Send Randy home, please sign this petition. People in Canada always seem to help out other countries and their people; i'ts now time to help one of our own. Again please sign
It's time our government started acting more on behalf of it's citizens even though they may have committed a non violent crime. Here we let murderers out after 12 years. Let Randy serve the balance of his sentence under Canadian Law since no one was hurt.
Unfortunately for Randy he comitted this crime in a country that has no Human Rights policy to speak of. He would probably be out of jail now had he committed this crime in his own country. Perhaps the latter part of the sentance could be served out in Canada.
I agree that the punishment does not suit the crime. I am sure Randy is well aware of his actions and has learned very valuable lessons immediately after being caught with possession and immediately upon realizing the consequences. I do not believe that treating a person in the way Randy is being treated is fair in any way. Imprisonment should not be an act of slowly taking someone's life away from them. I do not believe that is should be deemed as " playing God" over someone. It should foster the development of awareness to criminals so that they can return to the world with a respectable new perspective. What they are doing is inhumane and morally wrong. Sixteen years is too long. Two years in a Vietnamese prison does not even equivalent a life sentence in North America. It is too harsh and sadistic to purposefully watch a life deteriorate. Let him go home and be with his family, he has been through more than enough.
Im a friend of Alshley Kavanagh, and when I read this site, this is horrible, why the hell cant the Candaian governement do anything. I hate this stupid governement. This is the reason why i dont want to live here anymore. Canadas suposed to help people like Randy. But instead, what are they doing? Nothing! I hope this petition works and makes the governement relizes that we have a fallen man behind enemy lines. God be with Randy and his family!
I never had the privilege of knowing Randy personally but he is a well-loved young man who is being excessively punished beyond the extent of his crime to the heartbreak of his close and loving family. While I don't disagree that an appropriate punishment is deserved for the crime committed, the conditions in which he is suffering are far from humane and cannot on any level be aimed at an intended rehabilitation. Please, let Randy come home to Canada and serve the remainder of an appropriate sentence in humane conditions close to his loving family.
Officials of Vietnam.I pray that your hearts will be compassionate to your prisoners and especially this young man. I pray for a miracle that you will release him to his home country to continue his punishment there and relieve the anguish, anxieties, and pain that his family is suffering now. You may already understand that as one suffers, as these prisoners are, they become numb to most of the reality of their pains, but the family is going through a large amount of pain and are, unfortunately, too aware of their pains and nightmares. Please at least be compassionate for this mans father, mother, and family members, and release him to his home country for sentencing. I pray for a miracle that you show some compassion for the family members of this young man and release him to his country. You can help this miracle come true. I pray you will.
Please let Randy go back home. He is young and made a big mistake as young people often do.Please let him go home to serve his time in his own country. His family are very heart broken and miss him very muchas you can very well imagine...
Randy should be home, getting good medical care, instead of being in prison that is only runned by money. All they care about is money. They don't care about others.
But as CANADIANS, that is not our tradition. Out tradiition is to help other, let's help Randy as he needs it.

randy did make a terrible mistake; however by any reasonable estimates, his present sentence far exceeds that demanded by the crime. Let him come home to be the responsiblity of his family and the Canadian authorities.
I can't believe that this boy should get 16years,if that had happened in Canada he would be a free man. Have compassion for this family, and send him home.
16 years is far too stiff a sentence. What would the Canadian Government have given him? I think he has served and suffered enough so he shoud be set free.
As Grandparents of Randy James Sachs we humbly appeal to the Vietnamese Government to transfer Randy to a Canadian prison. We feel the Vietnam Government has enough compassion to honour our appeals immediately so our grandson can get the medical help he deserves.
I wish you and your family the strength and spirit to survive this ordeal. My sister Kay Danes from Foreign Prisoner Support Services www.foreignprisoners.com advised me of your situation. I will email to others. best wishes, Karen Stewart

Randy has committed a crime and must serve a sentence. The conditions he is in are appolling! Please send this young man home to serve the remainder of his sentence in a humane location. If a Veitnamese young man was apprehended for the same crime in this country he would be treated in a humane way. I respectfullg ask for the same for Randy.
RANDY CLEARLY MESSED UP, BUT TO PUT SOMEONE THROUGH THESE CONDITIONS FOR SUCH A MINOR THING IS HORRID, MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH HIS MOTHER AND THE REST OF HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS. I HOPE YOU SOON HAVE HIM HOME WITH YOU OR AT THE VERY LEAST IN A PRISON CLOSE BY YOUR HOME SO YOU CAN SPEND MAXIMUM TIME WITH HIM.. GOOD LUCK RANDY !!
To the government of the great country of Vietnam. Please re-think your position on the imprisonment of this young man in your country. A 16 year sentence for his crime, in my opinion, is cruel and unusal punishment. This is a sentence that cannot be justified in the civilized world. With all due respect, Vietnam wishes to gain ties to the Western World. Vietnam wishes to normalize relations with the West. How can this possibly be accomplished if Vietnam demonstrates brutal punishment to it's offenders
? This boy, Randy James Sachs, made a big mistake in your country. It is true that he should be punished. The great country of Vietnam has every right to enforce it's laws. But the sentence that you have given this boy goes beyond the extreme. He has already served an appropriate sentence for his crime. Why not show compassion for this boy and return him to his native Canada? A 16 year sentence may as well be a death sentence for this boy. A great country and a great people know when to show compassion. This is your opportunity. Show your compassion by returning this boy home to Canada.Show your compassion by returning Randy now.
