Heard the title track over the weekend for the first time in years. I'd forgotten how great some of these tracks are. I hunger for L.A., lost city in the smog...
in response to an email dissing the amazing sound of vynil(1487 Simon ). Fuck off original is original, no C.D. could ever recreate or imptrove the sound of Neil.
Would love to see a CD/DVD-A combo (c'mon Neil, you audiophile!). Also, in Shakey, Neil says they could recreate the original Tonight's the Night (Briggs' masterpiece, including between song raps and original running order) using digital. How about starting a petition to do that?
TFA was my favorite of my mom's 25 Neil Young lps and once I started to buy CDs some time agoI was saddened to find TFA wasn't out. Please release Time Fades Away, the best CD by the best rock and roller to ever live

I can't stand it anymore my dad always playing this crappy sounding TFA boot or even a oldfashioned cracky 33 vinyl (what the hell is that, a big black disc, you have to turn around after 20 minutes?)
So please release it finally!
Simon, 13 years old
Comments? I guess the closest comment to my heart is that I can think of only two other recordings that stand so far apart from - literally - everything else, those being "Tonight's the Night" and the 5 cd bootleg collection of Dylan's "The Genuine Basement Tapes", music that expresses feelings that most other artists can't imagine in their deepest dreams, I have a vinyl copy, of course, and when do I get to listen to that? "Time Fades Away" is meant to be listened to alone or with a tight friend. Like in my car. Please do this, I'm 53 and I feel like ten years have fallen on my head in the last one, "don't wait... "cause you know how time fades away."
NEIL YOUNG U ROCK !! BETTER THAN LED ZEPP , UR MY FAVOURITE ANYDAY , HAVE U SEEN WHITE STRIPES DVD , BLACKPOOL ?? AWESOME MAN , BIT LIKE U RAW !! AND REAL OK THANKS 41 YR OLD DUDE FROM CHCH NZ , KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD !!
Reprise Us ...
It's ludicrous that any of Neil's previously recorded work not be available on CD. Many CD's by various artists were only available to us consumers for a brief two to three year window in the 80's and 90's and are once again out of print. Just give us the Window and we'll find our way thru it.
LA was recorded at the Myriad Convention Center in Oklahoma City, soon after it was built. I cannot express fully the meaningfulness of this to me, but I was a 13 year old boy sitting in my home watching network TV unaware at the time that Neil was recording the best song he ever performed. It is painful to only have the LP version of this song when the technology of today demans CD.
Far less important work gets re-released on CD every day. Warner/Reprise should be proud of its early 70's catalog, and make more of it available to a new generation.
Please re-release this essential artefact from the Neil Young history! Such a significant document must surely be deemed worthy of public consumption - much in the same way that On The Beach was lobbied for and then re-released.
an open letter to Neil Young:
Sir,
Having been a 16 year old punk bored with "Harvest",
the passion and the pain that staggered out of "Time
Fades Away" LP was, at first, ...disturbing.
30 years later, it remains one of the few LPs from
the 70's that I still listen to on a regular basis
--there's a painful precision that reminds me of
the worst, and the best of days that used to be.
I guess the album is little more than a document of
a 3-month wake to you, and that, high or low fidelity,
you'd rather leave this thing buried.
How 'bout this: forget about it ...but let Ben Keith
or Tim Mulligan or Joel Bernstein or somebody see what
they can do with whatever tape(s) are available? Maybe
one of them can find/clean up a first generation 2-track
LP master, just put the stupid thing out --you think
anyone's gonna bitch if it isn't dvd-audio? We're out
here plowing through worn-out vinyl --& we'd certainly
prefer tape hiss to all the pops & clicks & skips
--analog isn't better if it's in poor condition!
(alternate ending: As it is, we've been paying $50.00
for crappy-sounding pirate CDs for ten years now --you
think anyone's going to bitch if we can buy the same
thing for $15.99?? Please let us give YOU the money for
this CD instead of supporting those bastard pirates!!)

With Tonight's the Night this is my favorite Neil Young album. I had it on vinyl when it first came out but lost track of it years ago along with my turntable. I had no idea it was unavailable on CD, which would explain why I've been unable to find it anywhere. Why is this music not available, I see no reason for this.
"Yes" that's my real middle name, and "yes" it is after you Neil. So in a way were related, so take your family's advise and release the album. Your Fans want it.
I found this site and gave it another listen. It has at least four great tracks up there with your best, Neil. OTB, AS&B, etc sound great on CD. Please put this one out, too. Thanks.
