The situation described is horrific and I implore the Governments of both countries to do the right thing and return Randy to Canada to serve out his time.
Paying for a crime and being treated inhumanely are not the same thing. Randy could do a lot for the Vietnamese govt and Canadians if he were allowed to return to Canada and speak openly about his mistake.
I read about Randy's predicament in my local newspaper and i was touched. I give my blessing to your family and i pray Randy durvives in these horrible conditions.
My heart goes out to Randy and his family. I have a loved one in prison too so I can understand a little. I am disgusted that Randy must live in such inhumane conditions. I know you will never give up hope. Love and best wishes from Brooke xx
Father God ,Please answer Dee's cry for help, soften the hearts of the Vietnamese government, continue to protect Randy and give him courage and strenghth.Lord please provide medical/dent. care we pray this in your son Jesus Christ's Holy name Amen.
i say that randy should be aloud to return to his canada and at least if they wont let him out of prison to be in a prison that has a good amount of food and water and other needs for a human beeing. i also think that the crime he commited should be a lesser punishment leading to a shorter sentence. and i hope that he is returned . adam deboer with my fingers crossed
I am a big believer in "if you did the crime, you do the time"; however, I also believe that the conditions as described in your letter are beyond even being close to acceptable. I believe that we are too soft here and that they are too hard over there. We need a middle ground.
Anyway, I hope that you achieve your goal of getting your son into better conditions as he serves his time.
Regards.
Randy's punishment certainly doesn't fit the crime. I know of violent domestic abuse crimes that just get a slap on the wrist. This must change. Please listen. Thank you.
I was shocked to hear of the treatment of this man! He admits to his crime, and he does deserve punishment. However, what he described in his letter is not punishment--it is torture! I think he has suffered enough for his crime--it is time to let him out! I understand what it is like to have all my teeth damaged to the point they would break and fall away. I also understand what it is like to not have the means to have anything done for them. I at least had some options to appeal to for help. To have multiple teeth pulled is an extremely painful and bloody experience. As bad as it was for me, I can only imagine, in horror, how it was (and is) for Randy. I doubt there were any painkillers given to him to ease his suffering. The only other thing I would add is my disappointment in the apparent lack of concern from the man he rescued 4 years ago...Most of us would make some kind of effort to help in return for the help we received...I sincerely hope and pray he is let out soon...
I am hopping he is allowed to go back to Canada. I don't feel that he deserves to be punished like that, murderers get a day at the park compared to this, wish you the best of luck Randy!

My name is Debbie, and I am writing in hopes that someone can help this young man come home. He is a Canadian, and a human being, but both are being violated. I myself just turned 28 years old and have a family. I plead with anyone reading this that someone in government do something to bring him home, if even to serve his time in a Canadian prison. I am absolutely horrified at the conditions he is having to endure, and no human being no matter what nationality should have to endure that. PLEASE help him to come back to Canada.
Why do foreign prisoners get treated like they are not human when anybody from other countries come over to Canada and get treated like royalty? We are not doing enough in Canada to thwart this unfairness. It is time to do more. After all it could be you,me, or one of our loved ones in this situation.
It seems like war conditions, but it is difficult for us to judge decisions made by governments in other countries and cultures, at least difficult to judge them fairly. It seems to me that the only way this persons' life is not forfeit is if awareness of this story actually prevents similar crimes in that country. It may be possible, also, to survive the internment. Keep the faith!
i do believe that he should be punished for his crimes, and while Vietnam is inhumane, i doubt the justice system in Canada would be the place to "Learn from his Crimes" because we all know what a joke the prison system here in Canada is...one look at Carla Holmolka is enough...so where should he serve for his crimes? I believe in Vietnam where he did it, but under more humane conditions. I wish his family luck in getting him the help he needs.
This is so upsetting, I read the story in the sun, I almost cried, we have to do something about this, he's only 28, he should be able to go back to Canada, I am contacting Fioreign affairs on this ... hopefully this has a good ending!!!!
This is no where near right, this man should definately be allowed to return to his country. This is a plea to the government to show some compassion as this man is a young Canadian and deserves a second chance at a future. I would have thought the Vietnamese government would treat our citizens as they would want to be treated, this all sounds like something out of a horror film and I pray that Randy is soon set free to lead the life he deserves to live! To all his family please stay strong, you are all in our thoughts and prayers!
It is a crime against humanity to allow the Vietnamese government to inflict their form of punishment on a Canadian. If Canada were to treat a visitor in such a manner the world would strike out. Why then is this it acceptable for the Vietnamese people to be such monsters. This is unacceptable PERIOD! PAUL MARTIN...do something....FOR A CHANGE!
The Vietnamese government is rediculous, a Canadian being sentenced 16 years for possesion is insanity. I feel for the entire family and would be more than willing to help in any way that I can in your time of need. Please tell Randy he is in all of our thoughts and that he should stay strong in order to beat this, hopefully the Canadian government will get involved and try to save one of their own as we all know 1 year in the Vietnamese prison probably feels like 10 therefore he has paid for his mistake!
No words will ever be able to describe what Randy is going through-drug trafficing is a crime, howeverdoes the punishment served by the Vietnam government is simply unacceptable and against basic human rights
I don't agree with what Randy has done, but understanding that people need second chances in life. I really hope this helps and that he will stop trafficing the poison.
I am saddened and outraged at the Vietnamese government. These men are truly monsters. I have taken the liberty to contact the Amnesty International Thailand offices, since there is no office based in Vietnam. I wonder why? My prayers and thoughts are with your family, and most especially Randy and countless others who are being tortured, maimed and robbed of what little human diginity they have left.
God Bless,
DawnMarie
