I am starting a petition to stop the "epidemic" of sexual offenders and predators. Children all over the US are being sexually offended everyday. It is coming to the point where children are being taken from their own bedrooms. Parents all over the United States have to worry about who is in their neighborhoods, grocery stores and schools. Myself included. Sex offenders are all over America. We need to take the first step to take control of the situation. A typical sex offender molests an average of 117 children, most of who do not report the offense. (*National Institute of Mental Health, 1988)
8 out of 10 rapists were released prior to trial. And when they get to trial, they can spend as little as 3 years in prison. Depending on the circumstances possibly even less.
Approx. 4300 child molestors were released from prison in 15 states in 1994. An estimated 3.3% of these were rearrested for committing a sexual offense within 3 years.
60% were in prison for molesting children under 13 years old and under. There are 400,000 registered sex offenders in the United States alone.
Punishment must be severe for sex offender and predators. People are not being informed. We must be more educated on how to protect our children from predators. Registered sex offenders need to have special license plates. When I am on the road I know when someone has been charged with drinking and driving (which I should know). But we don't know there is a sex offender living on our streets we can be more cautiuos. This is a small start, but it is a start. Please sign this petition. For our children, for our future.
