The only people who will suffer are the ones with lower paid jobs. Waiting times & lines for any type of service will be bluemurder. It is very frustrating right now to wait for service.
Hands off job cuts.
The public service in NSW is on the bones of its bum now, functions will be amputated with more cuts and decrease the effectiveness of governance as the public servants are the foot soldiers of the executive arm of government.
An old political dodge..blame the workers at the coal face not the bureaucrats handing highly paid jobs and reclassifications to their mates. Debnam will be thumping the law and order tub next
I am sure that there are far more productive ways of raising short term finances than jobcutting. Please let our children enter a work force where thay are not constantly under threat because politicians need to be seen to be bot making sudden changes, and saving short term and paying in the long term.
Debnam proposes to punish people for their loyalty. Many public servants have sacrificed more lucrative opportunities for the prospect of security. We are consistently called upon to do more with less but there comes a point where there can be no more cut backs before the entire system falls over. I believe that we have reached that point.
The State Executive Service positions created by former Liberal Premier Greiner who are political appointees should be removed before any front or back office employee positions are "trimmed". In police stations where a civilian employee retires they will have to be replaced by police officers if recruiting is not permitted, this will mean taking police off the street. How can Peter Debnam propose such actions
I live in regional NSW and believe that the cuts to jobs in this area would be very harmful to the local community, whcih already has a well above average unemployment level
20,000 jobs what a joke. We have seen what cut backs have done to our rail service... Wake up Peter Debnam!! It's the little people that keep things turning.
To cut 20,000 "back room" jobs is to effectively cut 20,000 front line jobs because someone still has to do their work, or does Debnam intend to outsource these jobs...at what cost?
Paper talk (D/Telegraph 26/2/07) suggests new Lib Govt will reduce total NSW Govt Depts to 9. Which Dept's will be lost and what community services/focus be discounted.
Public service jobs have already been cut too far. Staff are struggling to provide the appropriate level of service for the community. NO MORE PUBLIC SERVICE CUTS!
Cutting the Public Service is part of a wider campaign to take services out of the public arena and hand them, as a gift, to unaccountable private tyrannies - corporations. It shows a deep hatred for DEMOCRACY.
