There has been a hateful desecration of a sacred place at the Pride Centre!! The wall across from the mural in the Pride Centre is a memorial wall. When it was made it was composed of two key pieces: a plaque dedicating the Steve Rowan room and an AIDS memorial. The latter is the one that was torn from its sacred resting place to be stowed away in the corner of a meeting room. Why is it a sacred resting place, you may ask. It was blessed through an Aboriginal ritual dedicated to those fallen to AIDS as well as violent hate crimes, which are all too often a reality for our community.

We demand that the memorial is returned to a sacred resting place. We demand that people know that it is not okay to hatefully vandalize the Pride Centre in the name of YUY. We demand that the perpetrator of this hate crime make a formal apology to YUY and the Pride Centre?
