Vietnam sucks, but the guy did do more than a "terrible mistake." 1000 ecstacy pills in Vietnam? He doesn't deserve torture, but he should come home to face Canadian justice.
If there is anything I could do to help please let me know. Your sons story in the sun was really touching and I want to help raise money if I could with help to keep him alive and well.
it's sad that there are still governments out there that are willing to do things like this to people. It's not a good idea to be carrying around 1,000 tablets of ecstasy, but to torture and imprison someone for 16 years for that is just preposterous.
This guy needs to pay for his crime but he deserves to come home and be treated with the rights alloted to all Canadians. He is a gentle soul and a life saver. I will pray for him.
Signing this is the least I feel I can do. I will let others know about Mr. Sachs and the situation you and he face. I wish you luck and my prayers are with you all.
Punishments are necessary but under humane conditions-You can't teach someone a lesson by committing a crime yourself- These conditions are a crime- Randy needs to be set free
The conditions of Vietnamese prisons are horrid - he does not deserve that treatment. However, as he did commit the crime, I would feel better knowing that he will finish his punishment within the Canadian justice system.
There is something radically wrong with our Government. They allow a killer, of a police officer and a taxi driver, free after serving just twelve (12)
years and he then commits yet another murder. Here it would appear they show little support for a Canadian, so far away.Perhaps we should pull back some of our Humanitarian support in Vietnam if our Government can't think of anything else to assist in bringing this lad home.
As humans, we make mistakes in life that we sometimes don't understand the consequences that follow, somtimes we do!But no one should ever have their rights as humans taken away from them.Prisoner or not, they have the right to be treated as human beings, not garbage, we as people appeal to the goverment of Vietnam to re-think your harsh decision of Randy, the punishment doe's not fit the crime! regardless of the county he is in! He has made a mistake, but he nor his family should have to pay for it with the loss of his life!
Graeme was scheduled to go to Vietnam in Oct. Thank God this has been cancelled. For no reason, people can also be arrested and imprisioned with no recourse. Good luck. G and S
Everyone deserves a second chance and nobody desrves to be treated like an animal. Bring Randy back to Canada. Until then, Sachs family you are in my prayers.
I read the story in the Toronto Sun and it just sickens me to hear this story. Yes Randy did wrong and should serve some sort of time for punishment BUT everyone deserves the right to be treated like a human being and these countries should be made to treat them humanely.
The issue here is not 'guilt', it is simply that this young person should be entitled to basic human rights & freedoms while imprisoned. Let's hope that Amnesty will be able to intervene. My heart hurts for his family and many others like around the world.
Thanks for the article in the toronto sun. Please keep the public aware.(note to self- cancell vacation adventure in Vietnam)Every government in the free world should warn its citizens about such a horrible country.
Killers and rapists get out in less time, tell vietnam to come and deport there unwanted gang members that are here in Canada. Let Randy Sachs free he has learned his lesson the hard way.
I know all too well what its like to have a person you care about imprisioned in a foreign country for drugs.
May Randy's home coming be soon and happy.
~Its time Canada take a stand for Randy and the many other Canadians who simply made a mistake.
~Randy & family are in my prayers
i only met randy few times and he seemed like nice guy my hopes and wishes are for him come home to canada to his loveing family that loves him so much and i beg the vietam goverment to do more set him free.and to mr paul martin save this young mans life and bring him home please
I think canada should have more prisons like this for prisoners like Paul Bernardo. Randy should not be treated like this, he didn't hurt anyone else and his mistake was foolish. Maybe if we had more prisons like these less disgusting crimes would occur. He should come to Canada and serve his sentence here
I think its terrible what has happened to him. But he was dating a good friend of mine four years ago, I have pictures of them together with my new baby so how has he had a fiance for five....
Please put my name on this petition. Conditions over there stink & UN shud investigate. When their people come over here & get into trouble, then land in jail they are treated in a humane manner & this shud be so when our people fine themselves in trouble in a foreign land.
