The public sector has already been decimated by cuts in the 1990s and the negative effects of those cuts are still evident today. Instead of cuts the sector should be rebuilt and expanded so that services can be provided to the public in a socially and morally responsible way. Having worked for many years in the sector both in frontline and policy and planning positions I agree that redistribution is required....there are far to many chiefs and not enough indians and people working in positions collecting and reporting on data to prop up ministers and managers, at the expense of the real reason the sector exists. The necessity of this work should be put under review. The sector is about providing service!!!
There have been huge cuts to administrative positions within NSWP. Whilst it is a common belief that police jobs are protected they still cost in terms of allowances and overtime which come from the NSWP budget.
Administrative positions support frontline police and therefore should not be depleted further. Freeze further cuts to administrative positions in NSWP.
If you want to save money cut down on the number of police occupying administrative positions. Further review some of the Senior Officer and SES positions in Corporate Services where big salaries are being paid for what used to be done on much lower salaries.
Further there are too many layers to the chain of command especially in the Commissioner's Inspectorate. Rationalise this and you will save money.
cutting positions that support frontline services is a direct effect on those services. What happens when a doctor needs a file and there's noone there to get it for him?
I believe we have gone backwards in service delivery, job conditions and that this federal government is destroying prospective employment opportunities our children.
Job cuts = service cuts, public sector's service should not be cut any more, there is difficulty for clerical staff to take leave because of lack of staff. service cuts in hospital it means less nurse to care for patients and it creates less care for the sick people and creates risk for their lives. please investigate the hospital service. before planning job cuts. it is not fair job cuts in certain departments only and in not all. And majority in clerical levels.
We have already seen the results of ecconomic rationalism on our health system as a result of arbitary job cuts. A civil society needs public servants, not more police. We need services not servailance.
If there is a freeze - how will we recruit new enthusiastic people into our public service? The public service is a significant vehicle to drive change in our communities - to make things better for all. We need more people to drive this change!
if anything the administrative support should increase given the extra police and nurses in the last few years....its just the usual Liberal "lets cut the public sector" rubbish - its just an excuse to privatise and outsource so the private sector can increase their profit (which actually cost the tax payer more!).
The public sector in the bush has already been cut to the point where it can no longer effectively service the community. Services provided are far more important than the bottom line.
Reducing the number of State Government Employees means less workers to answer Ministerial Enquires and subsequently more contracting out of sensitive information, possibly to overseas suppliers, who may not be able to resist the temptation of boosting profits by selling some information to those whom we would not want to have this information.
Attention both parties, stop the job cutting exercise and concentrate on getting our GST revenue back into NSW coffers. This would benefit both the community, with an increase in services, and public sector employees with job security. It also would help stop the "do more with less" policy of the current Govt.
If the Liberal party are voted in it will mean the end of jobs for public servants, emergency service workers like police, firefighters and ambulance will have their penalty and overtime rates slashed. This will have a domino effect on the NSW economy as peoples spending power is slashed. The Liberal Party embraces the dog eat dog pysche of America, where the everyday folk are broken and trodden into the ground. Anyone that votes Liberal deserves to be jailed for life.
As a front line officer I am very aware that I cannot undertake my role without the support of all those officers in the back offices. Ultimately client service will suffer.
As far as I can see services and staff are cut to the bone now. Any further cuts will affect service delivery. Cutting back on public sector services will mean that the most disadvantgaed people miss out on having even their most basic needs met. I support the public sector staff and the public that they work for.
The Public Service is a 'soft target' for cynical politicians to attack in an election, a tactic to avoid close scrutiny of their own unsavoury backroom dealings and dodgy practices. Cutting Public Sector jobs means less and poorer services for those in the community that need them the most. A just society looks after its weakest members - Does anyone in politics care about these people at all?
