I urge you to assist with the Committee to Enhance the K-12 Teaching Profession in Virginia's fourth recommendation put forth in its October 22, 2002 document entitled "Stepping up to the Plate... Virginia's Commitment to a Highly Qualified Teacher in Every Classroom."

This recommendation will help to ensure better teachers are filling the classrooms in the state of Virginia. By raising teacher salaries and benefits to a competitive level, more qualified teachers will be attracted to the industry.

When considering the future of the state of Virginia and the future of the nation, please think first of its future leaders: the children of the state of Virginia. By assisting our teachers, the students are those who benefit the most.
