I support this petition. Because people who commit horrible crimes like rape and pedophillia should be known, monitoredd and people have the right to know if they and their children are safe from sexual predators.
I couldn't be more passionate about this issue, and until sex offenders are better patroled, no child in our country is safe. Cut their twinkies off, or get an ankle bracelet on.

I agree with Gregg, I was 16, she was 14 and one month over the 24 month limitation. I had no idea I would have to register till almost the age of 30. This has also hindered my career goals as I can not become a member of the armed forces and protect my country. I do not support this petition.
I truely believe that out of the half a million sex offenders in this country, a vast majority do not belong there. There are numerous people who committed these acts as a juvenile but are required to register during adulthood. This rally is not fair to neither the juvenile or the family in which they live with. Too many people in this country judge someone because of what the paper says but never knew exactly what went on. Too many juveniles become victims of the system when prosecuted for these acts. The registry should only be for adults and adults who commit acts on children alone. How can a juvenile who is a child, be charged with sexual assault on a child? That is stupid and too many people in this nation jump on a bandwagon to persecute someone who is young. The truth is, everyone has done some vile things in their teenage years. I guarantee that a great amount of petitioners committed similar acts when they were minors too. They just never got caught and they judge others for doing the same thing. Who are you people to judge?
The memory of the crime exists in the mind of the victims for life. I think the punishment for the criminal should be the same. Life in prison with no chance of parole. Not enough money to house all the criminals ?? Well, put them to work breaking up large rocks into little rocks, make license plates, pick cotton, whatever. Let THEM pay for their own imprisonment. If the punishment for crimes was more harsh, there would be less crime.

i can relate with this message! in 2001 a custody/visitation was set up. in 2007 i found out the father of my children gang raped a girl over 20 years ago and was not forced to register until 2002. im still trying to get full custody. filed a t.p.o. and judge puccinel approved it for me and not my children. what the hell!
Three of my children's father is a sex offender. He is trying to gain custody of them to keep from paying child support. He has been court ordered to pay and hasn't followed through yet. He has not been in their lives consistently. Their ages are 12, 11, and 9. He is registered in CA, where he resides as well as Florida, where we reside.Should he be allowed to get custody?
I know of several sex offenders living in a halfway house in Pensacola, FL that is within 3/4 mile of an elementary school.... It is a large number of offenders with crimes ranging from child p0rn0graphy, 2nd degree rape (principal), sexual assault, etc and it goes on and on. There are almost eighteen (18) men with this status living this close to this school. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO RESTRICTIONS ON WHO CAN LIVE CLOSE TO PLACES THAT CHILDREN CONGREGATE TO (school, playgrounds, arcades, etc)!? I am a mother of two children (ages 2 yrs and 7 yrs old) and if anyone EVER hurt my children I would be sitting in jail. Some of these high paid representatives of Florida need to do their jobs and protect their citizens that they represent!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a man that is currently plea bargaining to a lessor charge and it is totally ridiculous. He should be charged and made to register as a sex offender, I am hoping that the judge will see this and not go along with the plea bargain.
