The average Canadian uses 7.2 hectares of land and water in the course of our daily activities. But compared to the world average which is 2.8 hectares. We use 35% too much and its still growing. If everyone in the world used this much energy we would need 4 Earth's to sustain current life. But we don't really have 4 Earth's so we need to reduce our ecological footprint. Some of the things that affect your ecological footprint is the energy you use, the garbage you throw out, the water in drink, the transportation you use and the foot you eat. Minimizing 2 to 3 of these factors a bit and it can reduce your ecological footprint by a lot.

To find out how big your ecological footprint go to http://www.myfootprint.org/ for a footprint calculator. There is a quiz you do and it will show you your ecological footprint. At the end their is a chart that you write your current ecological footprint and a goal sheet that will calculate how much you can reduce your ecological footprint by.

Some very easy ways to reduce you ecological footprint is to turn off lights when you leave a room, shower less, eat less frozen foods, refuse heavily packeged products and reuse containers.

We need to reduce, reuse, recycle and refuse to save the environment. When you this don't just think of yourself think about younger siblings or cousins that would have to live in a world full of smog and chemicals.
