempts at eliminating the poor from the two cities as well as keeping Ann Arbor seperate from its neighboring communitites. Aside from able bodied individuals in economic hardship many other people rely on the bus service and cannot afford taxi fare! Keep the busses moving from Ypsi to Ann Arbor!!
I support this petition. The elimination of bus service between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti clearly discriminates against the less fortunate in both cities. Ypsilanti's city counsil is demonstrating a pattern of activities designed to eliminate the poor people and benefit those with higher incomes. Elimination of bus service along with downsizing of Midtown and who knows what other plans points to am agenda designed to force out all but the most wealthy residents. Just where are they all supposed to go?
This proposal is outrageous and will have a significant economic impact both on Ann Arbor and Ypsi. I used to use all of the routes in question on a daily basis and I assure you they are important for our larger community.
I support this petition. Many people don't drive so AATA is the only means of transportation. Please conside those students, parents, seniors, disable and others who really need this service to get to and from school, doctor appt. and other meaningful places.
I support this petition. Elminating the bus service would only increase traffic and parking congestion and abandon those people who have no alternative mode of transportation.
These cities are strongly linked, and some of it is economically based. The buses between them are a vital necessity for many.
They help to enrich both communities.
I support this petition. Everyone in Ypsilanti relies on the buses. Do not cut the service. Maybe stop the service at an earlier time in the day. Say around 6-8pm.
Hasn't Ypsi already seen enough blight? Ypsi already has the lowest per capita income in the county...taking away an opportunity for Ypsi's carless citizens to get to work, etc on the bus would be sensless. I support this petition.
I support this petition.
I live in Ypsi and get to work on the #4 bus. Every morning that particular bus fills up very quickly. To consider eliminating this extremely useful service, especially considering such factors as high gas prices, and the scarcity and expense of parking in Ann Arbor, is the height of foolishness. Please do not cut this bus routes to, and presumably in, Ypsilanti.
For a city that wants to decrease its parking problems and lower its contribution of greenhouse gases, Ann Arbor is sure going about it in a strange way. Not to mention that this hits the poorer folks in both Ann Arbor and Ypsi the hardest. Neither a fair nor a wise proposition to my mind.
I rely on the #5 (and sometimes #4) bus to get to work in Ann Arbor. We as a community should be trying to encourage more people to take mass transit, not taking the option away.
Having no car and living on the edge of the town I rely heavily on the public transit system(#4&5). With the oil crisis constant threat and lack of parking downtown a wellknown fact the plans to shut down several bus routes seems most irresponsible. It reflects either complete ignorance or neglect of status quo. I would therefore suggest a counteroffer - those who propose this change should try live in AA without a car so that they can better assess the importance of bus service for everyday life.
When compared with other budget-cutting proposals, this one clearly causes disproportionate harm to only one segment of our community. Eliminating mobility for those that don't have it is a terrible idea, and the projected savings are not worth it. I support the petition.
Getting rid of the Ypsi-A2 routes is ridiculous. It's already hard enough to get people to want to move to/live in Ypsi. This would strike another blow.
In its attempt to be a progressive, attractive-to-younger- people city, Ypsi support of public transportation is imperative. It's good for the environment, it's good for Ypsi citizens, and it's good for Ypsi.
I ride the #4 bus every day at 7.00 in the morning and by the time it hits Arborland, it's usually standing-room-only on a bus that runs every 15 minutes. How are those people supposed to get to work? Walk?
