I agree that the 88,000 salary cap on Social Security should be lifted and that the Social Security fund needs to be left alone and not continually borrowed from. Besides that, Social Security should not be changed and the system should be left intact.

The government has been ('borrow') spending the Social Security funds for decades. Write congressional member & request they work toward the government repaying the 'borrowed' funds. Also, raise the FICA ceiling from $80,000 to $200,000. And, have government officials & employees pay into the FICA (back date to when they took office & work)& live on Social Securty.

With all the outright lies he has told and all the cuts he is touting, how can this president call himself Christian? I have never in all my years seen so much selfishness and corruption in our government. I'm more frightened of my own government than I am of the terrorists!! When you have a one party system (which we now have) joined with corporations (some of them met to discuss who THEY wanted to tell the president to put into his cabinet) and a media afraid to speak the truth (and they surely are) you do not have Democracy...you have FASCISM!!! Look it up!! This president would have this country sink into a two class society - the haves and have nots. Since

i feel the minimum wage should be based on the cost of living not survival. the wage should increase to $25.00 per hour. it will help to balance the big gap between wealth and poverty. as well as other internal issues our country faces, such as welfare. there wouldn't be a need for it, except in extreme cases, people would make enough wages to pay rent, bills, and save for other wants. we have too many organizations making money to give to the poor. it isn't helping them. its keeping them in the same position making any thing less than $25.00 per hour is an insult. it lowers morale and is contributing to the high depression and obesity rates. when you knock one domino down, all follow suit.

Anna DiBenedetto said 02/09/05, 9:56 pm (verified)
I am young and this issue is very near to my heart and future. I cringe at the idea of privatizing SS and all the people who live hand to mouth not having anything to support them in their old age. Plus, I have read many articles disproving Bush's portrayal of the Social Security System as going backrupt in the next 2 decades. I vote for returning the taxes of the richest %2 and increasing the max tax liability from $90,000 to at least $140,000.

After scaring us with weapons of mass destruction to get us into a war that seems like it will never end for our soldiers, I am loosing faith in our government and feel they are becoming more dishonest. For my entire life, I've been told I live in the greatest, wealthiest, most powerful country in the world. As I enter into adulthood, I wonder how to reconcile that statement with the poor, the hungry, the sick, the uneducated and under-educated, the homeless, and the unemployed and worse, the under-employed. We have been the greatest, and can become so again. But not on this road. Do not privatize social security. Increase the min. wage. Address our healthcare problem. While considering all of these things, it would be great if you actually took into account the people these programs are designed to benefit, rather than how to benefit some corporation's bottom line.

We as citizens of this here united state's need to stand up to this ideological agenda, of the far right of this republican party. I can still here Knewt Gingrich saying to corporate america or the (contract of America) that Social Security should dwindle on the vine. And how disgraceful the Quote on Quote Tax break made permanent, which is the substitute to replace Social Security. The worst part of this white house is the spinning of obscured truths with no evidence of facts to back up in His re-election, on His opponent John Kerry

Social Security would be ok today if there wern't so many ways for it to be tapped by something other than social security. Also, the "baby boomers" out number those that came later, with the "replace yourself" movement. It is in deep trouble, and I don't have the answer but we can already set up money in accounts for retirement befor tax dollars. $10 an hour minimum wage is a place to start, but it should have a provision to increase to $12 an hour over a period of three years. You know, of course, they will just find more ways to tax us and take it away from us. The middle class is being eliminated. The plan has been in effect for a number of years.
