This reduces down to a radio talk show host expressing an opinion off the clock. If this stands we are all in danger of being muzzled. How many of the folks attending the event complained?
While I am a supporter of Senator Clinton and was not pleased with Randi's comments, I do believe she is entitled to free speach and that the material was just that... stand up material. Please reinstate her and stop giving the right wing fuel for bashing we the liberals.
Don't silence a voice for what was said at a club. If it had been Rush, he'd never had been suspended. We need every vote to end the madness of the past eight years.
The democrats are taking eachother apart. Lets not do this ro rhose like Randy who fight for unity. With all the remarks made by people on the airwaves...she may not have been polite but she is no worse than oythers who have sais worse with no penalty.Come on now...we need every true voice.
I do not support AAR's actions against Randi for her apparently well-received stand-up performance in San Francisco. There is insufficient information available yet to determine whether or not they were within their rights under the terms of her contract, but whatever the reality of that, I believe they are doing AAR more harm than good by making Randi the sacrificial lamb at the demand of Clinton supporters who have already gone way too far in trying to browbeat anyone who criticizes Sen. Clinton. Just because they CAN do so doesn't mean they should. This all smacks of more Clinton supporters, this time Mr. Mark Green, abusing his position, as if that would make his chosen candidate for the Democratic nomination more palatable. Forget it; it does not. (As for Larry Johnson, who I understand is claiming the credit for this suspension and who admits to posting the short clip on YouTube, this goes for you, too, Larry. I didn't support Clinton's bid for the nomination before she started following the Rovian playbook and I do not support her now, even though as an older woman and a feminist you might be tempted to think I would be in her camp. You haven't helped her cause.) AAR seems to have a habit of shooting itself in the foot, and changing ownership didn't solve that problem. That is regrettable. Individuals claiming qualifications to offer good management of a progressive talk network should be smart enough to avoid giving right-wing noise makers unnecessary ammunition. I recently registered at AAR and planned to buy an annual subscription to all podcasts but now I will hold off on that until I see how this plays out. If Randi is persuaded to sign on with another network, I will subscribe to podcasts of her program there, just as I am a founding member of Nova M because I support Mike Malloy's program. Both of them kick ass and take names. We need more like them and fewer of these namby-pamby twits who le
AAR will tank without Randi Rhodes - and that isn't the most important reason you should bring her back. Randi did nothing to warrant suspension, let alone termination. She was doing a stand-up bit at a closed venue to paying customers, one of whom should not have been taping her in the first place, let alone leak the video out to YouTube. Cut the woman some slack! Randi Rhodes has done as much as any one person in contemporary times to raise the awareness of people. She is a true American Heroine... you wouldn't fire Harriet Tubman, would you...?
1. Reinstate Randi Rhodes ASAP on Air America Radio!2. Senior AAR management should publicly apologize by on-air and in writing for yet another boneheaded decision designed to destroy progressive radio.
The Bush crime family has spent the last 7 years eviscerating the Constitution. Now Air America has joined in vacating the 1st Amendment. For shame! Reinstate Randi now.
Come On Air America! Are you seriously trying to go bankrupt this time? This was not a amooth programming move; first it was Mike Maloy, now Randi. WWRL listner from NJjust to note: I'm old enough to remember when Imus was working in clubs in NJ and his routine was
Reinstate Randi or I'll never listen again. Randi was not at an AAR sponsored event, she was at an affiliate sponsored event, there is a difference. Second, Randi is right as rain about Hillary. Hillary trashed Obama in an interview with Richard Mellon Scaife for chrissakes; the Daddy of the VRWC! The man who tried to impeach her husband! If that's not a whore I don't know what is.
AAR needs to reinstate Randi. A private event, not on the air. What is wrong with you people. You want to lose your listener base? Fire Randi. I am not listening until she is back. Fools.
It is unfortunate that Green 960 allowed recording. Randi frequently talks about her shyness at public events. What was said at a for-fee event for 960 should not effect her employment at AAR, which really needs her.Since Sacramento, lost its affiliate 3/31, and the AAR web site messed up the podcast streams, losing Randi is the last blow. BRING RANDI BACK!
This is f*cking ridiculous! The people loved her and she wasn't wrong. A whore is someone who compromises their standards for money. How is that NOT a politician?
REINSTATE RANDI!!! You were SO WRONG to suspend her. You have no idea what you have unleashed by doing this. Her show is the mainstay of Air America Radio.
Intelligent people who understand Randi know what she is about. She challenges us every day to participate in our country. Maybe if Mark Green didn't have his nose so far up hillary's butt this would not happen. Mark do you have a need to fail? If Randi is gone, so is aar
I do not respectfully request this, I'm actually very angry at Rhodes's suspension and your hypocrisy.I think the purpose of this station is to support and provide a vehicle for progressives to exercise a Constitutionally protected right, free speech, where they get in few other places. It is not to control people's mouths when they are employed by corporations. If you do anything less than entirely restore her, you are part of the fascist takeover of this country.
Randi Rhodes has the right to her opinions on the air and off the air. If she hadn't been suspended most of America would never have heard about what she said. Air America's decision to censor her for statements she made OFF the air only drew attention to what was said. Just because she doesn't support Clinton and recognizes that candidate's desperation campaign tactics doesn't mean she should be suspended. And remember, Randi can always pull a Clinton and say she
This was a private event. AAR Management has *no* business suspending Randi for this. I do not condone what Randi said and do find it offensive. However, the show was *not* aired on AAR.This is the same treatment Whoopi Goldberg received at the Democrats' hands during the 2004 election. Have we learned nothing?Bring back Randi and apologize to her and her fans!
I am NOT NOW so respectful toward Air America Radio...this is a Rovian type move, not something you'd expect from one of the only LIBERAL outlets we have in the US of A! This breach of sanity and violation of freedom of speech by AAR is highly suspicious, as management is clearly in Hillary's court, and Randi has come out strongly for Barack Obama. As with David Shuster's suspension from MSNBC, this cowtowing by AAR to the Clinton machine just SUCKS and is UNACCEPTABLE! Randi has more character more intelligence and more guts than any lameass bureaucrat at AAR. Apologize to Randi, give her a raise and start appreciating the treasure she truly IS...get her back on the air ASAP or you're going to lose your audience and OnDemand/Premium members like myself!!!!
Bring Randi back!! Her comments were made at an off the air event, not on Air America Radio. We and AAR cannot afford to lose someone as important to progressive radio as Randi.
This smacks of the heavy handed Clinton machine who also caused an MSNBC reporter to be suspended because they didn't like something he said. Why don't they demand Rush Limbaugh be fired for all the viscious names he's called Hillary for years? If anything Mark Green so favors Hillary over Obama both on his show and on TV that we need an Obama supporter for balance. Randi usually doesn't endorse a Candidate and only did so after such dirty tricks by the Clintons. They certainly do the Karl Rove playbook. And Mark Green' is such a Clintonite that he's not being fair. Randi is the best thing on Air America. She and Thom Hartmann are the most informed savy political people on all of TV and radio. We'll just follow her wherever she goes and it will be Air America's loss.
Cut her some slack. Whatever anyone thinks of her remarks, please realize that she has done an incredible job in promoting progressive causes ... AAR management has chosen to fixate on this one unfortunate incident, ignoring all the good she has done. Shame on them ....
