Taking money away from Social Security cannot stabilize the funds. Keeping politicans out of Social Security Funds will help promote the welfare of all Americans in retirement through the system.
The stereotype of slimy the slimey politician will never change until more of them start doing what's right for their constituents & not themselves & their donors.
If you live in PA, SAY NO TO SANTORUM IN '06.
Let's get our priorities straight -- for all levels of society -- not just for people of privilege. A mark of a society's health is how it regards its more struggling members.
Leave Social Security alone. Instead enact legisation suggest as inexpensive prescription drugs and increasing minimum wage. Let's take care of the people less fortunate than you, for Christ's sake!
I hope someone will listen.. all that seems to be happening is the rich are getting richer and those of us struggling to make ends meet are losing out!
I am single with 2 boys and paycheck to paycheck living is tough, not to mention I am doing it all for nothing since I will have no SS IF I ever get to retire!! How can folks not be poverty ridden if you can not pay!!
I agree that the 88,000 salary cap on Social Security should be lifted and that the Social Security fund needs to be left alone and not continually borrowed from.
Besides that, Social Security should not be changed and the system should be left intact.
The government has been ('borrow') spending the Social Security funds for decades. Write congressional member & request they work toward the government repaying the 'borrowed' funds.
Also, raise the FICA ceiling from $80,000 to $200,000.
And, have government officials & employees pay into the FICA (back date to when they took office & work)& live on Social Securty.
With all the outright lies he has told and all the cuts he is touting, how can this president call himself Christian? I have never in all my years seen so much selfishness and corruption in our government. I'm more frightened of my own government than I am of the terrorists!! When you have a one party system (which we now have) joined with corporations (some of them met to discuss who THEY wanted to tell the president to put into his cabinet) and a media afraid to speak the truth (and they surely are) you do not have Democracy...you have FASCISM!!! Look it up!! This president would have this country sink into a two class society - the haves and have nots. Since
i feel the minimum wage should be based on the cost of living not survival. the wage should increase to $25.00 per hour. it will help to balance the big gap between wealth and poverty. as well as other internal issues our country faces, such as welfare. there wouldn't be a need for it, except in extreme cases, people would make enough wages to pay rent, bills, and save for other wants. we have too many organizations making money to give to the poor. it isn't helping them. its keeping them in the same position making any thing less than $25.00 per hour is an insult. it lowers morale and is contributing to the high depression and obesity rates. when you knock one domino down, all follow suit.
I am young and this issue is very near to my heart and future. I cringe at the idea of privatizing SS and all the people who live hand to mouth not having anything to support them in their old age. Plus, I have read many articles disproving Bush's portrayal of the Social Security System as going backrupt in the next 2 decades. I vote for returning the taxes of the richest %2 and increasing the max tax liability from $90,000 to at least $140,000.
I believe that is well past the time where we should all heed the call of Peter Finchs' character Howard Beale, in the movie Network(1976), to run to your windows and yell, "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore." Lets' not take this like Lemmings! No more lies Mr.(not my Pres.) Bush
Social Security was not a crisis until this administration took over. Does W remember the surplus with the "DO NOT TOUCH" money that was put aside for social security. Of course not he spent it.
They say bush is the anti christ and I am really starting to believe IT, Bush, cheney, Rumsfeld, and the whole clan are EVIL,and destructive! IMPEACH! IMPEACH!IMPEACH!
This is just another twist to the re-enactment of the "so-called" CHRISTIANS fighting over the "golden calf" while MOSES was on Mt. Sinai receiving the TEN COMMANDMENTS from "GOD"! Only, THIS TIME, it is "LIVE" and "IN LIVING COLOR"!!!!!!!!!
Even though George Bush is promising not to cut the Social Security benefits for people 55 and older why is there an asteriks on the bottom of the page that reads (Congress has made changes to the law in the past and can do so at any time.)
After scaring us with weapons of mass destruction to get us into a war that seems like it will never end for our soldiers, I am loosing faith in our government and feel they are becoming more dishonest. Stop trying to privatize Social Security and by the way don't cut any more benefits for our Veterans!!!!!
For my entire life, I've been told I live in the greatest, wealthiest, most powerful country in the world. As I enter into adulthood, I wonder how to reconcile that statement with the poor, the hungry, the sick, the uneducated and under-educated, the homeless, and the unemployed and worse, the under-employed. We have been the greatest, and can become so again. But not on this road. Do not privatize social security. Increase the min. wage. Address our healthcare problem. While considering all of these things, it would be great if you actually took into account the people these programs are designed to benefit, rather than how to benefit some corporation's bottom line.
We as citizens of this here united state's need to stand up to this ideological agenda, of the far right of this republican party. I can still here Knewt Gingrich saying to corporate america or the (contract of America) that Social Security should dwindle on the vine. And how disgraceful the Quote on Quote Tax break made permanent, which is the substitute to replace Social Security. The worst part of this white house is the spinning of obscured truths with no evidence of facts to back up in His re-election, on His opponent John Kerry
Here you are, you hypocrites in Congress, telling us to 'take ownership' (meaning reduce our benefits and let corporate america loot our country) while you feed off the very same programs you want to eliminate for us (who pays YOUR healthcare, Mr. Congressperson?)
George W Bush and company have made a joke out of our country- One can only hope that with the coming elections the people will wake-up to the facts and stop acting like lambs being led to slaughter
Social Security would be ok today if there wern't so many ways for it to be tapped by something other than social security. Also, the "baby boomers" out number those that came later, with the "replace yourself" movement. It is in deep trouble, and I don't have the answer but we can already set up money in accounts for retirement befor tax dollars.
$10 an hour minimum wage is a place to start, but it should have a provision to increase to $12 an hour over a period of three years. You know, of course, they will just find more ways to tax us and take it away from us. The middle class is being eliminated. The plan has been in effect for a number of years.
Social Security is not broken and is one of our most successful government programs. It should NOT be privatized--or Piratized--by a greedy administration bent on destroying people's retirement safety net.
What is happening to the Midle Class? It's dissapearing! I used to make $18/hr, full time. I now make $10/hr part-time. America is NOT the "Land of Opportunity" any longer!
Bush took us to war under false pretenses, & now he wants to save our Social Security system. I think he lacks a bit of credibility. Besides, he gets his government pension outside Social Security. I'm ready to kick this guy off OUR payroll!
The issue is that only 709 people have signed this so far. Aside from Bush banning taxpaters from public events, they are moving very swiftly to take this forward. More involvement in the roots is necessary to prevent this train wreck from occurring.
Social Secutiry is an Insurance plan not a defined contribution plan as Bush called it last week. Kids, you'd better educate yourselves and listen carefully to what snake oil salesmen are selling you. Just like WMD's this is all lies. Heaven help us all.
Privitizing social security will only add confusion, chaos, and more difficulty to social security. Keep it as it is or do away with it entirely, but do NOT privitize this thing that I pay for. It's MY money, use it how I want it used!
I'm 53 and British - I prefer governments that care for the majority - there is no one in his right mind who can say the stock market will be a good place to invest in the future. What we can say is that we will have more and more money going out to take care of natural disasters and bush's wars.
