Short staffing will equal short time, short service, short tempers, stress for staff and public alike. Make sure public servants have time to show they care for the public.
The Public Service is there to provide services and assistance to the community which we pay for with our taxes. Cut staff, means cut services, or services which are contracted out to the private sector and we will end up paying for again. How is this better for the community?
Cutting the public service will reduce services. The opposition will reduce the public service by the original amount of 29,000 if they are elected. However let us not forgot labour has cut the public service and will cut it again by 1% next financial year. This will mean jobs will be lost. Also restructures of departments will also be carried out and more jobs will be lost.
It won't take long before the NSW tax payer ends up paying double for their services once the front line professionals are forced to perform the support roles themselves.
Public service is there to provide a service to the community. If public institutions are to function they need staff to run them. We are already overworked and stretched thin. We need more staff not less. Cut military spending or money to private schools and private health funds and spend our money on services for the community.
Public service is exactly that - providing services to the public of NSW. We are an asset to the government and people of our state. You need more of us not less!
The NSW Liberal Party has said it will slash 20,000 public service jobs. This illustrates how little the Liberals care about access to high quality public education for all children, effective public transport and important public infrastructure for our community and environment. Australians demand decent public services. Debnam has also said he will hand over NSW IR powers which to Howard's unfair work laws. The NSW Liberal Party is bad news for working families!
Cutting the public service is based on the American economic and political philosophy of the Catch and Kill Your Own school of thinking: otherwise known as barbarism. I prefer the old Australian way of caring for those who have not had a fair go in life and trying to give them a helping hand. That's what the public service should mean in my view. I hate the American way of life which supports gross individualism, and I despise any politician who tries to shove it down our throats.
